The Bureau of Labor and Statistics releases the employment figures for January today [BLS DATA HERE]. Overall, in the establishment survey, 130,000 jobs were added and the unemployment rate fell to 4.3%. This is much stronger than anticipated and there are indications of significant movement back to work as the exfiltration of illegal alien workers continues.
Via WSJ – “The U.S. added 130,000 jobs in January, surging past expectations and marking a strong start to the year following a weak year of job growth. The January numbers from the Labor Department were above the seasonally adjusted 48,000 jobs added in December, which were revised slightly lower. Economists polled by The Wall Street Journal were expecting 55,000 jobs in January.
The unemployment rate, which is based on a separate survey from the jobs figures, fell to 4.3% from 4.4%.” (more)
What I find interesting in the Household ‘Employment’ Survey is the number of people going back into the workforce. I am left to wonder if the ICE removals are starting to create employer driven incentives, increased wages etc. that seem to be pulling sidelined workers back to the labor market.
[SOURCE]
528,000 more people employed. The unemployed dropped by 141,000, and the number of people not in the labor force dropped by 221,000.
A very interesting result.
NEW: Job growth SURGED in January, adding 130,000 total non-farm jobs and 172,000 private sector jobs — shattering expectations once again.
The unemployment rate fell. Wages grew. Federal employment is now at its lowest level since 1966.

I have all my money invested in the US. I’m fully convinced that the US economy will sky rocket and Canada’s will tank. I plan to take vacations in the US and possibly buy a vacation home there because I believe in what the Trump administration is doing and want to support it. The USA is the only major force in the world standing against globalism and communism. Thank God for Trump. I pray for him, his administration and the USA every day. If I was younger I would probably apply for citizenship. I also pray for Canada but Canada seems to be determined to take the wrong path and average Canadians seem oblivious to it. I think the only hope for Canada is to be hit so hard by economic consequences for their choices that it shakes them out of their delusion and complacency.
I agree, but would add there are potentials events that could bounce the Canadian value upwards.
From the distance it isn’t apparent who indicators we will see or how to hedge for the possibilities?
Canada cooked its own Goose, so no tears shed as the Sassy Canadian Leisure-rich Snowbirds crash.
As an side, I stopped traveling to hunt/fish in much of Canada when Canadian rules became unfathomably complex, and much of my game I was expected to turn over to the Indians. Most of the rules were tiered so non-Indians but Canadian had a different set, non-Indians Canadians in-Province a third set, and native Indians a fourth set of rules. Getting crossways became enough of a risk that outsiders need special insurance, if it is made available to them, as your boat/gear/rifles/vehicles will taken if you don’t navigate this right. The hours suddenly need to descend to the lower levels of Toronto International to navigate the gear/rifle in/out process or longer if you are crazy enough to fly with any of the game you took, is a real drag.
Traveling through days after the border reopened was amazing. People at restaurants and hotels demanding your papers, and when you asked them why, they were very open that Covid wasn’t the worry, but getting crossways with Health inspectors was a big deal. They were literally afraid of their own government people.
Canada has changed over the decades, and that the Canadian Boomer generation set themselves up to be “hosed” in Bob & Doug McKenzie ‘s parlance, is just desserts for their complacency in letting this all happen.
If some of Canada becomes independent or becomes part of the USA, I will be there ready to shop for perhaps some outdoor pursuit land and maybe a pied-à-terre if any interesting cities are in the deal.
Sad, but that is what it usually takes to change up a nation.
It took Biden here to wake up a few million. But they hate it prosperity it seems.
>> “the only hope for Canada is to be hit so hard by economic consequences for their choices that it shakes them out of their delusion and complacency.”
From where I sit the Canadian media will ALWAYS finds ways blame everything on Trump and deflect responsibility away from the establishment whence their paycheck comes.
Gradually some people will figure it out, but to do so requires critical thinking, which is practically punished by the education establishment.
Most of the people in LA would like things to be better, but a ridiculous few correlate the mess they live in with how they vote. We are all living in a slightly attenuated version of 1984
Good old Rick Santelli, the Godfather and operational center of the Tea Party movement. God bless Rick!
Please Note, Be Aware.
The BLS is about to reset the jobs numbers by over a million jobs. It turns out that the corrupt COVID loans listed jobs that didn’t exist. But, the BLS included them. They are about remove those jobs. So, expect the MSM to say they were jobs lost because of Trump. Just be aware.
Yep! BLS revised 2025 DOWN by one million jobs.
CUT THE CORD
“Unexpected” 🙄
Enforcing foodstamp work requirements may be helping too.
I was just thinking that, since we learned during the October/November 2025 shutdown that 1 in 8 Americans was on food stamps!
maybe…but there was/is a large number of perfectly able people who are just not working. Will not take any kind of work and are not even looking. Many of these people yes are on “welfare”, but many are not too. I think that most of this good news about employment is actually businesses getting more confident that despite some of the uncertainty that the media has drummed up (tarrifs, inflation, high costs, etc) are realizing that just isn’t happening and are gearing up for at least continuing to fill open jobs and many looking for growth.
I do agree that the snap program has been a complete disaster and has enabled people to not actually be motivated to find work. It surely must have had some impact on these kinds of people.
as my Dad sez: miss a few meals, you’ll find a job.
God Bless America
But isn’t it amazing how many of the people on welfare look like they have never missed a meal in their life? Sorry if that sounds unkind, but I do think there is a correlation!
not unkind at all. I notice the same thing.
one particular things that I like about the Kennedy agenda is to remove a bunch of junk food and soda from the SNAP program. TBC, I have not followed that closely, but I remember it was one of the main thrusts of his mission: the help people establish a good diet, by making regulation that does not allow someone to go to Walmart and fill up a cart with chips and soda and you and I pay for it..not once, but in the long term, there is no doubt that same person is going to be a health challenged fatso, so WE will end up paying a much bigger cost as this person ages poorly and must have health care that other people who do care about their health will not. It should be very important to everyone that diabetes is one of the major diseases that for the most part can be mitigated with improving the diet and going outside and working up a sweat. It really upsets me and I am not without empathy to these people, but what is happening right now is a horror show.
God Bless America
It is a horror show, but I honestly think there are people who knew what would happen and continued pushing these programs anyway, because of the obscene amount of money to be made AND because people who are dependent are much easier to control!
Bondi should be investigating members of congress who bought stock in Pepsi, WMT, Kraft and other food companies that lobbied for EBT funds and got it. THe congressman and women are basically laundering money to themselves via stock buys which should be illegal.
I’ve been waiting for this to be instituted! Hurry up and get it done Mr. Kennedy. I can hear these people melting down!
The same sum per person can create a problem for parents too, including weight. WIC for 0-5 and Free breakfast and lunch for a child 4-10, leaves large sums for parents to buy for themselves, but once they become teenagers that sum disappears because they eat you out of house and home. lol. I’ve seen that in one of my working poor families. Overweight, suddenly becomes skinny and food doesn’t last.
The new rules just went into effect. I don’t think that’s changed much yet, but it will.
Even temp jobs are worthwhile.
Temp jobs are often a foot in the door, when you prove yourself worthy and valuable to the employer.
I want to agree but the fraud is innumerable, especially in big blue cities. If doctors are willing to help commit fraud for autism, they’ll do it for any reason, so recipients don’t have to work. Including massive balances left on food stamp cards from Covid scammers! Give it time, they’ll run out.
Fascinating dynamics that I don’t think we’ve ever seen, at least not in my lifetime. Welfare work requirements + getting rid of the illegals + bringing manufacturing back home/tariffs + A.I. stealing jobs + …
And people are complaining that Trump isn’t focused on the “homefront.”
A more macro view will enable such people to see that he is really ONLY FOCUSED ON THE HOME FRONT.
We do live in interesting times. It wears you out after 15 years of this crap.
2006…to 26. 20 years of b.s.
Gov’t jobs negative 42,000!
A good start.
That is one reason that Government can’t have massive layoffs. Mass unemployment.
For the same reason Government can’t stop overspending. Big recession.
Unscrupulous Presidents (AutoPen) fake good economies by increasing spending and hiring.
Well, there is always fudging the numbers to fall back on.
You’re so wrong.
ROFLOL!!! Check the mirror!
About 300,000 Federal civilian workers have been laid off since Trump’s 2nd inauguration. It doesn’t appear to have increased unemployment.
Anyone recall the number of federal ghost employees DOGE found? It was a very large number.
But not all at once.
I am sure all government employees have highly transferable and marketable skills. Taxpayers were willing to pay them, assuming they offered value in exchange for our tax dollars.
And did not just sit around all day on our government-issue computers on taxpayer time posting Trump insults on conservative blogs .
You need to look carefully at the bottom of table B. Government increased employment Jan 2025, but decreased Nov and Dec 2025 and Jan 2026.
300,000 divided by 12 months averages 25,000 a month. Compare with the last three months of decline.
The numbers of Government employment data are included.
300,000 fired in a month would overwhelm the private sector. 25,000 a month is a small decline in the good private sector increases. Tolerable.
That bias built into the way the numbers are made makes it easy to increase government employment and deceive that the whole economy is good.
Same with the bias in the GDP calculation. Taking money and spending it is neutral in GDP calculation, but is really harmful because government is waste. But spending money you don’t have increases the GDP. Setting us up fir a big fall.
Conversely, there is a built in bias against restoring sanity. Fire government wasters in mass and you slam the unemployment. Stop spending money we don’t have and slam the GDP.
President Trump, via multiple tactics, is increasing private sector employment and economy while gradually restoring sanity in government spending and employment.
How is it We The People tolerate paying for 3,000,000 Federal civilian workers? Why do we accept the Federal government costs 24% of GDP?
The alternative?
Alternatives?
Ban all government employee unions. Provide only Obamacare and Social Security as the sole government employee benefits. Hire ire at will only. Loss of any pension benefits for any proven malfeasance, while on the job.
You’re talking to the wrong dude. I’d get schedules of everyone, do simple math and eliminate hordes of the useless.
Government employee unions are huge players in the Democrat party.
Teachers unions leading the charge, who also reach deep into every single community in America pushing a pro-Democrat agenda .Followed by SEIU who run most county election offices all across our country.
Taxpayer funded Democrat-voting employees reach long and deep into the fabric of our nation. Who sits on your local school board matters more , collectively in sheer numbers, than the one person who sits in the White House.
If we didn’t have a compromised corrupt “republican” clown party we’d get a law making all public sector unions illegal.
If we didn’t have a compromised corrupt “republican” clown party we’d also get a law establishing term limits for members of Congress, but alas, we do have corrupt politicians serving themselves instead of We The People.
I’m happy with ICE employment, which has increased offsetting useless govt jobs!
Its not the employees, the Fed buys things or is a consumer of private sector good and services. Need cement or asphalt to pave the street, buy it from an operator, its the price that may be under question, though.
The potted plant added approximately 130,000 federal jobs in 4 years and who knows how many illegal aliens?
Potted plant did much more horrendous damage to this country than adding fed employees. But lest we forget,,,it is good to hear the reminders Ponce! 😁
Gavin Newsom doubled the number of fully benefited government employees during his 8 years in California . (aka beholden Democrat voters)
It’d be interesting to see the jobs numbers broken down into citizens and non-citizens. As I recall, that was done for a period last year, and it turned out citizens taking jobs increased and the numbers for illegals dropping, which is exactly what we want to happen.
That’s the best news we’ve had this week!
ICE removals making a difference with more going back into the workforce?
Most likely…
How about the upending of SNAP benefits and the new requirements for those…
I expect just as much.
This will enrage Democrats
Already has!!!
More than they are already enraged?!?
Seriously…. that’s their default setting.
They have turned into everybody’s parents prediction.
“If you keep making that face, it’s gonna stick”
After that’s acheived, they get hired by CNN.
Rachel Madcow’s face immediately came to mind when I read that! 😂😂
lol. I was thinking Murkowski if they ever vote her out!🤣🤣🤣
Took me a few years!!
Glad to say I have No friends, family or acquaintances that are democrats. Zero!!
Gracias Dios!!!!
Hakeem Jeffries: it is the economy stupid.
WINNING!
I am almost positive that all of those newly minted ‘healthcare’ positions were not front line doctors and nurses but instead more levels of money sucking bureaucracy.
100%
Received a small deposit from SSA, no information. A week later – completely after-the-fact – got a 3-page letter in the mail (they have my email) outlining in larger than normal text that I would receive ‘said payment’ for my SSA increase, giving all manner of ‘only a government bureaucrat could conjure up at such length’ reasons as to why this was happening. Gotta be getting paid by the printed word/page. Concluded that one government department was doing the checks and another totally redundant department employing – at our expense – “non-essential” busybodies to send out these letters.
Only government can be that inefficient so as to maintain their private union workforce…it’s like WeWork, only using We The People’s confiscated tax dollars. Total scam operation funded by filching money from citizens (actual ones, not Democrat fake ones).
Interesting. Had they failed to give you your COLA increase?
Yes, COLA, just came in a separate deposit without info, not like I didn’t know what it was, but oddly delivered. My comment example was more in support of Scott’s comment about the asinine bureaucracy that keeps itself afloat on WTP’s tax dollars. Time to eliminate the bloat…and IRS for that matter…that’ll rocket the economy forward unrestrained by government overreach that hamstrings all it touches, including the grift that is SSA. Sure, happy to get my money returned, but would have preferred to have invested it myself instead of their pittance propaganda that it’s a “benefit” I’m receiving because of their benevolence (baloney…to be polite).
COLA means you got a “raise” this year. You get no more.
You mean I get back more of what was taken at the point of a spear since age fifteen.
Yep. I had to laugh at the crooked printed letter to answer a series of questions for part D. Impossible to understand and only yes or no answers allowed. It was during the shutdown and I could call for help.🤣 Last time I called there was a delay in paperwork from the state so it wasn’t showing on there computers. Redundant and pointless.
I’m sure the satanist party and its voters will find fault.
On The Five today: Will be waiting for Tarlov – deploying her own obscure one-off Lefty poll from Ucantmakethisupistan – work herself into a screech frenzy to spin this as something to the complete opposite…then have Gutfeld go off on her. Worth the price of admission.
I am the exact opposite. I avoid the show because of her. Arguement for arguements sake bugs me, a la Hannity & Combs.
Yes, brain damage…only to be taken in small amounts otherwise permanent damage may result. Gutfeld is the antidote. Imbibing is more to see what the takedown will be when proper facts and data are presented that cannot be denied by rational thinking persons. Woman is a twisted logic elitist, manages to believe everything that comes out of her mouth…plus gets paid quite well to be that shameless. Good entertaining fodder while out on the tractor cleaning up manure.
I refuse to watch The Five because they allow Tarlov to spew her lies and propaganda. Giving her a voice, to me, is reprehensible. A large percentage of the show is planned with her garbage in mind. A large percentage of the show pivots and becomes “The Fox-View”. They are giving CNN-MSNBC a seat at the table.
Ahh, everyone needs a little entertainment now and then, like seeing a circus sideshow…ya just gotta try it once or twice. (altho she is like getting seawater in your mouth, one gulp is all it takes to know it tastes bad and not good for you. Heh)
I refuse because it’s a Fox News property and they worked overtime to cement the vote theft in 2020. I’m never going back.
I do miss Colmsie’s radio show. Radio Graffiti.
Exactly, she’s an attractive Colmes in a skirt.
Attractive?
I cannot stand to listen to her fingernails on chalkboard voice!
Correct…she’ll focus on the loss of Gov’t jobs…her point will be proving the Trump economy isn’t working…
We’re all on to her and her bogus Dem polls…
Oh now ya gone and done it…..
The slaveowners are going to be mucho mad….
Wonder if any of those jobs are a result of exporting prior holders of said jobs….
Very interesting results indeed!
Are we starting to see the myth about “jobs Americans won’t do” explode?
As crime continues to go down nationwide and the economy, job growth and personal income all continue to rise, will we also see the myth about “immigrants make us better” explode?
The winning streak continues. May God continue to bless and protect President Trump.
MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN
By the way, we should also take notice of how “surprised” the various media “experts” are at the great news. Completely gobsmacked!
They are either blithering idiots, or they are liars. Either way, the myth of “credentialed class expertise” should go down in flames as well.
Wait, what?!? Had you been entertaining a fantasy that “media “experts”” actually were speaking factual information, as they read off Democrat talking points and emotional drivel?
I have never believed “media experts.” That’s why I called it a myth.
There’s a number of things immigrant related we need to keep track of.
Before/ after: Homicides, rapes, retail thefts, breaking and entering, and
(the big one) vehicle related issues. Vehicular homicide, DUIs, insurance
pay outs for insured motorist collisions.
If the vehicle related issues start plummeting after massive deportations,
then we, the milked dry people should start demanding some insurance
premiums roll back.
Premiums (even liabilty) around Atlanta are bad enough that it would
probably be more cost effective to acquire a crack habit.
You are exactly right.
If you factor in the huge amount of fraud that is being exposed, along with everything else we have been discussing on this thread, it’s not a stretch to believe that the UniParty open borders policy has cost We The People of the United States over $1 trillion in damages and looting of the treasury.
You nailed it! I’m so sick of rising insurance premiums it’s ridiculous! Time to start holding car insurance companies accountable with new statistics! No fault is BS! Do that for health care insurance also!
Some time ago, it seemed like 130-150 thousand new jobs a month was break even for unemployment. I think that was pre Obama.
Under Obama, massive numbers left the labor force, reducing unemployment without many new jobs. And COVID scrambled everything.
I also remember when hundreds of thousands new jobs was the natural part of the boom cycle. It was only in this later stage where wages increased.
The household survey looks like this part of the boom, but the BLS data is still warped.
So Trump seems to be setting the economy back to health but it will take a while to straighten it all out.
Imagine how many manufacturing jobs went bye bye after Obama got hold of GM in 2009.
Bye, bye, Pontiac. Farewell, Hummer, so long Saturn, adios Saab. Be interesting to talk to someone
who worked in Spring Hill Tennessee and what it was like pre and post 2009 when the Saturn
plant closed down. Dayton had SEVEN GM plants. It now has none.
The Learing Centers are hiring.
Love your handle – says so much in just three words.
BLS is a farce… a gain of 130k? That’s highly likely to be revised lower a year from now in the next annual revision because, for the second consecutive year, the BLS annual benchmark revision was hugely negative.
And… BLS needs to look at actual tax data instead of flawed sampling coupled with an even more flawed Birth Death model.
2025 Annual Revision:
BLS revised nonfarm payrolls was lower by 1.029 (million).
Most of the change occurred between Jan and April.
The biggest revision was -785k in April.
For the full year, the revised job gain was 229k… averaging of 19k jobs per month.
Between April and Dec the entire job gain was 12k.
From July to December the Economy lost 45k jobs.
The 2025 Annual Revision reflected the farce that was the Biden economy of 2024. No one was buying Biden’s BLS bullshit back then (let alone Powell’s “transitory” inflation nonsense of the prior year). I doubt we’ll see anything remotely like Biden’s revision for 2025, Trump’s first year.
It’s not just with Biden. It’s been a farce for decades, regardless of the political party. Every admin for the last 40yrs has tweaked the calculation so they can claim the economy improved under their watch. The BLS is gaslighting as its finest.
Absolutely. Same with inflation.
I agree! Including unemployment numbers. Once your unemployment runs out you disappear from the rolls. It’s all bs!
💯
Totally agree…glad you pointed all of this out because you are 100% correct. So, I’d just caution that every month has previous month job numbers revised down and that annual BLS adjustment (usually April) has been wiping out job gains for years. Today’s 130k jobs might end up less than half when all adjustments are factored in…which leads to the question, what is the BLS doing to get the estimates so consistently wrong?
I would also caution about the unemployment rate that is published. It grossly misrepresents the actual unemployment rate, and the U6 figure is closer to the truth (around 8%) but I suspect it’s a little low, too.
Also, there is never a discussion about full time vs. part time…just “jobs.” The jobs figures include part time workers, while helpful, isn’t the kind of job growth needed.
When taking all of this into account, it helps to explain the lower poll numbers of Republicans and President Trump on the economy. We know results will come if we can stay the policy course but it takes a long time to correct sins of the past.
Thank you! I wish I read your comment before butchering mine. Once your unemployment runs out, they drop you off the rolls even if you’re still unemployed.
Remigration produces American jobs. Isn’t that special? Go Homan, go.
It is repatriation back to their homes of legal citizenship, their legal passport home countries.
And tell them to take their country flags with them. We don’t want to see them in our country ever again.
Excellent numbers.
We’ll see going forward how much AI destroys jobs and if a growing GDP/economy can override the jobs AI kills.
Major tech and other companies laying off due to AI.
IMO, as a 45 year Executive Recruiter/Headhunter going forward will tell if AI is a net adder or subtractor of jobs.
Everyone’s cut out to be a Machine Language Software Engineer in the AI world if those are the people in demand.
Companies are heavily invested in AI since 2023—and affordability as an issue for people is really about increasing job prospects at higher salaries living the American Dream.
AI was invented to kill jobs adding to corporate profit, productivity.
That’s like saying the Industrial Revolution was invented to kill jobs adding to corporate profit, productivity.
Of course we advance to improve profits and productivity. That doesn’t kill jobs, it changes them. And it’s a good thing.
I know someone who went to work for twatter/x a little over a year ago. At some point they were offered a raise to help train AI doing their job, & they accepted it.
They just got laid off. Whoops!
Pretty good for a dead of harsh winter in America where construction season hasn’t even been started yet. The next months should be really spectacular.
Also watch for the hiring at the new manufacturing plants
In my part of NY they can’t find enough construction workers to fill the jobs. They even started hiring people with no knowledge of the trade. Carpentry, drywall and painting Union helping Union. Dunlop went out of business so trade unions gave them jobs, untrained, with trained pay. Total disaster, imo.
Just wait a month or two…the number will be revised downward, as they always do.
Does anyone believe the BLS? (aka, Bullshit Labor Statistics).
Absolutely not. That’s why a lot of media outlets aren’t even covering this.
Well, that and they hate GEOTUS. Can’t go reporting good news.
It’s probably even better than expected!
illegals are frequently not on payrolls, they get cash. Employers need employees to make money, so legal replacements will show as new jobs.
However,
The dire predictions probably were factoring into account the termination of thousands upon thousands of “ghost employees” found by DOGE.
Being nonexistent they would not need to be replaced.
Imo most, not all, arrested or deported illegals weren’t working any real job at all. Selling drugs, stolen items etc…living off babies mamas collecting benefits. They did do some ICE work raids but I haven’t seen if those people were detained/deported because DHS/ICE reports focus on reporting criminals.
It’s reported that 59% of households with at least one illegal alien member, are getting Federal assistance. The cost is approximately $2,000 redistributed from every taxpayer’s coerced tax payments. The sooner we cut the assistance rolls and deport the illegal aliens, the better!
I have seen an uptick in requests for employment applications at work recently. Some are admitting that they are looking due to their SNAP benefits being reduced or lost.
Must hurt the WSJ to report that.
They always have to use terms like “surprising”. Clowns.
shout OUT TO PAM BONDI for refusing to allow the corruptors in her testimony before congress to control the discussion as she exclaims:
the DOW, NASDAQ hitting all time record highs and unemployment numbers have gone down substantially. AND FOR 9 STRAIGHT MONTHS VIOLENT CRIMES ARE DOWN TO RECORD LOW…(and mentions something about a record low in crime that goes back 123 years…I’m not entirely sure exactly because I was out of the room at that time but I caught the comment….what caught my attention is that none of the corruptors disputed any of these numbers…they were speechless.)
While I would appreciate Bondi do much more as Jim Jordan points out (has an indictment happened against Brennan?) She does know how to handle the horde in this congress who are despicable jackwagons who care more about some nutjob wrestling with ICE and a woman who attempts to run over ice than they do about keeping out police and our nation safe and secure.
I cannot WAIT for the ID law to get floored. They are going to lose their freaking minds.
And if doesn’t pass, which is likely, I think the President AND Bondi have another legal constitutional means to deal with states who do not comply with a basic requirement to verify the citizenship status of a voter.
GO BONDI
GO TEAM TRUMP
God Bless America
It’s rich when Jim Jordan is calling somebody out when he hasn’t done a single thing that I know of to bring the sunlight.
Theater for the masses.
MEDICARE JUST WENT UP 10%—no concern for seniors at all anymore, just keep milking them dry so they lose their homes.
That was a feature not a flaw of the gubmint take over of healthcare.
Same thing happened with the gubmint takeover of financing higher education.
Both were brought to the taxpayers by Barack Hussein Obama & the former was kept in place by John McStain.
(S)elections have consequences. You’re not alone, we’re all being squeezed.
Residual throes of the Zerocare lie.
No senior needs to be taking a minimum of eight different pills every single day. Wean yourself off “medicare” wealth transfer system. Be well and thrive.
I presume I’ll never use Social Security or Medicare, as they won’t be available to me.
That COLA we got from SSA was eaten by the increase in Medicare.
Bastas!
It has been that way for years. Suspect a price-fixing conspiracy.
But we get less in return for the Medicare increases. So there is that. And ironically our health will get better ,the less Medicare “treatment” that gets inflicted on us.
Not only did the Medicare premium (deduction from your SSA check) go up ~10%, the out-of-pocket deductible went up a bit over 10% at the same time. So seniors get a double punch in the gut (wallet).
Seniors are a driving force for getting into a number of our current messes.
May your Medicare increases be substantial!
Finally! The increase was actually a massive decrease!
How do we think about the negative revisions?
The story is in the downward revisions.
Only 15k jobs/month added in 2025. Trump is turning it around, (especially for native workers!) but the job market is weaker than reported. Hopefully this leads to rate cuts.
If you remove hundreds of thousands of “ghost” workers from Federal jobs..
They do not show as “.unemployed”
If you remove hundreds of thousands of alive illegal immigrants, working an actual job, they also do not show up in statistics. as “unemployed”
But….
their legal replacement shows up as a “job added”.
Calculate all statistics accordingly.
I also wonder how many people are finally going back into the workforce because it has become much more expensive to buy Obamacare, even when receiving subsidies, so people are having to get off the couch and find a job in order to have employer paid healthcare?
And government jobs went down.
I believe the SNAP benefits reset is helping as well. Remember when all those people disappeared from the workforce during Covid? I believe they are now slowly returning to work.
“Economists polled by The Wall Street Journal were 55,000 jobs in January.”
Is it only me? It MUST be me, because if ALL the economists predicted 55,000 jobs growth but the actual jobs added were 130,000, that’s a MASSIVE miscalculation, off by over 130%!
And it wasn’t just a few of these experts who got it so wrong…ALL of them did!
SO WHY ARE WE CALLING THEM ECONOMISTS!
WSJ should poll me! I’m no economist but I KNOW I can do better than that!
I suspect that *all* polling in the MSM is push-polling, where they only consult their partners in crime; e.g. the respondents are fellow ‘journalist-experts.’ Remember the Journo-List? But these stats are so undeniably yuge that even the presstitutes can’t deny the trend; so methinks the real numbers may be way mo’betta.
Waay mo’betta!
Yes, but what percentage of January 2026 newly created jobs went to foreign born workers?
The employment situation worsened for whites between December 2025 and January 2026 by -0.1%, worsened for blacks -0.3%, and worsened for Hispanics -0.2%: but for Asians rose +0.5%. High school graduates (no college) rose +0.5%, some college worsened -0.2%, bachelor’s degree or higher only rose +0.1%.
So now we know who’s received most of the new job growth in January 2026: young Asians with high school diplomas.
And given that “Asians are currently the fastest-growing group of undocumented immigrants in the United States, with significant increases in unauthorized immigration from countries like India, South Korea, and China” one must ask again what percentage of January 2026 newly created jobs went to young Asian foreign born workers?

Typical, Trump is stopping hundreds of thousands of people enjoying the opportunity of the funemployment’ that the Obama administration generously provided, using tax payers money. How dare he!
U.S. citizens will not work for slave wages, they just will not do it. And they do not have too, the underground economy 1.5 trillion, that is just what they estimate it being, they really do not know. This economy is not standing on a corner selling drug either.
I know people who have not paid any kind of payroll income tax for over 40 years, with these people everything is cash, rent electric food fuel everything is cash and guess what these be white people. They are seriously independent minded, I would say. No slavery for them, at least that is what they tell me!
So, me working and paying taxes is slavery? I’m for limited government and limited taxes, but not for freeloaders on my dime. That’s my problem with the illegals.
Literally the bottom line of this report shows why Democrats are rabidly obsessed to take down Trump: the steady loss of government jobs which the life blood of the entire Democrat party.
Democrats serve no other purpose to their voters, than expanded sucking off the taxpayer teat.
Our local McDonald’s had “Help Wanted ” signs up for the past 3-4 years. Couldn’t get any help even at paying $14.00 per hour for non-manager positions, e.g., working the grill or counter. They recently received over 30 applications…tells me that the SNAP reset is working.

Im not sure where Sundance is coming up with his numbers.
I saw that and it reminded me why I never trust zerohedge. Tyler Durden once again distracting from good news.
Did you read Sundance’s headline?? 130,000 added in Jan 2026.
ZH was for 2025.
And unemployment is down despite supposedly millions of less jobs available.
Read Mr. Brooks comments above; that should help with some understanding.
ZeroHedge is one of the few outlets to dig deep into the numbers to show the BLS manipulations. What Sundance is showing is the “headline” figures…the earliest public indication of the most current month. As the ZH article explains, be cautious because those “headline” figures are revised down, sometimes in a ver big way that erases all the feel good headlines.
Revising old numbers is more for the historical record. It doesn’t affect anything today or tomorrow. “Experts” just spout their favorite talking points regardless of the numbers. The economy is what it is. Growing fast.
In Minnesota right now, having a job and showing up to do the work are two entirely different things.
Many legal immigrants are terrified of ICE, and stay home. Anti-ICE is still out playing in the streets. No one is getting fired yet.
You don’t have to “fire” illegal immigrants. They have no recourse, which is why it’s not a good system for them.
Eventually, the employer will hire someone else to do the work.
What’s disconcerting is BLS also did a massive downgrade of past numbers, including a huge downgrade for most or all months in 2025. BLS still gets these numbers very wrong it seems — something I was hoping Trump would fix pretty quickly.
In that context it’s reasonable to expect a downgrade for January.
Not trying to be negative — I support Trump’s economic plans 100%. But I’d also say the numbers haven’t really played out in what I’ve seen looking for work the past year or so.
23 million government employees, mostly union members, in this country. That is one heck of a guaranteed Democrat voting block.
MAGA 👊👊🇺🇸🇺🇸❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻
I wonder how much of this is driven by enforcing SNAP work requirements? I’ve seen plenty of people asking if anyone is hiring in local social media groups, more than I can remember before.
Historic Negative Jobs Revisions: 1 Million Fewer Jobs Added In 2025, Only 15,000 Avg Jobs Monthly
Starting at the top, total US payrolls were revised dramatically lower starting with the Jan 2021 data and every month since, and net of the cumulative changes December 31, 2025 total nonfarm employment was revised lower by 1.029 million from 159.546 million to 158.497 million.

528,000 more people employed. The unemployed dropped by 141,000, and the number of people not in the labor force dropped by 221,000.
A very interesting result.
I agree because IIRC hundreds of thousands dropped out of the workforce during/post covid and never returned. If they now are returning, we all know the factors why. Interesting indeed.

Re: economy, navarro, over time u.s. economic policy affects (negative or positive) the u.s. economy
The economic ‘experts’ (wrong again, over time) claim tariffs cause inflation…
then
the economic ‘experts’ (wrong again, over time) claim tariffs harm trade…
Peter Navarro may not be on tv daily promoting to buy or sell this or that…
but often
behind the scenes, he -and others (Bessent, Hassett) – have a grasp on what helps, or hurts, the dynamics of a good economy.
Podcast, 15 min., some comments on the economy ( 1 year after Trump and company move into office )..

…and it all occurs because people went out to vote in Nov. 2024, again.
There are more and more good reasons to get out to vote, again, again and again…to help make it last, for others.
You are exactly right, Sundance. Removing illegals has brought people from the sidelines into the labor market. And it’s happened faster than could have been expected. Similar good things are happening in the housing and rental markets.
The bloated government shedding 42,000 do nothing pencil pushers is the greatest thing EVER!!!! I LOVE TRUMP!
