I worked for a guy who raised canaries. Canaries come in every color from white to black. Except blue.
Very interesting job. He showed his birds all over the world. He had a business which supported this hobby.
Anyway, he had other birds, including a young pair of Hyacinth Macaws which he hoped to breed. They were tremendously expensive then and still are.
I left before they were old enough to breed but this is where I got my first snake. A yearling cornsnake fell from the rafters of the ‘snake proof’ birdhouse onto the head of my nasty co-worker which sent her screaming for help!
I grabbed up the stunned (and hungry) baby and brought him home.
I fed him un-fertilized canary eggs and kept him until he was strong enough to be released on my property.

They really are beautifully camouflaged in the desert – however my dogs do chase them, and fortunately lose the race.

Looks like a male Downy woodpecker. I have two pair of Red Headed woodpeckers, two pair of Red Breasted woodpeckers, two pair of Hairy woodpeckers, A pair of Downy woodpeckers that frequent my feeders, All but the Downys hit the peanuts hard when I put them out. I also have a young Pileated woodpecker that stops by sometimes.

The pileateds sound like Tarzan movie jungle birds.
Sadly, we rarely see the redheads anymore.
