Bottom line, the IRS can share data with DHS to identify status of illegal aliens.

I recall this site got up in arms when Pres Trump’s tax returns were published, so I would be careful about pushing for “data sharing”.

This was a DC court and they may be willing to rule the other way once there is a more extensive record presented by a plaintiff, so DHS needs to build up their own extensive record as quickly as they can so that the next ruling might go their way as well.

A significant portion have filed and paid taxes, especially withholding taxes. A portion of those filers have received years of Earned Income Tax Credits.
They purchased houses, and cars. They opened bank accounts.
They thought it would continue to be business as usual. They thought the administration will be gone in a few years. They decided to wait it out.
Banks have know your customer rules (KYC). If Bessent issues an order telling the too big to fail banks they will lose their licenses if they continue to do business with known criminals (and even if the visa overstays do not see themselves that way, the law does) a whole lot of people are about to debanked.

Your post answers what I was just about to ask. A lot of illegals don’t file taxes at all so I couldn’t see what this accomplished. But for those who are in the system it should be easy to cross reference
Imagine that a lot of them may have paid withholding, so long as they are not working completely under the table, but do not file unless they expect to get refunds. And they are using either stolen or phony SSNs (another crime). A lot of citizens have gone to file their taxes only to discover someone has already filed using their SSN, and that is usually one of these illegals.
I saw an article some time back that the Biden admin was essentially making banks give home loans to illegals. The reasoning was that they cannot discriminate based on immigration status. And the bank would need SSN and other stolen info to process the loan. I believe that has been reversed by the Trump admin, but am not certain of that.
As for taxpayer funded educations and other benefits, it is just my opinion, but no one here illegally should be receiving any taxpayer funded benefits of any kind. That is often the draw pulling them here in the first place. Emergency medical treatment, sure, but no treatment for anything that is not an actual emergency.

From what I read in the decision, IRS can’t share “data” but specifically can share “address” as that is spelled out in the Internal Revenue Code. IRS is prohibited from sharing “tax return information”.

In filing taxes, these same illegal aliens have given themselves up because they list legitimate addresses, contact information, social security numbers used. All types of info that can be used to track them down.
