Wednesday of the Tenth Week in Ordinary Time
The Roman Martyrology commemorates St. Landericus, or St. Landry (d. 661), who was the Bishop of Paris from 650 to his death. He is best remembered as the founder of the first hospital in Paris, known as Hotel-Dieu.
St. Landericus of Paris or St. Landry
St. Landry was a sincere and dedicated servant of God who had great love for the poor and the lowly. The first hospital in Paris, the Hôtel-Dieu (“Hostel of God”), and the oldest in the world still in operation was founded in 651 by Saint Landry. The saint had the idea and the charity to gather the sick under one roof in order to improve their treatment and reduce the risks of contagion, at a time when epidemics were fairly frequent. The custom then was to house the sick in little hotels dependent on the inconsistent care from charitable persons. In this work of caring for the neediest, which continued over the centuries until the Hôtel-Dieu became the symbol of charity in Paris, he was helped by a community of nuns and some Christian nobles, who served food and medicine to the poor and the sick. In 651 Paris was also afflicted by a famine; Landry, who had become bishop of the city around 650 (succeeding Audobertus), sold all his personal property to feed the poor.
Saint Landry is also credited with having built the Parisian church of Saint-Germain l’Auxerrois, which later became the main parish of the royalty of France. He died around 656 and was buried in this church, where there is a chapel dedicated to him. During the French Revolution, as happened with the bodies of several other saints, the revolutionary fury caused the dispersion of most of his relics.
In the sixties we had one channel in the area I lived. No need for any kind of channel control. By the time that changed in the seventies a remote control would have done you no good because you would have still have to gotten up to turn the antenna with the rotor device. Otherwise you got ghost images and snow for one channel or the other depending which way the antenna was positioned. The good old days LOL

Dad got “gifted” a VHS VCR, it had a wired remote, was about 1976ish, it worked till the late 90’s…. still on a analog TV.
I think they both got zapped by lightning at the same time…. tho the wired remote got superseded by cable box remote….. then directv remote.
I barely remember having 4 stations on antennae 2 national broadcast & 2 of an independent station but from 2 locations one north(Indy) & 1 south (IU university)…. it was the best signal too. It was the one that had Sherlock Holmes / Charlie Chan blocks & Sammy Terry (think Elvira) horror movies @ midnight’s on weekends… by far the most watched for me, even after we got cable (a whole 12 channels max, nothing UHF)

Does not say did not leave a note… so a few assumptions can be made that he may have. (undisclosed reasons)
I have a friend that is/was 911 operator, that is generally the worst call to take for them the “I’m about to commit suicide here @ 123 main street…….. blam”
I assume they wish to not be found by kids/relatives or are alone… IDK… never got that far in the conversation kinda like WW II stories, just not talked about.

Macedonian king and military leader, dies at 32 probably from typhoid fever complicated by excessive wine though poisoning is a possibility, (or the 11th June)
Biography: By the age of thirty, Alexander created one of the largest empires of the ancient world, stretching from the Ionian Sea to the Himalayas. Undefeated in battle during his lifetime he is held up as one of history’s greatest military commanders.
The son of Philip II of Macedon, a northern Greek kingdom that had exerted control over all of Greece, Alexander was tutored by the philosopher Aristotle before succeeding his father after his death at just 20 in 336 BC.
In 334 BC Alexander set off on campaign against the waning but still powerful Persian Empire with 40,000 men. Leading his army personally he defeated Persian forces along the Ionian coast and in Egypt before comprehensively defeating the Persians with a smaller army at the Battle of Gaugamela in 331 BC.
Alexander went on to vanquish Bactria, marrying Roxana, daughter of a Bactrian leader in a mass wedding. In 327 BC he even crossed the Indus River to invade India before turning back.
Alexander’s genius was in conquering territory and his efforts to establish a long-term empire were short-lived. His early and mysterious death, perhaps from fever or poisoning in 323 BC, also led to his empire’s break-up. However his image of a divine all-conquering golden hero would set the template for a leader in the Greco-Roman world ever after.

Back when I dabbled in golf, not sure it could ever be called playing golf, that might have helped. A little. But I doubt anyone could tell the difference.
I was happy to keep my drives out of the next fairway. Or the second fairway over. Yes it happened.
I could spend 4 strokes knocking the ball across the green in chip shots. And then three put when I finally get on the green.
My 9 hole scores looked like a bad 18 hole player’s.
I spent a lot of time letting others who were backing up behind me play through.
But reading about that design analysis reminded me of my dad’s joke about the golf playing gorilla. With a driver at the tee, bam 400 yards. With a putter on the green, bam 400 yds.
Telling that joke must have been part of his fun while playing with me. Not that anything I hit ever went 400 yards.

Wisconsin, Iowa, and Illinois are in for some big time storms today. Storms already firing predawn over Iowa, then the real show comes late afternoon along the cold front: supercells with hail over two inches, a few strong EF2+ tornadoes, and gusts topping 75 mph. SPC has a Level 3 of 5 up.
The tricky part is those morning storms seeding where things redevelop near the Iowa/Illinois line, so it may go multiple rounds into tonight.

COMMENTARY FOR ROMANS 5:17
The happy effects of justification through faith in the righteousness of Christ. (1-5) That we are reconciled by his blood. (6-11) The fall of Adam brought all mankind into sin and death. (12-14) The grace of God, through the righteousness of Christ, has more power to bring salvation, than Adam’s sin had to bring misery, (15-19) as grace did superabound. (20,21)
15-19 Through one man’s offence, all mankind are exposed to eternal condemnation. But the grace and mercy of God, and the free gift of righteousness and salvation, are through Jesus Christ, as man: yet the Lord from heaven has brought the multitude of believers into a more safe and exalted state than that from which they fell in Adam. This free gift did not place them anew in a state of trial, but fixed them in a state of justification, as Adam would have been placed, had he stood. Notwithstanding the differences, there is a striking similarity. As by the offence of one, sin and death prevailed to the condemnation of all men, so by the righteousness of one, grace prevailed to the justification of all related to Christ by faith. Through the grace of God, the gift by grace has abounded to many through Christ; yet multitudes choose to remain under the dominion of sin and death, rather than to apply for the blessings of the reign of grace. But Christ will in nowise cast out any who are willing to come to him.
20,21 By Christ and his righteousness, we have more and greater privileges than we lost by the offence of Adam. The moral law showed that many thoughts, tempers, words, and actions, were sinful, thus transgressions were multiplied. Not making sin to abound the more, but discovering the sinfulness of it, even as the letting in a clearer light into a room, discovers the dust and filth which were there before, but were not seen. The sin of Adam, and the effect of corruption in us, are the abounding of that offence which appeared on the entrance of the law. And the terrors of the law make gospel comforts the more sweet. Thus God the Holy Spirit has, by the blessed apostle, delivered to us a most important truth, full of consolation, suited to our need as sinners. Whatever one may have above another, every man is a sinner against God, stands condemned by the law, and needs pardon. A righteousness that is to justify cannot be made up of a mixture of sin and holiness. There can be no title to an eternal reward without a pure and spotless righteousness: let us look for it, even to the righteousness of Christ.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

Evening Prayer For Forgiveness
Heavenly Father, thank You for bringing me through this day and Lord, forgive me for the times when I have wandered outside Your best will for me, instead of trusting You implicitly.
Thank You, that You are such a gracious Shepherd to me and that You come and rescue me even when I lose my way and stray from the path that You have laid out for me.
As I look back over today, I know Lord that there were things that I should have said and done differently, and times when I reacted in a manner that was not honouring Your holy name. Forgive me I pray, but thank You, Father, that You always faithfully prepared to gently bring me back to Yourself.
Give me a good night’s sleep I pray, knowing that there is no condemnation because I am in Christ, and may I wake up in the morning refreshed and ready to do Your will. In Jesus’ name I pray,

Evening Prayer For Future Guidance
Heavenly Father, as I lie down to sleep tonight, I pray that You would guard my sleeping and protect my mind from wandering thoughts and unnecessary planning. Teach me to wait for Your perfect timing and not to try to plan my future in my own strength.
Lord, I know that You have scheduled every day of my life. Help me to trust You in all things and rely on You to lead me along the straight path and guide me in the direction that You would have me to go.
Give me patience to wait for Your perfect timing, and may I not trust in my own abilities and scheming, but rather rest in Your love and trust my future into Your hands.
