Apparently, the mother of NBC reporter Savannah Guthrie has been kidnapped by someone or some group. The strange, weird, and rather odd events surrounding the issue have been unfolding for several days. Tonight, Savannah Guthrie and her siblings released a weird video saying, “we will pay,” in what appears to be a statement about a ransom.
The internet has been ablaze with this story for the past four days. I have no idea what is going on, but the entire thing seems sketchy. Maybe that’s what happens when someone is kidnapped and the communication takes place in public. It’s all weird.

Allegedly the daughter’s car has been seized and that daughter’s husband is a primary suspect. I’m not sure on that, but we’ll see. The garage door was open for 2 minutes when she was dropped off at the house, so if a non-family member is the perpetrator here, I suspect that’s how and when they gained access to the house. They waited until she was settled and then did what they wanted to do.

Speaking only for myself at 70yo. I think I’m pretty sharp in my thinking but have noticed some changes in memory, like right now I have to think what was so important that I felt a need to respond. That’s not too much of a stretch but a tad overdone. But memory does begin to be an issue as we get older, even if only a little. It’s generally not as sharp as it once was. I suspect that whether it was the elder Guthrie or the very busy and self absorbed young ones, someone’s memory likely slipped on something that was important. I’m not laying blame because that’s not what’s important right now and the only people who are to blame are whoever removed her from her home. I hope she’s alive and well. I hope this had none of the shady overtones of family or political involvement. Frankly, I don’t like to speculate too far out on a limb and think I’ll await for substantive answers.

Think about it chronologically. It would have recorded all activity to the cloud before it was ripped out of the wall. Had they paid for the subscription, they would have video of it being ripped out of the wall, as well as what preceded that.

Someone broke into my office. I have cameras all around the place.
The thieves were able to see a few of the cameras before their break in and come from an angle away from the camera viewing angles where they were able to disable some of the cameras.
Redundancy (multiple cameras at multiple angles caught their faces on tape – they couldn’t see all the cameras at the time of their break in). Perhaps with proper surveillance of my office and camera system by the thieves, multiple times to ID every camera, they could have found a way to get in without being recorded – but that would require a lot of work and still might not be possible. Still doesn’t matter – police did nothing even with a definitive positive ID of a neck tattoo of a black widow spider and them knowing exactly who he was… and his group.
So what I’m saying is it didn’t make any difference – police didn’t do anything. They even ID’d the thieves – knew them – and NEVER caught any of them. Police in my liberal city / state are worthless.
Now, I have a very hard time believing anyone could get to a doorbell camera and disable it without being recorded. I just don’t see that as possible…there is likely no angle they could get at to disable it without being recorded.

For anyone reading this who may be designing/ considering a camera system, have redundancy with cameras to cover doors and windows and other entry / exit points from multiple areas / angles so others can’t disable them all before being recorded. Make sure the recordings are sent live to the cloud. Then hope your police will do their job… I live / struggle to live – in one of the worst – politically speaking – states in the country. Our Police simply don’t do their job here where I live… they don’t have to… so they don’t. They have plenty of time to hide on the side of the road and catch my wife, running late trying to get our kids to school on time, and give her a $550 speeding ticket, but no time at all to go after real criminals who break into and rob businesses. They have criminalized us and we put up with it.
They know the public is politically helpless where they have protection, themselves. Corruption happens, but what you describe is police working for the gangs’ protection.
They, the system, fears the affiliated gang of your thief more than they fear the public catching on or being able to do anything about it even if they do.

Someone here commented that the Nancy’s back door was left wide open. If that is true, perhaps the kidnappers came in that way, neutralized Nancy, then opened the front door and reached around to rip out the doorbell camera. If I remember correctly, Nancy’s blood was found on the front steps indicating they took her out via the front door. Who knows, almost nothing at all makes any sense in this story…
The one constant throughout the retelling of known facts is, the evidence indicates familiarity with the victim, her home and her habits. Had to be someone she knew, someone who was thoroughly coached by someone she knew, OR, there was a lot of long term preparation by someone not known to her.
Exactly. I also noticed the cameras were within reaching distance except the roof camera. We have every angle covered where I live and the cameras are mounted very high and definitely out of reach without a ladder. So many angles are covered that trying to get to one camera would have the person being recorded on another camera. And the recordings are stored both in the cloud and on the computers that everyone has. When thinking of installing a security system it’s best done by those with expertise in security that will also have culpability should their system fail. People tend to be more thoughtful when their actions or lack thereof might cost them.
I forgot to mention that whenever one of our cameras detects motion it alerts loudly and video shows up on our phones immediately and at night has floodlights that stay on for several minutes after motion is detected and recorded. At first I found these alerts to my phone jarring but now I find them comforting. The sound it makes is enough to get my attention even if I’m asleep and it can be adjusted if there’s outside work being done, such as when the grass is being cut or whatever may need to occur.

According to the timeline someone was in Nancy’s home early Sunday morning for over 40 minutes. minutes. Odd. Then Nancy’s blood was found on the front steps. She went missing and her wearabouts are unknown.
If it had been pre-2025 I would agree she was likely taken to Mexico. Now, both the border is more secure making it harder to bring people or objects across either way, and the international cartels are well established (and protected) here in our major cities. So, if still alive and actually kidnapped, she is likely being held somewhere in Tucson or somewhere here in the Maricopa valley; Phx, Mesa, or other.
That said, the whole situation is rather weird. The constant public videos reaching out are definitely odd.

In the original “Ransom” movie, Glen Ford’s character televises the most amazing response to the kidnappers’ demand. He tells them he will pay no ransom and, instead, will use the money as a bounty on the kidnappers, dead or alive, unless they return his son unharmed.
Ford’s acting is masterful. His delivery of the message is so powerful that one wishes it would be the standard response to all kidnappers.
Glen Ford was a superb actor! He did exceptional comedy in The Gazebo – one of my favorites.

One of the contractors that visited the house recently would be my best guess. Mother was bragging about her daughter – as we parents do – when the perp began to consider the possibilities.

However, the combination of evidence suggesting an inside job with the rumors of an abduction to Mexico raises the possibility that whatever happened is the sort of thing more likely to happen when you hire cheap- possibly illegal- domestic servants to work in your home.
It would be very easy for a maid, home health aide, cook, nurse, gardener, etc to let the boys back in Mexico know about a soft target with family ties to a wealthy American.
This saga is also more proof that Ring and other security cameras are only good at violating our Fourth Amendment rights and otherwise invading our privacy, while doing absolutely nothing in regards to keeping anyone safe.
On Fox news the “experts” keep saying the family is saying, by their choice of words to the kidnappers, that they will pay for a dead body.
This would give the kidnappers an incentive to kill her (assuming she is still alive).
If they get the money anyway, why not kill here and eliminate a live person giving a description of them ?

The movie was “Silence of the Lambs”. Savannah was reading the plea from a.piece of paper in her hands. The delivery was the same as the actresses.
