It comes from the Greek concept of pushing a rock up a mountain just to have it roll back down. The work on the tunnels may seem endless and requires enduring hard work.

I went on a short tour of a college one evening in Virginia and there was a young man in one room who knew several languages. He was studying Hebrew and the professor asked him to speak a few words for us. It was a beautiful language. I understand Israel resurrected that ancient language? Perhaps someday I will understand it and the Lord will speak it with me? I was in a Pentecostal church one evening and a gentleman was praying in tongues. I always sat outside on our concrete uncovered porch in a lawn chair with a old army blanket & watched storms come in.
Was a little too young to have a cocktail, perhaps a Dr Pepper tho.
We had plenty of tall trees around the neighborhood for lightning rods, tho they were all topped by the tornado that missed mom’s house by 50 ft N & W.
The Tulip tree got zapped & the Sugar Maple (separate storms) long after I left….. those were the good looking trees too … the Silver Maple was like a huge ugly bush (too close to the house) that dropped dead limbs profusely… mom hated it & cut it down, planted an apple tree where “my” Sugar Maple was.
My Mother loved wild weather. Especially storms on the water. We would jump.in the car and drive to the Bay or Gulf to watch.
A tornado struck her house when she was a toddler. My Pappy grabbed her out of bed just as the chimmny crashed thru the roof onto the bed. He put her and Mama under a heavy oak table he had built and held it down. He lost two fingers to flying debris but never let go of that table.
We had that table all thru my childhood and it is still in the family!
Your Pappy was (is?) a hero.

COMMENTARY FOR 1 JOHN 3:16
The apostle admires the love of God in making believers his children. (1,2) The purifying influence of the hope of seeing Christ, and the danger of pretending to this, and living in sin. (3-10) Love to the brethren is the character of real Christians. (11-15) That love described by its actings. (16-21) The advantage of faith, love, and obedience. (22-24)
16-21 Here is the condescension, the miracle, the mystery of Divine love, that God would redeem the church with his own blood. Surely we should love those whom God has loved, and so loved. The Holy Spirit, grieved at selfishness, will leave the selfish heart without comfort, and full of darkness and terror. By what can it be known that a man has a true sense of the love of Christ for perishing sinners, or that the love of God has been planted in his heart by the Holy Spirit, if the love of the world and its good overcomes the feelings of compassion to a perishing brother? Every instance of this selfishness must weaken the evidences of a man’s conversion; when habitual and allowed, it must decide against him. WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

What you have broken – you really don’t know!
It matters not what is battered or bruised;
Nor does it matter that you are confused;
Get up you coward and face your fate;
Hustle your bustle – and don’t hesitate!
Get down on your knees – and humble be;
Ask Him to show you – and help you to see;
It just might happen He opens your eyes;
To your selfishness – deception – and lies!
When the world gives fame and a big bankroll;
What does man gain if he loses his soul?
Is it worth it to gain – possess worldly goods?
Or cling to the flesh with all its falsehoods?
If you honestly seek first the Kingdom of God;
Then all will be added – does that seem too odd?
Know what God promised is tested and true;
Why would you want what the world offers you?
When you leave behind what the world has to give;
That is when you will truly – be ready to live;
When you die to sin – you make the decision;
To end all the strife – lay waste to derision!
Repent and relieve all the tension today;
Accept Jesus Christ – the Truth, Life, and Way;
Believe that your life will change for the good;
A Conviction of Heart – just as it should!

Probably not what your intention or meaning is duchess, 🙂 but I thought those words might easily be (mis) applied to an addict (of any kind). Amazing, it just so happens that a utube video caught my eye (normally don’t click or watch such) but seeing I used to have an alcohol problem myself (20 years back), curiosity got the better of me. Actually found the content to be quite enlightening. Perhaps some here might also.

Mr Goad’s work is surely a 180 from many of the artists you feature! Though I’m not as drawn to “fantastical” kinds of artwork, I do like his more realistic works: the cardinals, red tailed hawk, poster art. The red peppers look good enough to eat!
Also, I like that he makes his works available at a reasonable price for the average working slob (as my dad would say). No offense to anyone. I’m including including myself in that description. Thanks for the introduction. ❤️
