I just watched an interesting video about how the Ukraine war has increased religiosity on both sides, and how important military priests are on the battlefield. Note: The video host likes to pepper things with humor, but he doesn’t denigrate faith. Also, there’s a brief history of military priests in WWI & WWII before the video digs into the Ukraine war. 

A few excerpts from the video:

When we picture the Ukraine war, it’s all trenches, tanks, artillery, and drones. Lots of drones. But amid the chaos, an unexpected figure steps forward, emerging from the smoke, carrying no rifle, no grenade, just faith.

Military priests play far greater role than most people realize because in this war, both sides don’t just fight for territory. They believe they’re fighting for something sacred. 

On both sides of the line, they bless troops before battle, console the broken, and reinforce the belief that the cause they’re fighting for is just. 

Essentially, these priests are boosting the morale of entire formations.

The chaplains don’t hide in the rear. They’re right in the trenches with the troops, exposing themselves to enemy fire. As a matter of fact, many have already fallen on the battlefield. 

However, from my observation, while faith and military chaplains definitely play an important role in Ukraine, they remain secondary to history and the broader ideal of an independent Ukrainian nation, rooted above all in Ukraine’s Cossack past. 

The majority of Ukrainian chaplains are affiliated with the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, but there are also some Catholics for the populations of Western Ukraine and even some Protestants. Meanwhile, priests from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church that are affiliated to the Moscow Patriarchete, they’re perceived as outlaws and they’re often bullied by Ukrainian authorities, as many of them are seen as Russian spies. So, you won’t be seeing them on the front lines. 

We can see how Russian forces observe faith in a different way than Ukrainian soldiers. For them, they’re the direct descendants of all Russian history. And that’s why some soldiers will go through all these rituals with a big USSR patch on their shoulder. Not only that, it’s very common to see Russian military personnel fly both the religious banner and the flag of the Soviet Union side by side.

Military priests also bless fresh tanks coming out of the factory going to the front. Why does this feel so much like Warhammer? It’s literally the tech priest. 

Overall, the striking observation is that faith and the sacred occupy a much more central position on the Russian side. The 7th motor rifle brigade celebrated its victory over the Siversk salient by raising a giant cross overlooking the battlefield. I haven’t seen anything like this on the Ukrainian side.

Military priests are omnipresent in the Russian narrative. Yet, contrary to the armed forces of Ukraine, they’re rarely attached to one specific unit. Most of them come and go between their hometown and the front. As a matter of fact, Russia’s military clergy reported only about 340 full-time positions…there’s simply not enough Orthodox priests in Russia. And that explains why in spring 2025, the Russian Orthodox Church launched a program to train more military priests. 

It’s in this war, the Ukraine war, that Russia’s military clergy officially was reborn. Because on the 7th of June 2022, the Russian Orthodox Church’s holy synod revived the pre-1918 senior leadership position of Protopresbyter of the military and naval clergy, a rank that had been abolished after the Bolshevik revolution and the Soviet secularization of the armed forces. 

One priest explained that the first mission of these regimental priests is to conduct liturgies or prayer services. To do so, 150 dugout churches have been opened across the entire front. As a matter of fact, many of these underground churches are the only places on the front with AC units. And priests are joking around by saying that’s how they attract a lot of people, even atheists and people from other religions: 
  “Time to get baptized.”
  “No.” 
  “I have AC.”
  “Father, I’m ready.”

Priests are also present for servicemen that want to confess, as well as the sacrament of baptism that is performed on those who wish. Surprisingly, it’s a lot. For example, on the 25th of February 2025, the Moscow Times announced that 42,000 soldiers of the Russian armed forces were baptized directly at the front.

On July 10th, 2024, for the first time in Russia’s modern history, it was reported that the Terek Cossack Brigade installed the first Cossack warship cross in the zone of the special military operation, and many others followed after that. They explained that this is a symbol of the affirmation of orthodoxy, faith and, statehood on the liberated lands.

The Russian news media Readovka published a 35-minute documentary on the Terek Cossacks. A Cossack Ataman said that Cossacks go where their homeland is in trouble. “We don’t start anything without prayer. We do not make decisions before consulting God. Up there they decide for us.” 

Naturally, an important part of the mission of military priests is preparing soldiers for combat. Offering spiritual guidance as they confront fear, violence, and the possibility of death. 

What’s interesting is that in many Russian units, you have a mix of religions. So, naturally, you have also chaplain for Buddhists and Muslim soldiers. Just as portrayed in this recruitment video where we see Christians, Muslims, and Buddhists being shown on screen. And you might ask, what about the [unsaid: Jews]? Yeah, let’s not talk about that. 

In Tatarstan, the majority of the troops are Muslim. In Birata, the majority are Buddhist. But overall, from what I could observe, Muslim and Buddhist chaplain are less numerous, or at least they’re rarely shown on screen. And it’s also obvious that there’s a clear hierarchy. Orthodoxy is always shown first and above the others, but always with respect. I know it sounds anecdotal, but I couldn’t find any posts on Russian Telegram channels where we see Russian Muslim soldiers celebrating Ramadan or Eid. 

In conclusion, the Ukraine war has led to a resurgence of religion on both sides. Military priests remind us that even in a war defined by modern technology, men still carry fear into battle. Unlike officers, chaplains act as entrusted friends. Their presence alone can turn the tide. Helping soldiers endure the hardships of war, helping them find meaning despite all this violence, and pushing them beyond their physical limits.

My oldest grandson is a senior in high school.
He stopped by on Friday after his part time job to visit and raid our refrigerator. 😉 – Which he does around twice a week.
Something was different this time, he was troubled by events in Minnesota and especially, the recent “Epstein files” release. He was thinking they surely revealed PDJT was some sort of monster.

I’m thinking someone at school has his ear. It’s a bit difficult to explain to him how impressionable we all are at his age. I’d like to think I succeeded in calling out the differences between innuendo and actual evidence.
Anyway, as a back-up, I sent him Sundance’s Epstein article from a couple days ago. This should give us plenty to sort through. (As if he/I have that much time..)

In the future, I’ll be redirecting my efforts. If we are to teach our kids WHAT to think, we force ourselves with the task of always being 100% correct. WHAT to think is what our enemies use. It is more important we establish the fail-safe of HOW to think as well. I figure if we do both , we can pass the torch successfully and depart this world in peace.

COMMENTARY FOR PROVERBS 10

Through the whole of the Proverbs, we are to look for somewhat beyond the first sense the passage may imply, and this we shall find to be Christ. He is the Wisdom so often spoken of in this book.1 The comfort of parents much depends on their children; and this suggests to both, motives to their duties. #2,3|. Though the righteous may be poor, the Lord will not suffer him to want what is needful for spiritual life. #4|. Those who are fervent in spirit, serving the Lord, are likely to be rich in faith, and rich in good works. #5|. Here is just blame of those who trifle away opportunities, both for here and for hereafter. #6|. Abundance of blessings shall abide on good men; real blessings. 7|. Both the just and the wicked must die; but between their souls there is a vast difference. #8|. The wise in heart puts his knowledge in practice. #9|. Dissemblers, after all their shuffling, will be exposed. #10|. Trick and artifice will be no excuse for iniquity. #11|. The good man’s mouth is always open to teach, comfort, and correct others. #12|. Where there is hatred, every thing stirs up strife. By bearing with each other, peace and harmony are preserved. #13|. Those that foolishly go on in wicked ways, prepare rods for themselves. #14|. Whatever knowledge may be useful, we must lay it up, that it may not be to seek when we want it. The traveller that has missed his way, and cannot bear to be told of it, and to be shown the right way, must err still. #18|. He is especially a fool who thinks to hide anything from God; and malice is no better. #19|. Those that speak much, speak much amiss. He that checks himself is a wise man, and therein consults his own peace. #20,21|. The tongue of the just is sincere, freed from the dross of guile and evil design. As vinegar sets the teeth on edge, and as the smoke causes the eyes to smart, so the sluggard vexes his employer. #27,28|. What man is he that loves life? Let him fear God, and that will secure to him life enough in this world, and eternal life in the other. 29|. The believer grows stronger in faith, and obeys with increased delight. #30|. The wicked would be glad to have this earth their home for ever, but it cannot be so. They must die and leave all their idols behind. #31,32|. A good man discourses wisely for the benefit of others. But it is the sin, and will be the ruin of a wicked man, that he speaks what is displeasing to God, and provoking to those he converses with. WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD

Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.

I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.

Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.

With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me. 

Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.

Be not deciveived, GOD shall not be mocked.
I believe we are “in a season of harvest”, as my healing ministries friends proclaim, and I totally agree. Have a great week of going forth and helping others when you recognize a need, be the best you can be for your family and friends, and make “room in the inn” every day by reflecting on a Bible verse and/or prayer.

Prayer Of Thanksgiving In The Evening

Praise Your holy name Heavenly Father, for granting yet another day in my life and for being with me every step of the way. Thank You for the many blessings that You have provided and the love and fellowship that I have with the friends and family that in Your grace You have placed in my life.
 
My heart is so thankful for all the many blessings that I enjoy day by day, and today I am once again reminded that Your mercies are new every morning and Your faithfulness endures from generation to generation.
 
Thank You, that I have been brought into Your family and have been made a child of God and a citizen of heaven. Words cannot express my love and devotion to You Lord
 
I pray that You would watch over me as I rest tonight, and that You would give me a restful night’s sleep so that I may wake up in the morning refreshed in body and spirit and ready to do Your will. Guard all those that I love and may we all grow in grace and in a knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ in the days that lie ahead. This I ask in His precious name,

Prayer Of Reflection On The Past Day

Loving Lord, as the day is coming to an end, I want to thank You for being with me in all that has taken place today. I also want to lay the whole day before You, asking that you would show me if there is anything that I have done to hurt or harm another person unknowingly, or if I have done anything that is displeasing in Your sight, or quenched the work of the Spirit in me, so that I may turn away from such things in the days that lie ahead.

Lord, I desire to do Your will in all things. I pray that You would cleanse me of any wrong thoughts or attitudes that may have surfaced in my heart today. Wash me in Your cleansing flood, I pray. 

Thank You, that You are a God who forgives our transgressions when we are willing to confess them to You, knowing that such cleansing before You immediately draws us back into sweet fellowship with Yourself. 

Give me a good night’s rest I pray, and may I rest quietly in Your loving arms in the knowledge that in Christ, I am eternally secure, due to Your amazing grace, for which I praise You. In Jesus’ name,

Evening Prayer For Forgiveness

Heavenly Father, thank You for bringing me through this day and Lord, forgive me for the times when I have wandered outside Your best will for me, instead of trusting You implicitly.
 
Thank You, that You are such a gracious Shepherd to me and that You come and rescue me even when I lose my way and stray from the path that You have laid out for me.
 
As I look back over today, I know Lord that there were things that I should have said and done differently, and times when I reacted in a manner that was not honouring Your holy name. Forgive me I pray, but thank You, Father, that You always faithfully prepared to gently bring me back to Yourself.
 
Give me a good night’s sleep I pray, knowing that there is no condemnation because I am in Christ, and may I wake up in the morning refreshed and ready to do Your will. In Jesus’ name I pray,

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and his family as they seek to lead America back to You. Also, we pray for Angels to protect and support our Sundance as he works for justice and peace. 

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall. Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.

A prayer for members of the CTH that they remain strong and clear thinking and that the site remain a bastion of freedom and continue to spread the facts of our current dilemma to millions in this country and across the globe. That the light of freedom inspired by our Creator and enshrined in our founding never be extinguished by acts of man.
