This was the part of the discussion that had me thinking “Alito is trying to get this woman canceled and potentially killed by the left.”
Actually he was just pulling her chain on the complete illogic of her position, but she also had to be extremely careful how she answered.
I feel sorry for her client, who unsurprisingly according to his attorney appears to not be doing well, regrets becoming the plaintiff, and I guess tried to withdraw the case. I hope he gets the help he needs to pull out of the pit a viper’s nest of truly evil people brainwashed him into. May he recover and prosper in life.
The summary feeling by the end of the arguments was basically “what a mess.”
I have to think no one on the Court really wants to touch this with a ten foot pole.” I suspect the push will be to not issue a decision but declare that the court took up the matter improvidently and to allow it to be dismissed as withdrawn or moot.
I doubt the conservatives will allow that move, but they will be tempted by it, probably.
Also, the sentence after “I would respect their self – identity in addressing the person” was something like,
“But a biological man who had taken no measures to mitigate the biological advantage from testosterone would not be a woman for the purposes of playing in women’s sports.”
She did give a more complete answer.
She kept relying on the idea that he “mitigated” his advantage. The Justices did not press as to precisely how much mitigation would be enough, but they did get into the vast scientific uncertainty of this whole area.
Counsel for Idaho on closing pointed out the hundreds of real women who have been denied medals in the past few years, as well as the case of one man whose race times changed not at all after he began taking female hormones. So much for “mitigation.”
Any decision that requires courts to weigh in on how much “mitigation” makes a man into a “woman” is a recipe for endless litigation and clogged courts.

And the other bright line is even worse though no one said so (Kagan was sort of going for this one). – “transition” before puberty, so no “unfair testosterone advantage”
That would be a standard that would result in an incentive for irreversible body damage to be done before a child has even reached a stage of brain and intellectual development that would allow the child to appreciate the consequences.
As has been written, if you think you are the opposite sex starting around 18, you are mentally ill. If you think you are the opposite sex at age 7, it is your parents who are mentally ill.

If there is something likely to emerge from this case, it is that SCOTUS will clearly decide what standard of scrutiny applies to state laws barring transgender persons from participating in women’s sports – rational basis scrutiny (almost always the statute is valid absent proof or irrationality or clear animus), intermediate scrutiny because it involves discrimination on the basis of gender, or something approaching strict scrutiny (SCOTUS will definitely not go all the way there)?
If it is “intermediate scrutiny” then what are the parameters and how do you come up with a definable class of protected persons under the Equal Protection clause if you admit the reality of biological advantage? Pin it to no puberty? Pin in to 5 years on hormone blockers and a reduction by 50 percent of pre-existing upper arm strength?
Not easy.
The most obvious answer is a man is a man, so rational basis scrutiny applies.
I believe Mr.Alito’s intention was to make it clear how crazy this all is now.

The woman killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent in Minneapolis last week served on the board of her son’s school, as one of three parents on the board of the Southside Family Charter School, which linked to documents encouraging parents to monitor ICE and directing them to training.
One of the documents linked by the school appears to be a message to parents dated December 16 that begins, “Thank you to families who have been on ICE watch, helping to protect their neighbors.”
The note links to a separate training document with guides on getting whistles to alert neighbors to ICE raids and contact information for a school parent offering “noncooperation training.”
“ICE are untrained bullies looking for easy targets. Neighbors showing up have saved lives,” that training document reads.
Another guide linked to in the training document stresses nonviolent responses to ICE agents, while also encouraging a refusal to “comply with demands, requests, and orders.” It suggests “creative tactics,” noting that “Crowds, props, traffic, and noise can make detentions difficult, sometimes ICE vehicles can’t move (‘whoops!’).” It does not specifically suggest blocking operations with a vehicle.

He conducted a Twitter poll regarding something to do with black people and after the results he stated that black people hate white people, stay away… it was a hyperbolic statement and he got cancelled all over the place.

An example is Iran. The clerics have spent billions funding jihadists all over the Middle East. The simple reality is we as a country are safer if they are no longer able to do that. The main reason is we are their number one target and stopping them decreases their chances of attacking our interests in the M.E. and here.
We took out the nuclear threat. That increased our security. Now, the people of Iran taking their country back is another opportunity. By supporting them we help reduce a future threat to us. A free Iran is also in our interests. Based on their cultural history, they will be a voice promoting freedom in the M.E.
The point is that in our world situations are typically not all black or all white. Doing “America First” sometimes means we get involved with other countries.
Another example is Greenland. Another example is using tariffs. Another example is helping to stop the Ukraine war because it uselessly eats resources that could better be used other ways.
It’s childish to try and solve complex problems by thinking in rigid black and white categories.

May I add that before the 1979 coup in Iran, Iran was a close and valuable ally of the United States.
Their military trained here and many of their students were educated here.
If Iran could get back to being a Constitutional Monarchy for at least a few years (assuming the Monarchy is a transitional form of government) that would allow the state of Iran to be an anchor for stability in the Middle East.
That stability would carry over into the rest of the world.
Iran needs to start somewhere because at the rate they’ve been going, I’d hate to see what it would turn into if things don’t change for the better quickly.

You can buy a container of 20 uncirculated for a minimal mark up. Or buy one or more. There are reputable dealers online. The coins are easier to liquidate.
For instance. Mt Vernon coins of Annapolis Md have a good reputation. In the search, just type in
“Silver Eagle”. You can find 2025 and earlier uncirculated reasonably.
