The child was thrilled and taunted her sisters with her good fortune.

No drapes in my house anymore! Only takes a day or two till they look like spaghetti!
Most of our windows have no treatment at all – if you’re stupid enough to be outside my windows, better be wearing a bullet-proof vest!
But…..in the guestroom, people are a bit more squeamish, so we have blinds. I just would remind everyone to please coil up the pulls and attach to your window frame.
They can and have strangled children and pets. 😢
Just in case I’m not as vigilant at the windows as necessary!
My blinds have the rod you turn to open and close them, and you can push from the bottom to put them up to open the window to the sunlight.
The blinds are only on the bedroom windows. Short curtains on the top portion of the office windows to eliminate the sun, so I can see my computer screen without all the reflections and so the cats can sit and lay on my desk to watch the birds at the feeders.
All other windows are uncovered so I can enjoy the woods in the back from the living room and a large window to watch Blue in his pasture and the pond from the kitchen. Sun comes in and warms the kitchen in winter and then a big oak tree gets its leaves and keeps the sun out of the kitchen in the hot summer.

We trapped our kitties, Pearl and Rosebud, in the garden department of Home Depot. But first we lured them in with a blue OR basin filled with kibble – just like this one. And watched them climb in and wallow in it: a beautiful sight.

I’m finding so many of these bring a memory or two to the fore. With yours I don’t have to imagine. We’ve rescued hungry kitties or cats. And we’ve fed to this day those who haven’t figured out how lovely their lives could be and cannot get over the trust factor. You’re so right. It IS a beautiful sight.

What time do you feed your beautiful burros?
We usually feed burros about 7:00am (they’re hollerin!) and again at around 5:00pm. We have to go back an hour later and let Olive out of the barn where she eats separately, because Wheezy is a bit of a piglet and also because their diets are somewhat different for health reasons. So, it’s pretty time consuming and requires adjustments if we have appointments and such. Also, winter and it’s later sunrise, and earlier dusk shortens the time span a bit. Fortunately, they are without a doubt worth it!
Been there and currently several times a week, dealing with not feed me but playing with my feet or a stuffed mouse on top of me! I try to ignore it and eventually they will settle down!

Betsy, I did look at the Cursday images, but needed to get off the computer for awhile. Just take a break from all the craziness of the current politics, and get other chores done that I have put off.
Also, Final Exams are coming up to grade soon, and this will require my full attention. The Professor is retiring after this semester. This will be my last semester as well for grading.
Just in time to get my yard and planters cleaned up for this growing season, although it was chilly (40s) this AM and forecast is calling for chilly (40s) on Tuesday night as well.
I am waiting for a shipment of seeds from Burpee to plant, cucumbers, squash, cantaloupe and mini watermelon to try. Been using Burpee since my dad planted gardens. My dad and I have always been successful with Burpee seeds. They are all Non-Gmo and produce abundant vegetables and fruit. I especially like the ones that can be planted as container friendly. They do as good as their regular seeds. I do not have a tractor any longer to till up a nice patch of ground for a large garden like I had at the ranch, so my old water troughs were converted to container gardens, along with planters on legs. the cantaloupe and watermelon grow in large containers and I have cattle panels attached to T-posts, for them to grow up, similar to a trellis, and they do fine on those. When the melons start to get big, I just make slings out of old hose for them to lay in. Been doing that for years. The melons that do manage to end up growing on the ground get inverted tin pie plates to sit on. This keeps the bugs off of them and they ripen faster from the sun reflection. I am looking forward to getting outside to garden. It is great therapy and gives me a good dose of Vit. D!

Busy, busy, Pat. Off the computer to protect your peace and sanity? Oh my goodness…I certainly hear you and in fact thought about doing so as well. The madness and white hot rage. Inexplicable to me because it is sudden, all at once, ubiquitous, and mindless. I can understand.
What a marvelous garden you’ve planned! And what strange temperatures we’ve had, although for however long we do not have the scorching heat I count as a supreme blessing as I know you do. I’ve been reading about seed companies and what they are doing… not good, even sinister. So I am glad Burpee has managed to stay true to their origins.
We were talking this morning about the difference between foods here and in Britain/Europe. Oh how we miss the taste of pure foodsnwith their natural, I tampered withingredoents (so far at least). Americans who have never travelled there can’t imagine. I see fertilizers are exploding in price because of the war; so assuming you use them, be aware. Otherwise it seems you are an accomplished grower.
I just looked…it sems that our temperate weather will be with us for at least another week and so ideal for working with your planting. Don’t wear yourself out, girl. And may God bless your efforts and give you abundance 🙏🏻😘
Betsy, I do not use commercial fertilizer. I have a compost pile and of course, I have ready made fertilizer from my horse and my chickens. Nothing beats this fertilizer available to me free. Just a little work to get it. I do let it get old before I use it though as it will burn the plants when it is fresh.
I try very hard to keep my gardens as organic as possible, using all natural pest removal and I also do companion planting and this eliminates some pests as there are plants they do not like, such as marigolds and some strong scented herbs. I also try to put in plants that will attract the good bugs that are also predators to the damaging bugs. Also feeding the birds all year keeps them in the yard and they eat a lot of insects.
I understand about the taste of pure foods like we got when in Europe and Britain. It is missed.
I’d momentarily forgotten you have a ready source, sis. My sister in law was the same. Agreed.
People mock British cooking. But I can attest to that there is nothing more flavorful than their “roast dinners”. Nothing!! Missed? Ditto!

For friends dear Pat and/or dear Bet . . . My yard has passed through its prairie phase to a desert phase—there is no grass in the front yard at all now. Can you recommend grass seed that will take root and grow in this barren space?
Garrison, I can not recommend a grass seed as I don’t have much in the way of a lawn inside my fence because of the live oak growing and the roots causing mud mostly and some dandelions. I did throw some short, white clover seed out there and it has taken finally, (put clover in so I do not have to mow), and the native honey bees love it and attracts them to my other plants so pollination occurs. Hope this helps.

Your local garden centre or maybe Tractor Supply (if they sell it) can advise what kind plus appropriate fertilizer when the time comes. As well as how to plant. Pretty sure there is seed for our Texas conditions.
Our neighbours had theirs sprayed in. A hideous shade of green which disappeared as grass quickly grew.

Betsy, Gus was a born and bred cat hater. We moved into a lovely little house on five acres.
Alive with rats. Need a cat, I say. He said his Lab, Neesus, would never tolerate a cat.
I brought 2 barn kittens. Chelsea, a black tuxedo and her brother, Tango, a brown tabby.
Explained to Neesus these kittens were hers to protect. No problem.
Gus was the problem. So, Chelsea, seeing the problem, set out to win Gus over.
She emulated the dogs, even going so far as to debase herself by rolling on his feet!
Suffice to say Chelsea had Gus playing with cat toys in about 3 days.
Rats were routed.
Gus ain’t really been right since.

There are small catnip toys. I know because once upon a time I bought a few thinking our cats would enjoy them. Which they did for about 5 seconds. That was a long time ago, and so I’m sure they’ve been, shall I call them, updated. The ones I bought were in the shape of mice for added appeal 😊
I did buy some of those and also catnip toys that look like tea bags. They do play with those, but they really like the loose catnip and they will eat it and roll all over it. I guess I will just clean up after they get their “Fixes!” LOL

Catnip is super easy to grow. It is in the mint family and spreads like crazy. It also is a natural deterrent to cockroaches and termites – but I digress!
Anyhoo, I give my kitties fresh catnip – much much easier to clean up, and makes them smell nice too.

Mrs. Feeling, yes that is one of the advantages of getting older. We can talk to our pets and no one looks at us strangely. I even say good morning to my hens and rooster when I let them out in the morning and say good night to them when I close their coop door in the evening. During the day I will talk to them if they are up by my fence. When I have treats for them, all I have to do is say “Girls come here, I have treats for you” and they come running. Love to watch them run! Small pleasures of my quiet, retired life.
It does feel so good to start the day off with laughing. I thank God all during the day for the graces he has bestowed upon me and finding the CTH and all of you that comment. It definitely makes my day to come here and enjoy the company of, what I consider, my family.

And, how funny, on my walk this morning was a wild duck, who was talking to me… will be hard for many to believe…but my hubby and I raised orphan ducks and it brought us amazing joy.

In Home Depot buying a couple of plants and could hear frantic peeping…watched a duckling scooting under the displays. There were more.
Saw a woman with a bucket attempting to catch them. Mother killed in the parking lot, and her brood ran for shelter. I don’t know how many there ultimately were, but she said they’d caught five to that point. Broke my heart into pieces…💔
Not at all hard to believe. When we were younger, my dad was home on leave and took us to a place where Canadian geese raised their young.
There was one mother goose that was rejecting one of her little goslings. I started crying and dad looked around and grabbed it and put it into his blue Navy jumper shirt. We took it home and raised it. It’s name was the Admiral and it strutted around like it owned the street. It followed the neighborhood kids and us wherever we went and walked us to school and then met us when school ended. One day in late Fall it disappeared and our neighbor said it went into the woods adjacent from our house because the Canadian geese had landed there on their way south and it heard them and decided to go with them. We sure missed it, as it made us laugh all the time.
My dad was a softie when it came to his daughters and animals.

I had a pr of Muscovies when I was a young bride. Taught them to swim in the kitchen sink so they wouldn’t get water-logged and drown.

Mornin’ dear Bet. I have some house work to to do. We the heaviest rain storm in memory last night . . . hours and hours of steady heavy rain. All of my small leaks became sizable leaks.
Fortunately, I handled those with my supply of buckets (large and small) and a good supply of pee-pads. Together, all this saved my hallway wooden floor.
Before it gets too hot, I’m going to do some judicious seam sealing since I know exactly were the leaks are most likely coming from. I put a new mod-bit roof down by myself about 5 years ago. Alas, a common problem with old houses is movement. The pier-and-beam construction of my 100 years dwelling translate into time-to-time mandatory roof repairs. Fortunately I know what to do to buy me a few more years before house movement causes more trouble.
I was up most of the night chasing leaks—used copious amounts of pee-pads but saved my vintage wood floors. Little ‘Tink was completely disinterested in all this drama. She stayed tuck comfortably away in her favorite spot behind the kitchen stove. Smart kitty . . . 🙂 Be well Bet love and have a blessed day. 🙂

Through long experience I’ve long ago learned to avoid those kinds of experiences—either on top or underneath something potentially dangerous. Again, thank your for your concern. 🙂
I am sure you are very careful. This is one of the pitfalls of being a “Mom and Grand mom.” Alas, I can not help it, since becoming a “senior” myself and I now worry about everyone in my circle of friends, when they have to do things that can be hazardous as we age. Hugs and love to you Garrison.

We finally got much needed rain last night. But…..an all night power outage came with. It’s not really that big a deal except that our well goes out too. Must use bottled water for animals and cooking (on a butane stove or the grill). But, without water toilets don’t flush! Yikes! Trucking buckets of water in from the doggos swimming trough is a pain in the you know what!
Living in the boonies is mostly great, but comes with some caveats. 😁

Good morning Soaz. Yes, having a well does present some challenges during power outages. We found out the hard way at the ranch and installed a small generator to run the well.
The original well was not a very good one (the former owners went cheap) when they dug it. It was not very deep and we ran out of water and had to have a new well dug. That was a dicey situation for a couple of weeks. My hand hauled water from his home to my ranch every day to water the barn horses and foals. The other horses had ponds in their pastures.
We kept large bottles of water for the toilets and cooking and laundry was done at a laundromat! We managed to get through it with lots of prayers, lots of laughs and a greater appreciation of the privilege of having sufficient luxuries as water on a continuous basis.
Give Louisa and Olive a hug for me. Have an uneventful, wonderful and most blessed weekend.
I bet your ranch was lovely, Pat. What I wouldn’t do for a pond or stream on ours. Have to settle for a wash that runs once or twice a year.

Great analysis, Garrison. The ‘proof’ of what you are saying is found in the fact that the Somali fraud against welfare and childcare did not just happen in Minnesota.. it occurred where ever there was a Somali enclave. It is a means of survival in their homeland and a part of their culture which they brought with them when they were brought here several decades ago. Because the United States didn’t ask them to assimilate, but rather put them in groups in various communities, we encouraged and enabled them to resist assimilating. Living in groups of Solmalians, they were able to maintain their language, customs and culture.
Much of what has happened is a result of deliberate decisions from within our successive liberal/progressive/socialist governments. That our own politicians and bureaucrats did this is shameful. How could they have been so stunningly ignorant. And they call this “The Great Reset”.

Today the Church celebrates the Memorial of St. Athanasius (295-373), Bishop of Alexandria and a great defender of the orthodox faith, throughout his life opposed the Arian heresy. By denying the Godhead of the Word the Arians turned Christ into a mere man, only higher in grace than others in the eyes of God. St. Athanasius took part in the Council of Nicea in 325 and until the end remained a champion of the faith as it was defined by the Council. In him the Church venerates one of her great Doctors. He was subjected to persecutions for upholding the true teaching concerning the person of Christ and was sent into exile from his see no less than five times. He died at Alexandria in 373 after an episcopate of forty-six years.
The Roman Martyrology commemorates St. Antoninus (1389-1459), Bishop of Florence, and a member of the Dominican Order. In the exercise of his pastoral charge he showed great charity. He died in 1459.

COMMENTARY FOR JOHN 3:16
Christ’s discourse with Nicodemus. (1-21) The baptism of John of Christ John’s testimony. (22-36)1-8 Nicodemus was afraid, or ashamed to be seen with Christ, therefore came in the night. When religion is out of fashion, there are many Nicodemites. But though he came by night, Jesus bid him welcome, and hereby taught us to encourage good beginnings, although weak. And though now he came by night, yet afterward he owned Christ publicly. He did not talk with Christ about state affairs, though he was a ruler, but about the concerns of his own soul and its salvation, and went at once to them. Our Saviour spoke of the necessity and nature of regeneration or the new birth, and at once directed Nicodemus to the source of holiness of the heart. Birth is the beginning of life; to be born again, is to begin to live anew, as those who have lived much amiss, or to little purpose. We must have a new nature, new principles, new affections, new aims. By our first birth we were corrupt, shapen in sin; therefore we must be made new creatures. No stronger expression could have been chosen to signify a great and most remarkable change of state and character. We must be entirely different from what we were before, as that which begins to be at any time, is not, and cannot be the same with that which was before. This new birth is from heaven, ch. #1:13|, and its tendency is to heaven. It is a great change made in the heart of a sinner, by the power of the Holy Spirit. It means that something is done in us, and for us, which we cannot do for ourselves. Something is wrong, whereby such a life begins as shall last for ever. We cannot otherwise expect any benefit by Christ; it is necessary to our happiness here and hereafter. What Christ speak, Nicodemus misunderstood, as if there had been no other way of regenerating and new-moulding an immortal soul, than by new-framing the body. But he acknowledged his ignorance, which shows a desire to be better informed. It is then further explained by the Lord Jesus. He shows the Author of this blessed change. It is not wrought by any wisdom or power of our own, but by the power of the blessed Spirit. We are shapen in iniquity, which makes it necessary that our nature be changed. We are not to marvel at this; for, when we consider the holiness of God, the depravity of our nature, and the happiness set before us, we shall not think it strange that so much stress is laid upon this. The regenerating work of the Holy Spirit is compared to water. It is also probable that Christ had reference to the ordinance of baptism. Not that all those, and those only, that are baptized, are saved; but without that new birth which is wrought by the Spirit, and signified by baptism, none shall be subjects of the kingdom of heaven. The same word signifies both the wind and the Spirit. The wind bloweth where it listeth for us; God directs it. The Spirit sends his influences where, and when, on whom, and in what measure and degree, he pleases. Though the causes are hidden, the effects are plain, when the soul is brought to mourn for sin, and to breathe after Christ. Christ’s stating of the doctrine and the necessity of regeneration, it should seem, made it not clearer to Nicodemus. Thus the things of the Spirit of God are foolishness to the natural man. Many think that cannot be proved, which they cannot believe. Christ’s discourse of gospel truths, ver. #11-13|, shows the folly of those who make these things strange unto them; and it recommends us to search them out. Jesus Christ is every way able to reveal the will of God to us; for he came down from heaven, and yet is in heaven. We have here a notice of Christ’s two distinct natures in one person, so that while he is the Son of man, yet he is in heaven. God is the “HE THAT IS,” and heaven is the dwelling-place of his holiness. The knowledge of this must be from above, and can be received by faith alone. Jesus Christ came to save us by healing us, as the children of Israel, stung with fiery serpents, were cured and lived by looking up to the brazen serpent, #Nu 21:6-9|In this observe the deadly and destructive nature of sin. Ask awakened consciences, ask damned sinners, they will tell you, that how charming soever the allurements of sin may be, at the last it bites like a serpent. See the powerful remedy against this fatal malady. Christ is plainly set forth to us in the gospel. He whom we offended is our Peace, and the way of applying for a cure is by believing. If any so far slight either their disease by sin, or the method of cure by Christ, as not to receive Christ upon his own terms, their ruin is upon their own heads. He has said, Look and be saved, look and live; lift up the eyes of your faith to Christ crucified. And until we have grace to do this, we shall not be cured, but still are wounded with the stings of Satan, and in a dying state. Jesus Christ came to save us by pardoning us, that we might not die by the sentence of the law. Here is gospel, good news indeed. Here is God’s love in giving his Son for the world. God so loved the world; so really, so richly. Behold and wonder, that the great God should love such a worthless world! Here, also, is the great gospel duty, to believe in Jesus Christ. God having given him to be our Prophet, Priest, and King, we must give up ourselves to be ruled, and taught, and saved by him. And here is the great gospel benefit, that whoever believes in Christ, shall not perish, but shall have everlasting life. God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, and so saving it. It could not be saved, but through him; there is no salvation in any other. From all this is shown the happiness of true believers; he that believeth in Christ is not condemned. Though he has been a great sinner, yet he is not dealt with according to what his sins deserve. How great is the sin of unbelievers! God sent One to save us, that was dearest to himself; and shall he not be dearest to us? How great is the misery of unbelievers! they are condemned already; which speaks a certain condemnation; a present condemnation. The wrath of God now fastens upon them; and their own hearts condemn them. There is also a condemnation grounded on their former guilt; they are open to the law for all their sins; because they are not by faith interested in the gospel pardon. Unbelief is a sin against the remedy. It springs from the enmity of the heart of man to God, from love of sin in some form. Read also the doom of those that would not know Christ. Sinful works are works of darkness. The wicked world keep as far from this light as they can, lest their deeds should be reproved. Christ is hated, because sin is loved. If they had not hated saving knowledge, they would not sit down contentedly in condemning ignorance. On the other hand, renewed hearts bid this light welcome. A good man acts truly and sincerely in all he does. He desires to know what the will of God is, and to do it, though against his own worldly interest. A change in his whole character and conduct has taken place. The love of God is shed abroad in his heart by the Holy Ghost, and is become the commanding principle of his actions. So long as he continues under a load of unforgiven guilt, there can be little else than slavish fear of God; but when his doubts are done away, when he sees the righteous ground whereon this forgiveness is built, he rests on it as his own, and is united to God by unfeigned love. Our works are good when the will of God is the rule of them, and the glory of God the end of them; when they are done in his strength, and for his sake; to him, and not to men. Regeneration, or the new birth, is a subject to which the world is very averse; it is, however, the grand concern, in comparison with which every thing else is but trifling. What does it signify though we have food to eat in plenty, and variety of raiment to put on, if we are not born again? if after a few mornings and evenings spent in unthinking mirth, carnal pleasure, and riot, we die in our sins, and lie down in sorrow? What does it signify though we are well able to act our parts in life, in every other respect, if at last we hear from the Supreme Judge, “Depart from me, I know you not, ye workers of iniquity?”

WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

For the pas5t few days I’ve been dealing with an intermittent cough and a sore throat. I just made a tea with Douglas Fir needles and cinnamon. It doesn’t taste too bad, I’ll see if this home remedy actually works.

Do these easy basic little fortification & detoxification maintenance processes regularly – and eat a densely-nutritious diet – and your body’s default setting of ‘sweat, purge, & fast’ (“housecleaning”; getting “sick”) never comes on unannounced.
This explains the mechanism of ‘infection’ & fever, etc. really well… understanding & working with natural physiologic processes to both re-balance AND facilitate & maintain robust health is what the term “self-care” actually means; far FAR superior to ‘healthcare’.

NAC works wonders for coughs of any kind and you should be able to get it at your local drugstore.
A few drops of 2% Lugol’s Iodine mixed with half a shot glass of distilled water also works wonders to keep colds away and fight them.
Mix the Lugol’s in the distilled water and using a q-tip tilt your head back and put drops of the mixture into each nostril until you can feel it in your nasal cavity. Gargle with the rest then spit it out.
If you do that with Lugol’s every time you come home after being out in the world you will be less likely to get sick.
OH, one more thing.
Sunlight! While you are sick spend at least 20 minutes in the sun each day. I don’t have the link right now, but sunlight has cured lung infections where modern medicine could not.
