Also, Schiff and Nanzi have publicly told him that he is persona non grata in politics now. Neither one of them is on a ballot this year so they have more freedom to say things.
This is strictly about the California gubernatorial primary. No other reason. If no Democrat drops out, then there’s a real chance of the Republicans running 1-2 and thereby becoming the only candidates in the general election.

The top two candidates will be on the ballot. Currently, the top two are Republicans. The Democrats are diluted. If Swalwell leaves the race, the Democrats are not as diluted and maybe they can overtake a Republican candidate.
That appears to be the play, but why not support the Democratic leader and force the “unknowns” out of the race?
My guess is that they fear the fact that their cheating machine (their systems and corrupt practices) will be disabled by Trump. Clean and fair elections? They have the same allergic reaction to sunlight as VAMPIRES.
They have to try to win legitimately and Swalwell is a genuinely bad and swampy character. And so perhaps being a Democratic “nobody” is the most significant advantage they can use for a preferred candidate. It would allow Democrat voters to maintain their down -ballot habit without the guilt of voting for someone they know, at some level, is corrupt and swampy.
Republications are leading because the public opinion in California is shifting, but not enough to make a majority. But the way California is rigged, the primary process is nonpartisan.
Only two people advance to the general election and it’s the two leading candidates. And right now they are both Republican.
If the Democrats did what they normally do, they would make sure all but two Democrats drop out, then the two Republicans would immediately fall to the bottom of the polls.
But they aren’t so certain that would happen. They fear support for the Republicans would increase as the support for lower ranked Democrats is removed by the Democratic establishment of California. So naturally they have to select for the “most favorable” candidates which, in the Democratic world, means the one which people know the least about. That’s part of the thinking behind the creation of AOC. She has the benefit of have “no history.”
There’s still Steyer and Porter. He wants her out and she wants him out. Swell’s leaving doesn’t guarantee the anything… plenty of fights to come.
California has a jungle primary. All the candidates are on one ballot and the top 2 advance to the general election. If too many Democrats are on the ballot, their vote percentages get diluted and two Republicans can advance.
And they don’t have Dominion Election Systems to help them now that they have been outed. Rumor has it that it was the primaries where they started using it to steal elections. That saved the Democratic Party from having knockdown fights and to get more extreme liberals in power. 25% of the Democratic voters are actually just an algorithm.
