“While they were eating, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, gave it to them, and said, ‘Take it; this is my body.’ Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it. He said to them, ‘This is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many.'”

The Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ is observed on the Thursday following on the Solemnity of the Most Blessed Trinity. Where the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ is not observed as a Holy Day of obligation on Thursday, it is assigned to the Sunday after Trinity Sunday, which is then considered its proper day in the calendar.

This feast is both a doctrinal and cultic response to heretical teaching on the mystery of the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist, and the apogee of an ardent devotional movement concentrated on the Sacrament of the Altar. It was extended to the entire Latin Church by Urban IV in 1264.

Corpus Christi Sunday

Corpus Christi (Body and Blood of Christ) is a Eucharistic solemnity, or better, the solemn commemoration of the institution of that sacrament. It is, moreover, the Church’s official act of homage and gratitude to Christ, who by instituting the Holy Eucharist gave to the Church her greatest treasure. Holy Thursday, assuredly, marks the anniversary of the institution, but the commemoration of the Lord’s passion that very night suppresses the rejoicing proper to the occasion. Today’s observance, therefore, accents the joyous aspect of Holy Thursday.

In the words of St. Thomas:

“How inestimable a dignity, beloved brethren, divine bounty has bestowed upon us Christians from the treasury of its infinite goodness! For there neither is nor ever has been a people to whom the gods were so nigh as our Lord and God is nigh unto us.

“Desirous that we be made partakers of His divinity, the only-begotten Son of God has taken to Himself our nature so that having become man, He would be enabled to make men gods. Whatever He assumed of our nature He wrought unto our salvation. For on the altar of the Cross He immolated to the Father His own Body as victim for our reconciliation and shed His blood both for our ransom and for our regeneration. Moreover, in order that a remembrance of so great benefits may always be with us, He has left us His Body as food and His Blood as drink under appearances of bread and wine.

“O banquet most precious! O banquet most admirable! O banquet overflowing with every spiritual delicacy! Can anything be more excellent than this repast, in which not the flesh of goats and heifers, as of old, but Christ the true God is given us for nourishment? What more wondrous than this holy sacrament! In it bread and wine are changed substantially, and under the appearance of a little bread and wine is had Christ Jesus, God and perfect Man. In this sacrament sins are purged away, virtues are increased, the soul is satiated with an abundance of every spiritual gift. No other sacrament is so beneficial. Since it was instituted unto the salvation of all, it is offered by Holy Church for the living and for the dead, that all may share in its treasures.

“My dearly beloved, is it not beyond human power to express the ineffable delicacy of this sacrament in which spiritual sweetness is tasted in its very source, in which is brought to mind the remembrance of that all-excelling charity which Christ showed in His sacred passion? Surely it was to impress more profoundly upon the hearts of the faithful the immensity of this charity that our loving Savior instituted this sacrament at the last supper when, having celebrated the Pasch with His disciples, He was about to leave the world and return to the Father. It was to serve as an unending remembrance of His passion, as the fulfillment of ancient types — this the greatest of His miracles. To those who sorrow over His departure He has given a unique solace.”

Alan Turing
(1912-1954)

British mathematician and computer scientist pioneer (Turing Machine), commits suicide at 41 (b. 1912)

Biography: Turing was a highly influential computer scientist and cryptanalyst who developed the Turing machine, one of the most important theoretical models of a computer. In this regard he is considered to be the father of artificial intelligence and of computer science.

During World War II Turing worked at the UK’s code-breaking headquarters at Bletchley Park. Here he played a pivotal role in breaking coded German messages through the Enigma machine, many of which helped the Allies win several crucial battles. One estimate puts the number of lives saved by Turing’s work at as many as 14 million.

Turing was never fully recognized during his lifetime due to his homosexuality, which was then a crime in the UK. He was prosecuted in 1952 and underwent forced castration as a punishment. He died in 1954 of cyanide poisoning, at the time ruled as suicide but possibly accidental. In 2009 the British government formally apologized to Turing, and Queen Elizabeth II granted him a pardon in 2013. The Alan Turing law is named after him, which granted pardons to men convicted of homosexuality when it was a crime.

Longer range forecasts: Gonna be a scorcher!

After this current period of heat in the Eastern US it is going to cool off again relative to averages until about the middle of July. Then the blow torch really comes. It’s going to be a dry and very hot summer for the central and Eastern US. Joe Bastardi is talking 1930’s kind of heat for the central and eastern US!

Pretty much the same for western Europe also. Once their current cool weather abates it is likely to be their hottest summer since 1983! So get ready for the Climate change scammers to be broadcasting their messages of climate doom.

Never mind that Alaska has had the coldest winter and spring in about 100 years and temperatures in the Arctic are well below normal for this time of year and are likely to continue to be so. That is just weather. The climate will be where the heat is.

Some chance of tropical storm development in the Gulf this week and the European model and several others show the possibility of a TS marching east across N. Florida and then moving right up the east coast. Not saying it is going to happen, but am saying it is something that bears watching this week.

After this week the bottom drops out of the potential for TS development as strengthening El Nino conditions move in from the west and if this El Nino is a strong as many are predicting our hurricane season is going to be a very weak one. But in the Western Pacific the TS season has had a fast start and a very active typhoon season and highly likely. That is where the climate will be as far as tropical storms go.

COMMENTARY FOR PROVERBS 16

1 The renewing grace of God alone prepares the heart for every good work. This teaches us that we are not sufficient of ourselves to think or speak any thing wise and good. #2|. Ignorance, pride, and self-flattery render us partial judges respecting our own conduct. #3|. Roll the burden of thy care upon God, and leave it with him, by faith and dependence on him. 4|. God makes use of the wicked to execute righteous vengeance on each other; and he will be glorified by their destruction at last. #5|. Though sinners strengthen themselves and one another, they shall not escape God’s judgments. #6|. WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD

Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.

I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.

Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.

With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me. 

Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.

4th century writers tell us that Christians received a warning and escaped Jerusalem to Pella, before Rome destroyed Jerusalem. What did they take with them? Very little could have survived the destruction in Jerusalem.

When I read the gospels, I find mention of many things we esteem as relics today. The cross, the cup used in the last supper, the burial cloth and face cloth. But they are incidental. And there are no descriptions treating them as relics in Acts or the Epistles.

Jews had their own relics which they kept in the temple, but the 10 commandments rule out making or worshipping images. How would the first Christians, who were faithful Jews, relate to relics?

Halfway through the second century there are writings of martyr’s bones being treated as relics. But nothing about these incidentals. Though sometimes things are mentioned in non-biblical Gospels. Like Jesus’ foreskin. Very creepy.

The first mention we have about the True Cross was around 350 AD by Cyril, the then Bishop of Jerusalem. Supposedly fragments had been spread across the land.

Later people write about Helena’s trip 326-328 AD where she found the True Cross in Jerusalem. She found three, and declared the one that healed somebody to be the True Cross. Or at least that is the story the later chroniclers tell us.

But if it was still in Jerusalem and survived, then obviously nobody took it to Pella.

In 337, Constantine died, and Eusebius wrote a biography that included her trip, but did not mention the cross. Found around 327, ignored in 337, spread around the world by 350. Hard to reconcile those.

There is a mention in 570 of an onyx cup reputedly used in the last supper. But the Grail is a French invention which started as a serving platter around 1180, and within a decade or two became the chalice.

The Shroud is first mentioned in 1354. Some claim that was a different shroud since a bishop in 1389 declared it as false as witnessed by the painter. Nobody finds any paint on the one in Turin. The carbon dating puts it in that time frame, 1325+-65. But there are strong efforts to disprove that carbon dating and strong efforts to prove it came from Christ’s time. There are also efforts to create earlier histories of the Shroud.

I don’t know. The Shroud image looks too Germanic to me. And starts in a land named after one such tribe, the Franks. And it is different lengths front and back. And the Franks sure romanticized the cup. Doesn’t mean I am right.

Yet Franks had nothing to do with the finding of the true cross. I think they were still barbarians in Germany at the time. They had already began attacking Gaul, but conquest wasn’t final until 486.

I would be more comfortable with these relics if they were treated as such in scripture. But as I review these timelines, they seem to be later additions and of dubious origin.

But the Pella story at least makes it possible that sacred cloth or cups could have been saved. Too bad nobody carried the true cross to Pella. Would have been a neat story.

I found him on a rainy morning, abandoned near a gas station by the highway. He was soaked, shivering, and meowing desperately, as if calling for help. I parked my truck and approached slowly, not wanting to scare him. When he saw me, he didn’t run away. On the contrary, he looked at me with eyes full of distress and hope. In that moment, I knew I couldn’t leave him there.

I picked him up in my arms and settled him on the passenger seat, wrapping him in a blanket I kept in the cab. During the drive, he stopped meowing and started dozing off, as if he understood he was finally safe. I decided to call him “Captain,” a fitting name, since he seemed ready to lead every new adventure.

Since that day, Captain has become my faithful road companion. Every morning, he climbs onto the dashboard, his favorite spot, where he watches the world go by. Sometimes, he clings to the steering wheel with his little paws, pretending to drive. It always makes me laugh, and the people who pass by us can’t help but smile or take photos.

But Captain is more than just a funny cat. He has become an essential part of my life on the road. Thanks to him, my lonely days are now filled with laughter, surprises, and comfort. He has taught me that even the most unexpected encounters can deeply change our lives. And every day, he reminds me that sometimes, the simplest acts of kindness—like helping a creature in need—can have the greatest impact.

Lord of Comfort, as I face the trials of illness, I pray for Your healing touch. Ease my discomfort, calm my anxiety, and deliver me from my afflictions. In Your mercy, may I find the comfort that leads to a peaceful rest, knowing that You are with me, sustaining and healing me. Amen.

Our Heavenly Father, thank You, for Your Love and the gift of Life. Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and his family as they seek to lead America back to You. Also, we pray for Angels to protect and support our Sundance as he works for justice and peace. 

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
