OK, I am trying to organize my thoughts about yesterday’s vote in Virginia. Here is my analysis from my capturing of the election night reporting data.
There was an “f-curve” at 8:59pm that was actually preceded by a near f-curve at 8:43. These 2 updates wiped away what had been a decent lead for “no redistricting”. Interestingly, at 9:16 there was another big jump for “yes”.
From my analysis, most of the votes from all 3 of these came from Fairfax County, one of Virginia’s most reliable vote manufacturing hubs.
My old pet peeve, totals going down rather than up, was way too frequent. 23 counties had at least one case of “negative votes”, including Chesterfield’s whopping 71,903 deduction at 10:45 this morning (April 22). Augusta had a 11,968 deduction at 10:18. A whopping 13 counties had deductions in the SAME REPORT at 7:41PM on the 21st (for a total of 18,476). This is not acceptable and needs explained. (Other than, “well these numbers aren’t official”. They are official enough to show on the news.)
And, of course, the referendum was ultimately lost because of mail-in votes. About 10% of the total was mail-in, and about 73% were “yes”. We have no way of knowing how many of these were real people casting a vote for themselves, but they added net 137,000 votes for “yes” and that is almost 50,000 more than the currently reported winning margin for “yes”. (The same applies for the election of Commissar Spanberger)
In summary, a completely preventable train wreck. I hope that the Republican leaders in Virginia are now convinced that mail-in ballots and machine counting are not our friends. I also hope they start asking the hard questions of counties like Chesterfield.

Virginia Circuit Court rules gerrymandering initiative unconstitutional, as the legislature did not follow the prescribed procedure for amending constitution.
Art. XII, §1 requires that after first passage, a proposed amendment be “referred to the General Assembly at its first regular session held after the next general election of members of the House of Delegates.” An election must intervene between first and second passage. Here, first passage occurred during an election cycle — not before an intervening one.
Art. XII, §1 requires the amendment be submitted to voters “not sooner than ninety days after final passage by the General Assembly.” The timeline from second passage to the April 21 vote did not satisfy this requirement.

That’s a shame. But hey — if you can’t get funding, why not recruit volunteers from local conservative groups, high schools, and college campuses? I heard that Liberty University had a steady stream of young voters, and that most of the counties had better Republican turnout than 2024 when PTrump was running. Heck, when I was a senior in high school, I wasn’t old enough to vote, but my friends and I were excited to volunteer at our local McGovern headquarters to do whatever was needed. Just saying, if you can’t get funding, think outside the box.
And I also think that dump of late mail-in ballots may have thrown the election regardless of how many turned out to vote NO…

UPDATE: From the Tazewell Circuit Court, the Judge reaffirmed all prior rulings, declared the referendum as unconstitutional and the amendment process of HB 1384 as unconstitutional. He entered injunctive relief and specifically enjoyed the certification of the election. He denied a motion to stay pending appeal. A final order will be entered once drafted.

The referendum is illegal because it required a 2/3rds majority vote to even advance the motion to referendum status, which they didn’t even attempt, instead tacking it onto a special session, solely for budget purposes. There’s no equivalence to Democrat behaviour, because their interventions attempt to bend the law not, as in this case, uphold it
As I said previously, once the dust has settled, this move by Virginia will likely be seen as a pyrrhic victory that damages, not enhances, the Democrat Party’s chances in November. Referendum aside, Virginia, as well as New York will remind people of the duplicity of a party who will do anything, say anything, promise anything, just to gain power, and the instant they get it revert back to their true socialist-nature.
If the motion had been filed in Fairfax County, what do you think the judge’s ruling would have been? Arlington County?
The Tazewell County judge not only ruled against the initiative, he refused to stay his order. A NoVA judge might have ruled similarly, but refused to stay, which would mean Spanberger could go ahead and re-district while the case worked its way through the courts (although I expect there would be some quick emergency appeals).
A NoVA judge might also have “taken it under advisement,” which would have left the initiative in effect until a later ruling.

I admit that I didn’t until relatively recently. This also means that two branches of the government have been captured and President Trump needs action steps beyond. And the issue is if everyone knows – why has this Administration not mentioned it? Two major opinions of the supreme court are coming up – citizenship to the illegal aliens and the Slaughter case which affects President Trump’s ability to perform his duties as leader of the Executive Branch. Time is ticking quickly on his second term.

He’s probably right. A circuit court judge already stayed implementation of the redistricting vote. His opinion set out these provisions of the state constitution.
It’s hard to see how the VA Dems will argue that these do not apply; “But, Trump!” is not much of an argument.
The majority of the VASC are supposed to be Republican (they are elected by the General Assembly). Even for a spineless RINO, this is a pretty easy case. “You can’t amend the constitution this way. The constitution says so.” No lengthy analysis needed. Just cite the constitution and kick them out of court.

So 1.486M no votes, yet only 1.823M registered GOP voters…either most turned out (81%) or a lot of non-GOP voters said no.
Strangely, the vast majority of “absentee ballots” were returned “in person” according to the VA voter website:

There are early voting sites all over the county that are minutes away from yoir home. Why would anyone drive all the way to the Fairfax County Government Center to turn in their ballot when they could just vote in person near their home?
