At the outset, we saw the list of objectives for our intervention in Iran. I and others noticed that keeping the Strait of Hormuz open was not on the list.
It was not on the “list” but President Trump added that task verbally many times during his interactions with the press directly and claiming the US was opening or had opened the straits.
The military folks running the show had to be pretty dense not to get the message if was not formally added to the OPORDER, which I am 100% sure it was.
A few squadrons of old-fashioned PT Boats or MTBs to patrol the Straits of Hormuz would solve the problem. Two 20mm anti-aircraft guns and two dual 50 caliber machine guns would handle drones, fast boat swarms and mine patrol. PT Boats were made with wood hulls but fiberglass would work even better.
Don’t need them the Us Navy and US Army SF already have a large number of light patrol craft that can more than do the job, especially if supported from the air by all the manned and unmanned aircraft (including helicopters) already deployed by the Navy, Marines and Army.

Planting mines in the Straits of Hormuz would constitute a hostile attack and should immediately require a military response. No approval is required!
Short version – it depends upon the mission orders (which includes rules of engagement and area of operations).
It’s possible that due to the ‘ceasefire’ by our side, explicit orders were given to not cross the blockade line…as well as not attack Iranian assets unless directly threatened (i.e. US military assets threatened).
Regardless of how one personally feels or what one thinks would be the best course of actions, the military does NOT exceed the operational boundaries set (which includes contingencies). The civilian government is the command authority – as it should and must be.

They should try to start now to burn into people’s brain that this is who the Democrats are today. This is their goal. One of us is missing the point here, I’m not sure which. The Republican party establishment wants to be rid of all of us, we’re interrupting their business model. They do not want to win a majority in the midterms and will try any sneaky underhanded method to ensure that. So far they have been building a “blue wave” narrative by losing most of the elections since November of 2024 and they hope to keep losing for a few more months. Once they’re happily back in the minority, they can begin screaming, shouting and banging tables about how they would do things differently if only they had the majority. Just send them more money, donate lavishly and then maybe they can do something “next time” they have power.

We also get shellacked in every midterm election and in many of the important state and local elections if they aren’t in a presidential election year. IMO, the “virginia comparison” strategy will be far too complicated and obscure for joe voter, at least outside of that state. a midterm is also rarely a referendum on the party out of power. it is the opposite.
to the degree they want to win, the GOP will have to position it in simpler terms: are you able to afford stuff more than before? are you confident that your retirement and your healthcare is/will still be available? is there more or less war? is the government spending your money on the right things to help you and your family?

I have lived and voted in TX for over 40 years … the TX-RNC has previously advertised the “elections” in the media and with signage without endorsing anybody. The “candidates” had also sent out flyers and voter guides .. while tooting their own horns.
Sometimes well before the the entire vote casting period and other times “just in time for election day only”. In 2018, it was more than obvious the RNC was trying to mess with the election results … 2026 may be a similar election.
It has nothing to do with candidates and all to do with suppressing voter numbers as they have also done sometimes in the past … to keep the numbers below 20-25% if possible to aide block voting for the “desired” RNC candidate.

It is a state primary election, MAGAs in Texas are responsible for the candidates and the election, not the RNC.

I agree. If people see and experience a drop in food prices alone they will get out and vote for those who helped get those prices down. Same with energy costs. The war can be mitigated as a temporary action and should be over by the elections but it should be presented to the voters for what it got done for American security and world wide benefits.
There is so much to put out as positives produced by this administration but the things that mean the most are what is affecting people’s daily lives. Get those prices down on everyday goods that families need to make their lives decent and you will have voters spilling over the seams to get in and vote for the republicans.

I dropped two channels just to get rid of commercials on the other two for the same price. Those pharma ads were driving me crazy!

Also, in the past, companies featured the people in ads that they were trying to reach. Even now, when I see an ad portraying a black couple to sell something like life insurance, that would normally show active retired white people or an Alex Trebeck type, I can tell that they are trying to expand their market to an underreached group. But the trend of interracial couples makes it easier to use one commercial to reach a broader market, instead of multiple ads for various groups. Sort of a one-size-fits-all approach. Just my observations and two cents…

Advertising is also about appealing to the largest amount of people in order to make money and sell things. If you’ve ever lived in a big city or have been acquainted with its young people, these things I pointed out are easily observable.
On the other hand, when a company pushes the envelope too far, as happened with Dylan Mulvaney looking like Holly Golightly to sell Bud Light, the pushback nearly broke Anheuser-Busch. Republican House Rep. Barry Loudermilk led the House investigation and claimed he was going to expose the findings of the corrupt Democrat led Select Committee.
Loudermilk did find that that the Select Committee destroyed testimony, video and written, made up false charges against President Trump and J6 protesters, and more. He released his findings dripping, drip, drip to more conservative news outlets. There was no major release of a final report and Loudermilk is not running for reelection.
And what about Republican Rep. Clay Higgins from Louisiana. When Chris Wray was FBI director Rep. Higgins grilled him in oversight testimony about FBI participation in J6-Wray, of course, knew nothing. He was also asked about Ghost busses that brought in people during J6-Wray knew nothing about that. Higgins said he was going to expose what they really were.

I listened to the entirety of the SCOTUS arguments for the BR citizenship case.
My take away was the majority of court justices were trying to justify publicly how they will do the wrong thing. The wrong thing meaning they will allow children born of illegals to become citizens in violation of the 14th amendment.

So in the final weekend of the 2024 campaign, Barack Obama was dispatched to Milwaukee to squeeze out the lie’s last juice.
There, Obama recycled a series of fabrications that had been slam-debunked, even by fact checkers on his own side. Among his many sins against common decency, said Obama, Trump had suggested that “any Mexican crossing the border is a criminal and a rapist.” Trump had also “instituted a so-called Muslim ban.” If that were not enough, Trump had “said that there were ‘very fine people on both sides’ of a white supremist (sic) rally.”
From the jump, the SPLC had, as its mission, the creation of racial anxiety to scare people into giving it money. For the last generation or so, the Democratic Party has had the exact same mission.

I’ve wondered for awhile how so many from a certain segment of the population feel immune to any consequences. The Letitia James, Fanny Willis, Nate Wade, Ruby Freeman (and daughter), mayor after mayor in Illinois or Maryland, and more, always they seem to feel justified in their illegal acts.

For years the Pentagon has been canceling big ship and aircraft orders and diverting the cash to think tank studies and consultants.
“Experts” with PhDs hate the battleship because actually building ships kills their contracts for producing studies on why America can’t build ships.
There are entire NGOs dedicated to the Jones Act and shipbuilding.
Reporters call these “experts” for their take.
The experts have no idea why Phelan was fired, but they use the opportunity to send a message: don’t build big ships.
Once it’s printed, “experts” around the world RT the fake news to cement it as fact.
A retired admiral like Mark Montgomery uses it as an opportunity to get on TV.
Junior Navy officers read the tweet, see the admiral’s take, then whisper to each other that the battleship project is a career ender.
The “experts” get exactly what they wanted: another wrench in the gears of American shipbuilding.
Shipbuilding efforts stall and the anti-Trump swamp gets to declare victory against Trump.

We need the ships not just to enhance capabilities in the fleet but to replace those that are aging out. Like the Ticonderoga cruisers. A few of those are going to get extensions as it were but the rest are not in a suitable condition to do likewise.
Also, it is important for the defense industrial base to receive periodic orders for ships in order to maintain the expertise of the shipbuilders. Knowledge is perishable without successors to teach it to.
There needs to be some sort of award for military ship building and sailing…much like the coveted Blue Ribband that went away right after the Big U broke all records on her maiden voyage to and from Great Britain…
