During the State of the Union address, President Trump surprised the audience with the introduction of helicopter pilot Eric Slover who was severely wounded in his legs during the successful raid in Venezuela to capture Nicholas Maduro.
Chief Warrant Officer 5 Eric Slover was repeatedly struck in the leg and hip by hostile fire as he was preparing to land. As his helicopter approached the target area, Venezuelan defense systems opened fire, and Slover was struck four times in the leg. The Chinook was also hit, but still flyable.
So, he kept flying. “One bullet after another. He absorbed four agonizing shots, shredding his leg into numerous pieces,” President Trump noted. Despite his wounds, Slover brought the aircraft and his team back to safety. Slover maintained control of the aircraft despite his wounds, executed the insertion, and ensured his crew successfully executed their objectives. He then piloted the aircraft back to the USS Iwo Jima. Within three hours, another team of helicopters would exfiltrate the assault team.
Slover is still recovering from his wounds and was standing with the assistance of a walker when he received the award. A total of seven Americans were wounded in the operation.

The Congressional Medal of Honor is the ultimate recognition but it’s not enough. In addition to the medal, it shall be Eric Slover who plays Eric Slover in the Oliver Stone movie to be released (He’s straight out of central casting). The medal, playing himself in the future movie still isn’t enough.

The Medal of Honor Museum opened about a year ago in Arlington TX. Highly recommend a visit, with a box of tissues. It is very well done, even has 2 small rooms with hologram MOH recipients on screen, and you can ask them any questions you want to.
My takeaway from last night’s address, POTUS recognized everyone there and, without saying it directly, let us know that we are at WAR. Each of the special attendees are soldiers in a WAR (no disrespect to medal recipients ). He is a wartime president.
I recall a platform built around being a peace time president.

Yes, we are at war, actually multiple wars. To include awarding the Purple Heart (a wartime medal) to the National Guardsman shot in Washington DC.
Men like CWO5 Slover represents what has made the USA the great country that it is. While he is undoubtedly a hero for his actions, I am sure that any number of men on that mission would have been willing to have done exactly the same if needed. That is what sets the US military apart from so many others.

I am personally grateful that the SOTU had this moment – a current moment – of honor. This was not some historical acknowledgement. This is current – it is real for the here and now.
Reading the news about the mission makes it seem movie-ish. We swept in like the A-Team and no one got hurt and the everyone is smoking cigars and drinking beers a half hour later.
We heard all military personnel returned no loss of life, but that is not the whole story. This moment of honor and the explanation of the situation makes the mission real and reminds all of us of the true selflessness and dedication so many patriots have in their hearts and minds.
I salute all War fighters that keep this country safe and Free. I thank the President for this one open window to see the difficulty and danger to be overcome for a successful mission.

As much as we sometimes despair of the things happening in our country there are times where the shining jewels show us that we’re still Americans and we can still get it done! Obviously filled with pride for our warfighters!
It usually takes years, decades to process the MOH recipients, I am glad they got CWO Slover’s his in record time. Praying for his recovery and his family. I am very grateful for their service to our country.
May God always Bless this American Hero. May He bestow speedy healing and recovery to this man who represents one of America’s best. I’m so proud of my President for giving him the honor he deserves. The actions of these American Heroes freed the Venezuelans from the Jack Boot on their necks. It was also a heartfelt poignant moment when the Venezuelan political prisoner was reunited with his niece during the SOTU.
What an amazing, incredible night, not withstanding the way the GOAT trolled the Democrats and made them look like the insane fools that they are. They stepped into each and every trap that President Trump laid for them. I couldn’t stop laughing during those parts. Especially entertaining was the terrified look on the face of Ilhan Omar, who totally lost it during a number of times during President Trump’s speech and she began screeching uncontrollably. LOL. I can only hope that her terrified look means she knows she and her husband are going down as a result of the fraud Congress is investigating regarding their finances. With any luck, she will also have her citizenship denaturalized and she will be deported if she is found guilty.
I’m SO proud of our President. We are Blessed beyond belief to have him as our POTUS. May God always protect him and keep him healthy and safe.
