When we were kids, my brother and I and friends played a knife game we called “territory.” Similar to mumbly peg, but, you essentially carved up your opponents piece of turf (by throwing your Jack knife near their feet) till they no longer had enough territory to stand on.
Great fun! Can you imagine any parent today sending their kids out to throw knives at each other’s feet! 😃 😀 😄 😁 🤣
Lot of MP, we also had a game called Stretch-where your opponent had to put his foot where you threw…until someone fell over

My dog Skip is a wonderful coming-of-age period film about these times. It is based on a book by Willie Morris. The film is a gentle telling of a classic tale. I got my DVD from Amazon for about $10. Highly recommended!

Good grief, of COURSE I am familiar with her…and that book, though I’ve never read it. I must I think.
My go to for rereading is anything which Sir PG Wodehouse wrote, but especially his “Jeeves and Worster” books and the Lord Emsworth ones.
The doddery Lord Emsworth’s pride and joy is a Shropshire sow of an immense size whom he has named “The Empress of Blandings”, which is his ancestral home.
I cannot tell you how laugh out loud funny and clever Sir Peregrine’s writing is, ” The Master of the Metaphor” I call him. And he truly is.
If ever I want an escape and need to laugh, his books are always my go to. What a genius he was!! Can’t recommend them enough to lose oneself in or lift the spirits.
Right now we are re-re-re-watching All Creatures Great and Small, and are enjoying them more and more with each viewing, catching small things we have missed the previous go rounds which make them more pleasurable.
I have waxed lyrical about this multi-series on PBS Masterpiece. What an absolute joy it is. A world that was on the Yorkshire Dales which is no more. Perhaps that is why I keep a box of tissues nearby…💕
Oh, my goodness! I have not thought of the Lord and Empress in decades. Now I have to revisit them.

Odd grief, losing him, but thrilled my parents have their full pack with them !

My dad’s pup lived with us for 2 years after his death: his kitty, for 9! When she passed, it was a strange mixture of grief, and yes, relief that they were reunited at last. But, it also felt as though one of our last connections was gone.

Good morning Dear Betsy. My hand is raised for opting for farm to rescue dogs. Actually I did come pretty close to it when I had the horse ranch. Rescued quite a few the twenty some years I had it, along with many cats, goats, a few horses, llamas, a few donkeys, various fowl such as peacocks, chickens, ducks and geese.
I do not regret any of those days on the ranch! Loved every minute of it.
Cursday images are wonderful and causing me chuckles, giggles and lots pf smiles and of course tears. You never disappoint me.
The cats are sleeping with me just about every night. Beau does once in awhile, but prefers the couch. The cats are enjoying all the many wild birds that are feeding non-stop with this cold weather. Tails swishing constantly and they make chirping noises! Such fun to watch them.
I’ve got to put my long hair up though now as the cats want to play with it all the time! Cleo is getting to the point where she climbs into my lap and wants rubs and scratches, but only for a short time. Great progress with her. She still prefers either sleeping under the bed or on one of many pieces of furniture that have throw blankets on them.
I am quite tired of the stuff re-freezing every night. I had no choice but to go out yesterday for feed, alfalfa, groceries, cat and dog food, wild bird seed and litter. Waited until after 12:00 noon so roads would be wet not frozen. Was amazed at how quickly I got everything done and could get home on a very timely basis.

We order most of our animal supplies from Chewy.com. They deliver it to a large wooden box we keep just outside our gate for deliveries. Maybe that would help you?

Good afternoon Soaz. I’ve just never got into the habit of ordering anything online.
I do not think I could get the alfalfa hay, alfalfa pellets or the Senior feed from Chewy. LOL
It’s not too bad as I am only 6 miles from the feed stores I frequent and between the two of them, they carry everything I need for the horse, dog, cats and chickens. I also do not have to pay taxes on the horse and chicken feed as I’ve got an Ag exemption from when I had the ranch. I get discounts and all sorts of coupons and rewards, which is a really great way to save on the feed.
The roads are melting pretty good as we have had bright sunshine for several days. It does freeze overnight as the temps drop though, and they have just issued another cold weather advisory from midnight Friday through Saturday until 11:00 AM. So anything that melts will be icy again. fortunately I won’t be needing anything, so I will not have to be out in it other than to feed Blue.
I’ve been going to these two feed stores forever and they know me well and usually know exactly what I need. The boys that work there are very helpful and I do not have to do much of anything If it’s not on the shelf, they go out to the back warehouse and check to see if the truck delivered it yet. When I pick up a bale of alfalfa, they know to wrap it in an old fitted sheet in the back of my small SUV (I no longer have a pick up and boy do I miss it), so it keeps the mess to a minimum! If they are training someone new, they tell them to wrap it up in the sheet. I think they think of me as a granny of sorts LOL. They are all good boys, well taught by their parents and probably most have some kind of ranch or farm and livestock and probably show livestock at the fairs here in Texas.

Sounds as though you have a great set-up! Nothing like the personal touch of a neighborhood store. Plus, the added advantage of tax exemption and coupons is hard to beat.
We do get our hay from a local feed store, where they (thankfully) load everything for us. Unloading and stacking bales when we arrive home can be a bit daunting. I’m sure glad no one is filming our struggle with those unwieldy bales! Probably pretty funny

So sorry it has taken me this long to get back, Pat…
Needed to do a grocery run today as the temperature is good and the ice for the most part has melted. Then needed to take Chris’s car to get the wipers which froze fixed. Thankfully, as soon as he got in it to take it and started the ignition, whatever controls them had reset and they are working. All I could see was $ $ $ $!!! So that is our blessing and mercy for today…and we are grateful.
We had peacocks!! The pair arrived suddenly in the dead of winter, and we named them Joey and Phoebe. She wasn’t with us for long, but Joey made himself at home and was quite the ornament for our Welsh garden. I’ve written before how he adored dry cat food and would come to stare at me through the kitchen window if I became lax in providing it. He’d preen and spread his beautiful plumage and guard his territory with magnificent grace and pomp. King of the garden he was…and he knew it.
I am so glad, but not surprised, that Cleo is letting her wary guard down now. That warms my heart because there is nothing more frustrating than wanting to give a cat some loving who doesn’t know how nice it can be. But now she does, and I suspect her the length of her stays will increase.
What a cozy furry family you have 😌💕 It is not to be borne thinking about what would have been their situation with this terrible weather had Cleo not been directed to your door. I’m pretty certain you’ve thought about this as well…
I’m forever saying if I won the lottery that it would be the work of a second to rescue those who need it. Either that or lavish contributions to those who do.

We have a dear Treehouse friend who was forced to relinquish his beloved dog when he recently lost his job. And I have been in tears off and on ever since he told me personally. Any prayers which don’t yet have a home, please, please direct them heavenward that a merciful loving Lord will work to change his situation so that this horrid state of affairs can be reversed…🙏🏻 🙏🏻 🙏🏻

I really miss the Peacocks and have considered getting a pair again in the future, but I will wait and see how things go here for the time being.
I have thought about the life Cleo and the kittens would have had if Cleo had not shown up here. I do not let them out, they are indoor cats. There are too many predators lurking in the woods behind the house.
They leave Blue alone fortunately, but he probably scares them away, along with Beau. The predators do not stay long in my immediate area, and I am sure, it is because of Beau and Blue. I know the wild hogs do not go anywhere near Blue’s pasture. Unfortunately they dig up the woods and around my pastures outside my fence. Haven’t been around lately so they may have been trapped and/or shot before the bad weather hit, as I heard a lot of shooting at night, when they will normally come out. I do have the occasional Armadillo, but they do not do near the damage the hogs do.
Glad you got your running around done as the cold is coming back midnight Friday until 11:00 am on Saturday. Yuk. I will be overjoyed to see Spring this year, and chastise me if I complain too much about the heat come summer! LOL.
Yes I remember reading about that, and he was put on my prayer list immediately and will remain on it. Please let me know if you get any updates on his status.

I’m looking for help for abandoned cats right now. Animal control won’t take them. SPCA won’t/can’t help. Cat Coalition told me to spay/neuter them at my expense and give them a forever home. Would that I could.
This is a growing and very serious problem in many places.
These beautiful, sweet FEMALE cats are fixing to explode with babies and I have exhausted all avenues for help. I’m stumped.
Truli, where are you located? You do not have to give me an address, just what part of the country. There are national associations to help with the over abundance of cats, including spaying and neutering them. I’ll see what information I can find and pass it onto you, but it would help if I know approx. where you are, then I can look in that region for rescue and associations other than the SPCA.

Afternoon, dear Bet. I missed your kind post by a few hrs it looks like (!). I’ve had another busy day . . . doing not so fun things. I think I mentioned that I damaged my Maverick PU. The good news is that it wasn’t damaged nearly as bad as I thought. If all goes well I’ll have it back sooner than expected. Thankfully, a good friend loaned me her 3rd car; and old, but good, Toyota.
I had thought to do a trade for a new Maverick. Went out and drove a ’26 Lariat . . . and told the salesman it all felt like home. Then they told me we could do the trade for my 5,500 mi nearly new and identical ’24 Maverick.
All I had to do was pay them $22k to complete the deal. Well that certainly made my soon-to-be-fixed ’24 look very, very good! A good friend, a former dealer, explained the sharp deprecation governing the used car business.
Bottom line—the money didn’t work at all. If I was a more conventional buyer I’d have bought that new Maverick in a minute. No wonder Mavericks are such popular trucks.
I’ve been around car people and car shops for most of my adult life. Although I’d never met the body shop manager, he was immediately familiar as one of “those guys” who really knows his stuff—I’m confident his shop will do a good job. I’m decidedly anxious to have my trusty truck (and my life) back in order ASAP . . . 🙂
WOW!!! You’ve had a busy day…I’m sorry about your practically new motor, Garrison. My husband has been an ethical member in the motor trade for decades. He always looked after his clients, and he was always honest with them as far as the money involved and trade ins. As he always said to those who were upside down in theirs cars (which I know is not your issue with yours), “I’m afraid you’re going to have to put your arms around it and love it.” And it is shocking how much a new car loses the first inch off the forecourt it goes.

The First Epistle of St. Paul to Timothy
Hitherto Paul’s epistles were directed to churches; now follow some to particular persons: two to Timothy, one to Titus, and another to Philemon-all three ministers. Timothy and Titus were evangelists, an inferior order to the apostles, as appears by Eph. 4:11, Some prophets, some apostles, some evangelists. Their commission and work was much the same with that of the apostles, to plant churches, and water the churches that were planted; and accordingly they were itinerants, as we find Timothy was. Timothy was first converted by Paul, and therefore he calls him his own son in the faith: we read of his conversion, Acts 16:3.
The scope of these two epistles is to direct Timothy how to discharge his duty as an evangelist at Ephesus, where he now was, and where Paul ordered him for some time to reside, to perfect the good work which he had begun there. As for the ordinary pastoral charge of that church, he had very solemnly committed it to the presbytery, as appears from Acts 20:28, where he charges the presbyters to feed the flock of God, which he had purchased with his own blood.

BTW, I get fascinated by how the church developed over time. You can see some of it in Paul’s letters. When he writes to early churches, we see little of the positions he writes to later. He even gives great regard to early women leaders
We see a little bit in Acts too. Christ chose Apostles yet new positions were created after Christ ascended, to fill needs as time went on.

Note, he frequently refers to Greek words which we translate in various fashion in English. Words which have come down indicating different Christian Churches. Episcopalian, Presbyterian. These small translation choices do make a difference.
And some see the changes in Paul’s writings as confirmation of their opinions that these were pseudopigrapha, written later by other people. That tends to be derived from language changes over time and supported by vocabulary changes.
Not that one person can’t use different language and vocabulary to different people or change over time. Even seen an argument that the secretaries Paul used had some license and that should explain the differences.
But my interest is that the church organization changed. And fairly rapidly, even if Bishops were after Paul. Clement of Rome, Ignatius of Antioch and Polycarp of Smyrna were all famous relatively early Bishops. The last two were disciples of the long lived Apostle John. Various lists place Clement as second or fourth Bishop of Rome after Peter.
But there is another change of leadership shown in Acts. Peter and the Apostles were supreme. But after Peter is made to flee, disputes between Peter and Paul were settled by James the Brother of Jesus, also called an Apostle by Paul. He died (62 AD) before Peter and Paul did, (64-68 AD).
There is so much that just isn’t clear about the early leadership of the church and how that developed over time. When did Rome gain supremacy? Jerusalem lost it (and everything else) in 70AD. How did James become superior to Peter? How did Peter reclaim the leadership that Christ assigned him? Was that posthumous? Why didn’t they make accurate records of these things?
Early Christians are said to have fled from Jerusalem to Pella before Jerusalem was destroyed. But no mention of continuing to lead Christianity. Also no mentions of preserving relics. But that is a different subject. The NY doesn’t describe any relic worship by early Christians, but it does describe leadership.

COMMENTARY FOR ACTS 1
This book unites the Gospels to the Epistles. It contains many particulars concerning the apostles Peter and Paul, and of the Christian church from the ascension of our Saviour to the arrival of St. Paul at Rome, a space of about thirty years. St. Luke was the writer of this book; he was present at many of the events he relates, and attended Paul to Rome. But the narrative does not afford a complete history of the church during the time to which it refers, nor even of St. Paul’s life. The object of the book has been considered to be, 1. To relate in what manner the gifts of the Holy Spirit were communicated on the day of Pentecost, and the miracles performed by the apostles, to confirm the truth of Christianity, as showing that Christ’s declarations were really fulfilled. 2. To prove the claim of the Gentiles to be admitted into the church of Christ. This is shown by much of the contents of the book. A large portion of the Acts is occupied by the discourses or sermons of various persons, the language and manner of which differ, and all of which will be found according to the persons by whom they were delivered, and the occasions on which they were spoken. It seems that most of these discourses are only the substance of what was actually delivered. They relate nevertheless fully to Jesus as the Christ, the anointed Messiah.Proofs of Christ’s resurrection. (1-5) Christ’s ascension. (6-11) The apostles unite in prayer. (12-14) Matthias chosen in the place of Judas. (15-26)
1-5 Our Lord told the disciples the work they were to do. The apostles met together at Jerusalem; Christ having ordered them not to depart thence, but to wait for the pouring out of the Holy Spirit. This would be a baptism by the Holy Ghost, giving them power to work miracles, and enlightening and sanctifying their souls. This confirms the Divine promise, and encourages us to depend upon it, that we have heard it from Christ; for in Him all the promises of God are yea and amen.
6-11 They were earnest in asking about that which their Master never had directed or encouraged them to seek. Our Lord knew that his ascension and the teaching of the Holy Spirit would soon end these expectations, and therefore only gave them a rebuke; but it is a caution to his church in all ages, to take heed of a desire of forbidden knowledge. He had given his disciples instructions for the discharge of their duty, both before his death and since his resurrection, and this knowledge is enough for a Christian. It is enough that He has engaged to give believers strength equal to their trials and services; that under the influence of the Holy Spirit they may, in one way or other, be witnesses for Christ on earth, while in heaven he manages their concerns with perfect wisdom, truth, and love. When we stand gazing and trifling, the thoughts of our Master’s second coming should quicken and awaken us: when we stand gazing and trembling, they should comfort and encourage us. May our expectation of it be stedfast and joyful, giving diligence to be found of him blameless.

WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

Spiritual warfare rising with the forces of darkness using all forms of deception, particularly deception that contains some truth but is false at its core. For truth, look to the Most High God and creator Yahweh/Jesus. Everything we are as human beings, including the morality written in our hearts & minds, and everything the earth and universe are, is created and sustained by him. He has revealed himself in many ways including coming to earth in Jesus to offer the tremendous gift of redemption and salvation. He waits and wants to further reveal himself to each of us to have a personal relationship. The ball is in each of our courts to sincerely reach out to him and accept his gift. The contrast in my life between before versus after doing so was too great to attribute to me alone or random events.
Memories are the blueprint, script, for our lives. It is our default setting. You don’t have to follow it but it’s important to remove “familiar” from your thoughts, life, and find new paths.
Would explain God putting Abraham in a foreign land. Also interesting that military families are moved all the time. I don’t know if reincarnation is a real thing but I would understand why memories would not cross over.

Not sure if this is well known, but reincarnation is not only an “Eastern” belief, and is also widely accepted by Orthodox Judaism, and is “friendly” to many Christians as well. Too wide and deep a topic to go into here, but plenty to be found by just searching.
Recent quantum ‘studies” suggest that ALL our individual memories (realities) are actually “written” to the universe. This is the truth of what actually happened – the reality. What we store locally as “memory” is a rather foggy and manipulated account of what our “brain” has interpreted.
It is believed that few righteous and worthy persons are allowed access by God to some or much of that “quantum” memory, and with that “memories” of their previous “lives”, and even future lives (time as we know it does not play a factor). Included would be the Prophets.
Come judgement day ALL our actions/words/thoughts are there, in the open on a giant screen – all 4 or 10 or 1000 or how ever many necessary life-times (chances) we are given to rectify our souls before D-day. And will also answer why, what, when, how you became and are who you are.

Southwest’s new “customer of size” policy, which takes effect Tuesday, requires plus-sized passengers who cannot fit entirely within one seat to purchase a second one. That’s regardless of whether the seat next to them is empty.
Those passengers can later request a refund for the second seat, but will only receive one if the flight is not full. Under Southwest’s old policy, plus-sized passengers could choose to purchase an extra seat, but the airline didn’t require it. And the airline would later refund the price of that extra ticket — even if all other seats on the plane were full and the refund could result in a net loss for the airline, according to an airline spokesperson.
