III. Primaries proceed as proposed
Secretary of State Wes Allen (R-AL) said that the 5/19/26 primary election (run off on 6/16/26 for races where no candidate receives more than 50%) will proceed as planned following SCOTUS 6-3 ruling (Sotomayor, Kagan, Jackson dissenting). Case was remanded to N.D.Ala. for further consideration in light of Louisiana v. Callais.

After its Callais opinion, SCOTUS is likely to stay out of re-districting litigation, and leave it to the state legislatures. And SCOTUS will likely keep the lower federal courts out of these cases, too.
Expect a lot of rulings like yesterday’s in the Alabama case (by a 6-3 vote no doubt).
