Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent appeared before the Senate today to discuss the Treasury budget appropriation and respond to questions.
Senate Intelligence Committee Vice-Chairman Mark Warner could not contain himself and used his time on camera to question Secretary Bessent about something far away from Bessent’s sphere of influence. Warner began physically shaking and grasping for words to describe his outrage, his apoplexy and fury at the audacity of President Trump to appoint Bill Pulte as Acting Director of National Intelligence.

You know that scene in “The Guns of Navarone” where Gregory Peck leads a group of guys to disable the Nazi gun emplacement so that the Allied ships can traverse the area where they WOULD have been under attack but first they have to climb up this very steep wall (after they have just lost their ship in a battering storm that has reduced the ship to smithereens).
I feel like some of these passages in the Trump Saga are like that – they have already gotten through a hair-raising sea voyage with their ship battered on the rocks . . . next, after assessing what they still have to work with of the explosives to be rigged by David Niven, they now turn their attention to scaling that wall . . . but they do it . . . and so then you watch the rest of it and then you watch it all over again sometime as if for the first time.
I grew up between two brothers and assorted cousins and uncles and so absorbed this fare as part of my growing up – I did prefer “The Guns of Navarone” to “The Birds” where my older brother tossed a throw pillow at the back of my head at a crucial point.

Pulte can remain as Acting Director for 210 days(from July 1) or until January 27, 2027. Tombalina will be out office by then, so his support doesn’t matter. Good riddance!
