Today is an opinion day at SCOTUS. Opinions start at 10 EDT. Live-blogging at http://www.scotusblog.com (not affiliated with the Court).
Still waiting for a decision is the Callais case from Louisiana; that case was argued in October. This case challenges a provision in the 1965 Voting Rights Act that been used to create congressional districts in which a group that is a racial minority in the state is a majority in that district.
The Callais challengers claims this violates the Fourteenth Amendment’s Equal Protection Clause. If the Court strikes down this provision of the VRA, one expects there would be a lot of lawsuits challenging districting in which these minority-majority districts were created. This could really upend all the redistricting being done in several states, and not just in blue states
Roberts is avoiding this one.
That is a good sign. Like Dobbs, he is holding back the decision he doesn’t like, trying to warp conservatives to his side.
I think he’s making sure the midterms aren’t impacted.
Decision, if made, has to come out by end of Court term, which is well before the midterm general elections but we are already in midterm primaries.
They decided to mess up midterms by taking the case.
But usually when laws are enacted that effect voting, judges delay until after voting.
We might see that as part of ruling, or in rushed last minute appeals on implementation.

As of April 1, 2026 the SCOTUS will be hearing arguments regarding birthright citizenship. Unfortunately from what I understand it will only go back to Jan 2025 EO from Trump. Do you have any information regarding a different start date for birthright citizenship than what I read/understood?
Unfortunately, no Callais today. Callais and Salazar are the only two cases from the October argument that haven’t been decided.
Salazar is a whopper too – a challenge to Colorado’s ban on “conversion therapy” of homosexuals as violating the Free Speech Clause.

A few will get slung off into space, but most will come along for the ride of their lives.

Here is the game plan that the forces against Trump will be using for the foreseeable future.
They will attempt to get you to make the perfect the enemy of the good.
Be it the freedom clowns and spending, the immigration hawks with H1B visas, the peace doves with timing, the cultural warriors with total bans of DEI/CRT, the neocons with war fighting, or the swamp dwellers with draining the swamp.
All of them will attempt to get you to believe on whatever issue is the issue of the day that it doesn’t go far enough or do enough. They will try to make you think that some sub issue of that issue is more important and should be handled first, that since the issue hasn’t been handled yet it won’t be, that we can’t do more than one thing, that so and so is a plant to stop the draining of the swamp, or that because it wasn’t 100% Trump lied. On every single issue, one or more groups will attempt this strategy.
You can’t allow them that power over you. If Trump secures the border and deports 2 million, don’t allow them to reduce that good by them saying well he didn’t deport 2.5 million, so he failed or lied.
You can’t allow them to use the perfect to void out the good in the coming months.
They will try. They already have with the CR and the H1b visa debates. It works, that is why they use it. You have to keep it in the front of your head on everything about to occur that half a loaf or hopefully in most cases 7/8ths a loaf is better than no loaf.
Do not allow them to gaslight you into thinking the good is the enemy of the perfect.
In the real world, most things are never perfect, but if we try real hard, we can get plenty of good accomplished in the coming 4 years.
The purpose and goals of President Trump are plainly visible by his actions and consistent: He is for the benefit first of the common PEOPLE of this country, then of the PEOPLE in the rest of the world. It is validating, even to our battered conservative skepticism.
The methods of his leadership are amazing. I still don’t get HOW he does it, or HOW he is able to get so much momentum going, but every day the momentum is growing. Everyone and every organization has their eyes opened every day — just by watching him. Even those who hate him, are biased against him, and want to see him gone — cannot ignore him. He lives rent free in their head, and they come around to seeing the universal principles by which he is operating. He hammers actions based on truth from one direction, then another, and they cannot mount an organized opposition against him.
President Trump is transparent in his words and actions. He is consistent in what he says, what he does, and what he asks/demands of others. His promises are bold and he keeps them like no other president has. He is making massive, nearly overnight changes, not only in our country, but in the world. It is amazing that he is able to accomplish so much when there are so many snakes in the grass. This term, he is weeding them out faster. No U.S. president has ever faced so much organized resistance and treason than President Trump
He has chosen to use his intellect and every skill he has to do what is right. He has tremendous faith that he can make a difference in this world. He has a confidence and courage such that he doesn’t care what others think, yet a humility to know he has to do it with the help of like minded people. Those people are the “common” people, and he ridicules those who think they are not common.
He believes people are basically good. He believes that God is real. He believes that healthy people are happy people, and they need to be able to create wealth freely for their labor, and have the freedom to spend their money on what is good for them.
He believes the United States, with its Constitutional Republic, is the best environment in the world to enable and give opportunity for people to be happy and prosperous.
He believes that we can be a light for the world, but we must demand that the rest of the world respect us and our right to life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of happiness.
He believes the enemy of our country are the stupid, greedy American people who have been selfishly taking advantage of this country; who betrayed the trust and obedience of its people; and who diverted the people’s wealth for their own selfish gain, at the expense of the principles of this country. He’s not going to allow that anymore.
He has cultivated and focused the family of MAGA. Identifying those people whose goodness, industriousness, trust, and obedience have been taken advantage of and abused. He has opened our eyes to this abuse, and the rights of freedom and self determination that have been quietly stolen from us.
He has rekindled the healthy distrust of government and men with too much power held by our founders. He has recultivated the desire to reclaim our freedoms and rights, and is empowering us with a hope and pathway to reclaim our spiritual and economic freedom.
He wants the US to be a light of hope on the hill for all people. He will negotiate win/win agreements with those nations and countries who respect us; who respect the principles and intent of our Constitution. If you do not respect us, however, we are not going to let you take advantage of our goodness, or share in our wealth at our expense. If you as a nation are treating your people badly, you are going to be treated less favorably by us, until you show that you value your people as much as we value ours.
He is convincing those who are very wealthy (most of whom truly earned their money), that the best economic soil in which to build wealth is in a constitutional republic, which supports the ability of the common man to earn wealth in proportion to his efforts. The economic engine of the United States is the human spirit freed to enjoy the fruits of honest labor, and that engine has more natural and raw horsepower than any other governed economy.
The Trump Train seems to be remarkably aligned with universal principles of Truth, which reflect the will and design of our Creator, and are the best standard by which we should live. These same principles were what our country’s founders used to declare independence, and framed into the Constitution of this nation.
Our founders believed that a nation should preserve the right and freedom of an individual to seek, understand, and live by God’s principles. They believed that free individuals working together in humility would make a stronger nation than a government which dictates its will on the people. President Trump professes and seeks to lead and restore this nation back to these same principles.
These principles resonate deeply within all human beings, down to our DNA in every cell, in our spirits, and produce fruit that “miraculously” multiplies. Because we follow universal principles, we see the snowballing acceleration of momentum on day 65 of the 2nd year of the 2nd term of this very stable genius in the history of the kingdoms of this world in the year of our Lord 2025.

reconciliation is strictly limited to budgetary matters under Senate rules. Policy-heavy legislation, like the SAVE America Act, faces near-certain rejection under the Byrd Rule, which allows the Senate parliamentarian to strip out provisions deemed unrelated to federal spending or revenue.

OK, I like Melania, and I enjoyed her film. But I have a hard time with her current push to “empower” children K-12 with AI technology. Kindergarten? I’m sorry, but more and more schools are finding that keeping kids off of phones and computer screens actually HELPS them with cognitive functioning and socialization, and their grades and reading skills went up dramatically. Not to mention the dangers of AI, and young people diving into inappropriate connections with chatbots, and even committing suicide as a result.
The crazy part of the article is that these AI gurus seem to think that because children are still behind academically due to the covid lockdowns, that somehow, foisting AI on them will be the magic bullet to catch them up. I don’t think so — the research doesn’t support it. I’m not sure why Melania is promoting something for children that is proving to wreck their ability to think and reason. It sounds more like all these big tech companies will be targeting our children, and not empowering them. Maybe what we need instead is an army of retired seniors who could come in and read classics to our kids.

I have to jump in here, Scott, didn’t you have the benefit of developing your thinking skills during childhood without screens? By interacting with the real world? Did you use pencil and paper for arithmetic, no calculator? Did you perhaps even use a slide rule?
With that basis and the maturity of years, you are able to use AI to do certain tasks for you, and not all of your thinking. Many people use AI to do the whole project, and are thereafter unable to modify their software because they didn’t really design it.
It’s common knowledge that Gates and Jobs prohibited their own kids from having the screen gadgets they were selling. They knew full well the damage that would cause.
I hate to see 2 and 3 year olds sitting motionless, pacified by their parent’s smart phone, that keeps them quiet while they grocery shop. It’s not conducive to normal development. Tic Tok videos are making the American attention span ever shorter, and it starts in early childhood.
Better to ban or ration the screens (max 30-45 minutes a day) so kids can develop an ability to concentrate and reason.
Wrong and more wrong. It is their enviornment because Tech companies pushed this agenda and get their due yesterday in the California Supreme Court. Of all places. The problem, as stated above, is not employing technology so early. They need the basics first and then technology should come into play. For me, maybe, at the middle school level. After teaching for 32 years and retired for 10, we worked extremely hard to keep cell phones out of classrooms. Again, as above, a lot of places are seeing the benefits of sheltering them.
I know lots of five year olds that can read already. It is the wave of the future to work on data systems and repair robots and mechanical production. We do not want our children left behind. When my daughter didn’t want to eat breakfast at home before school, I enrolled her to eat breakfast at school since I had to be at work by 7 a.m., Then I found out she could take computer class before school (2nd grade) and I told her she could eat a protein bar or an apple in the car on the way to school and get started on computers. She is 37 y/o now and keeps the farm books and compiles all the tax receipts on computer.
She’s a keeper! 😍

There are programs that do that…..I use Turbo Tax for tax time because in my younger years it is very difficult to keep up with tax rules/regulations and do taxes without an accountant. If you found a particular tax publication that you needed….you needed to be a lawyer to comprehend. Reminds me….do away with the IRS.
There have been lots of studies that show using computers at school hurts education.
Before, during and after Covid. Hurting education with laptops and tablets. (Side note, searching on screen time gets TV effects which is at home.)

US pays $129 million to victims of Iran-linked terrorism in New York case
The United States has paid $129 million to victims of Iran-linked terrorism as part of a broader $318 million settlement tied to a long-running case over a Manhattan office tower, prosecutors in New York said on Monday.
US Attorney for the Southern District of New York Jay Clayton said the payment followed nearly two decades of litigation over assets connected to 650 Fifth Avenue, a 36-story building authorities said concealed financial interests of the Iranian government through Bank Melli.
“Iran has sponsored terrorism for decades… Since the inception of this litigation… we pursued hidden Iranian government assets tied to a Manhattan skyscraper to ensure those funds would ultimately compensate victims of Iran-sponsored terrorism rather than terrorists and their enablers,” Clayton said in a statement.
The case began in 2008, when US authorities moved to seize assets linked to Bank Melli Iran, which had allegedly used front companies to maintain a stake in the building and bypass sanctions. Prosecutors said the structure allowed Iran to generate income from the property while concealing ownership.
The 650 Fifth Avenue tower was built before the 1979 revolution by the Pahlavi Foundation as a source of revenue, but control of the property passed to the Islamic Republic after the fall of the monarchy. In later years, the foundation was renamed the Alavi Foundation, while Bank Melli acquired a stake in the building that US authorities say was managed through front companies known as Assa.
Under a final settlement reached in January 2025 between the US government, victims’ groups and the building’s owners, $318 million will be paid to victims. The initial $129 million installment was completed on March 20, with the remaining $189 million to be paid over three years with interest.
Clayton said the case reflected the Justice Department’s goal of “vindicating the rights of victims of the Government of Iran’s long-standing policy of supporting and promoting terror attacks across the world.”
Victims eligible for compensation include those affected by attacks attributed to Iranian-backed groups, including the 1984 bombing of US military facilities in Beirut, the September 11 attacks and other incidents targeting civilians.
As part of the settlement, the partnership controlling the building is being dissolved, and ownership transferred to a new entity, with approvals from US authorities including the Treasury Department.

Wouldn’t really matter we could sail warships and troop ships into Greenland’s Harbors even if the could blow up the runways at Thule Air-force base which I am guessing are well protected. The greatest part of Greenland’s defense depends on the US. It would be about as effective as those three or four troops France sent to protect Greenland for a few days.
Greenland’s ports do not have traditional fixed anti‑naval coastal gun batteries in active service. Defense is provided by Danish/NATO forces using naval patrol vessels, aircraft, radar/sensor networks, the U.S. presence at Pituffik/Thule (for regional security), coast-guard operations, and temporary expeditionary assets rather than permanent coastal artillery emplacements.
The US could also quickly land paratroopers and equipment to reopen any blown up runways.
I think the point was that Denmark is going to defend Greenland by blowing it up.
Here’s a thought.
When we have tracked down the billions of dollars of medicaid fraud in California, stopped the billions of dollars of Somali fraud in Minnesota, stopped sending hundreds of billions of dollars to a corrupt government in Ukraine, and put an end to all the freebees being provided to the illegal aliens after we deport 15 million or so of them, can we please include FULL vision and dental coverage under Medicare to the retired United States citizens who spent their working careers paying for everything?

When I was in FL, right before election day, I noticed that the Dems kind of hid their political party affiliations while doing meet and greets etc…
The strategy was to latch on to the aspects of everyday living that MAGA was emphasizing…but including the FL issues like overbuilding and high home owner insurance rates. And that gets real attention as FL is rapidly becoming a very expensive place to live….and each town seems to have their own regulatory traps based on the Public Administration model that is used…and it seems to vary throughout the state. The disciplinary history (confirmed in Rep. Barry Loudermilk’s November 2024 letter and Judicial Watch/Just the News reporting) is extensive and troubling:
2019: 33-day unpaid suspension for leaving his loaded service weapon unattended in a public Capitol Visitor Center bathroom (gun unsecured for ~55 minutes).2001: Abandoned his post guarding the Speaker’s Office to play cards in a cloakroom; allegedly lied to Internal Affairs when confronted. IA recommended firing; he kept his job.Failed routine shotgun qualification test.Failed FBI background check for a personal firearm purchase.Referred to Maryland prosecutors after firing his gun at a stolen car in his neighborhood (a neighbor reportedly in the line of fire; no charges filed).At least one off-duty confrontation with another officer (7-day suspension in a separate incident involving profanity and accusations).Multiple referrals to the USCP Office of Professional Responsibility; some disciplinary files reportedly missing.Despite this pattern (especially around firearms, duty abandonment, and truthfulness), Byrd was promoted to captain in 2023 and received post-Jan. 6 benefits (retention bonus, home security upgrades).
