It is wonderful how we are given stories of real people, warts and all.
I am amused how the Wisdom of Solomon keeps getting flaunted, but how wise was it really to collect 700 wives and 300 concubines and let them worship their false gods? (How many years would it take him to make the rounds?)
And we wouldn’t have Solomon if it weren’t for David committing adultery and having her husband killed.
Well, later Biblical writers might tell us that we ALL fall short. Though murder and incest are still horrible failings.
God declares Lot righteous two times, my friend, in 2 Peter 2:8, “For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds.”
What did the Old Testament priests examine when people brought a sin sacrifice? Did they examine the people for sin? Or did they examine the lamb for spotlessness? What beautiful foreshadowing of Christ, the Lamb of God. God doesn’t examine me, he examines my Lamb, finds Him perfect and declares me righteous.
2 Corinthians 5:21, “For He hath made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.” What indescribably good news!

Biography: Edmund Halleys’ reputation mainly rests on his discovery of the orbit of Halley’s Comet, named after him but he was widely involved in a number of scientific endeavors.
Halley was educated at Queens’ College, Oxford where he was influenced by the work of Astronomer Royal John Flamsteed’s work to catalog the starts of the northern hemisphere.
In 1676 Halley began a voyage to St Helena in the southern hemisphere and had cataloged more than 300 stars by his return in 1678, publishing it later that year. As a result he was elected a fellow of the Royal Society.
Halley was instrumental in bringing Issac Newton’s discoveries on planetary motion to publication, editing and overseeing the printing of Newton’s “Principia” in 1687.
IN 1705 Halley published his own work A Synopsis of the Astronomy of Comets, in which he detailed the orbits of known comets and made the case that 3 were actually the same comet returning. He also successfully predicted its return in 1758.
In 1720 Halley was appointed Astronomer Royal at Greenwich.

Dear Friend,
If you think our nation is in trouble now, just wait… As our streets boil over with hate, anger, crime, drugs, and just sheer hopelessness, is there something we can do? You bet there is.
I would like to call for a time of prayer and repentance this Wednesday, January 14, at 12:00 noon.
As a nation our sins are so great. We have increasingly turned our backs on God and His commands, embracing godless secularism. We need to ask His forgiveness and seek His face.
Pray for our leaders, and pray that God would bring calm to our streets.
There are many who would like to stir things up—there are even those who would like to destroy this great country. Pray that these efforts would be thwarted and their plans would be brought into confusion.
Ask God to use His Church to be His instruments of peace in this time of great uncertainty.
Remember, this Wednesday at noon, please stop and pray. Millions of people remembering our sins and asking for forgiveness, repenting, and seeking His face will make a difference.
Let’s humble ourselves. Let’s give God the glory for this great nation and thank Him for His hand of blessing, protection, and mercy.

Running across a weird Canadian isn’t unusual, but finding one who holds a deep religious conviction that mowing grass is “violence” might take the cake.
For years, the city of Burlington has tried to outlaw her garden — even mowing it down despite her strenuous objections.
Now the city is taking Barnes to court for violating local bylaws, a move which could leave her on the hook for as much as $400,000 in fines, according to her lawyer.
But Barnes is fighting back, saying the city’s actions have violated her constitutional rights to freedom of expression — and religion.
Though it sounds like a simple civil case, deeper inspection reveals that ol’ Karen is, in fact, a loon.
As an animist — someone whose religious beliefs ‘recognizes personhood and intrinsic value in all life forms,’ according to an affidavit she filed as part of the city’s case against her — Barnes also began to see mowing as violence.
‘As I started to implement the natural garden, I formed relationships with the plants who grew there, and felt that it would be sacrilegious to harm them,’ her affidavit said.
“Though it sounds like a simple civil case, deeper inspection reveals that ol’ Karen is, in fact, a loon.”
That sentence should win an internet prize.
Actually, I get where the “loon” is coming from. She is correct, but partially “off course” with her interpretation and implementation. If we accept that ALL of creation is and by God – in fact a “part of God” – ourselves and all living creatures, including plants included, then it follows that the wilfully negligent or unnecessary “killing” (destruction) of any of that “part of God” is not good.
Verse 2:15 in Genesis clearly spells out our role as the top “dog” and what is expected of us –
“And the Lord God took the man whom he had formed, and placed him in the garden of Delight, to cultivate and keep it.”
Where she has erred in her understanding is in order to “cultivate” and “keep it”, it is necessary to manage it. This will entail clearing and order, so that the true potential beauty can be exposed.
If it makes her feel better, before mowing say a prayer of thanks that God has provided us with such a plant, and that the “sacrifice” (cutting) is not harming, but elevating those “chosen” in order to bring out a much greater good/beauty.
I recall I heard somewhere that followers of the Jain religion don’t even walk on grass for fear of harming it. I checked Wikipedia (they’re ok for some things) and scanned their article on Jainism, where I didn’t find that but I found that Jain followers use threads on a stick to gently move ants and bugs out of their way.

WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

Prayer for Serenity 1: When Things Seem Out of Control
You did everything you could to assure a positive outcome, but it didn’t turn out the way you wanted or expected. We’ve all been there. It tests our faith. Maybe you accept the outcome or maybe you’re frustrated. God wants to help you put the situation into perspective and remember that he is always in control of every situation—even those you so desperately want to control.
Dear Lord, It feels like everything is out of control in my life right now. I know good things are happening too but the stress is overshadowing them. I wanted a better answer, things to change, but my hopes are dashed. Many people try to comfort me by saying that you’re in control, but it doesn’t bring me comfort. It seems condescending.
Lord, I want to understand and discern the plans you have for me. Father, restore my faith as I trust that you’re omniscient and I’m not. Envelope me with your peaceful balm to soothe my questioning mind. Remind me that you hold the whole world in your hands and all things work for good to those who believe in you. I do believe! Amen
Prayer for Serenity 2: When Anxiety Overtakes Rationality
God didn’t create doubt, anxiety, or worry. Satan did to rob us of our joy, peace, and sleep. God knows common sense can flee when we’re under stress, so he gave us a remedy when we experience mind hijackers: “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). Charles Spurgeon advised that, “Our anxiety does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows, but only empties today of its strength.”
Lord, you know how irrational I can become when I’m anxious. I can’t reign in my thoughts. Instead of expecting the best, I worry and wonder. I fret. My stomach churns, my heart races, and I can’t take my mind off the issue. I know you don’t want me living in a constant state of turmoil. It’s not good for my physical or mental health. It makes people around me miserable and keeps me living in a perpetual state of chaos instead of calmness, which I crave.
Father, you tell me in your Word to cast all my anxiety on you and so I’m doing that in this prayer. I lay at your feet the things I’m struggling with and I implore you Lord to free my mind of concerns. Remind me please to take deep breaths and trust that you can make a way even when the path is not visible to me. Father, please lead me to refreshing Scriptures when I feel anxiety approaching. Holy Spirit fill me with the serene peace and joy of the Lord. Amen
