George S. Patton
(1885-1945)

American WWII general (Sicily, Italy and Normandy) known as “Old Blood & Guts”, dies of congestive heart failure at 60

Biography: George S. Patton played a significant role in World War II. He is best known for his leadership of the United States’ Third Army in 1944, during which he led a successful armored drive across France and into Nazi Germany. Patton’s aggressive tactics and skill in mobile warfare contributed to the Allied victory.

Born in 1885, Patton graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1909. He competed in the modern pentathlon at the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm. During World War I, Patton served in the newly formed Tank Corps, where he developed his expertise in armored warfare.

In World War II, Patton commanded the Western Task Force during Operation Torch, the Allied invasion of North Africa in 1942. He later led the U.S. Seventh Army during the invasion of Sicily in 1943. During this campaign, Patton was temporarily removed from command after slapping two soldiers suffering from combat stress, an incident that nearly ended his career.

Patton was reinstated in 1944 to lead the Third Army in France following the D-Day invasion. His forces advanced rapidly across France, relieving the besieged city of Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge. Patton’s Third Army continued into Germany, covering more ground in less time than any other army in history.

After the war, Patton was involved in a car accident in Germany and died from his injuries in December 1945. His legacy as a military leader was later popularized by the 1970 film “Patton,” starring George C. Scott.

I was recently speaking with
A friend outside of healthcare
And he offered an observation
That stopped me in my tracks.

He wasn’t criticizing doctors
He was seeing us.

Because sometimes it takes
Someone who isn’t a physician
Someone not conditioned by the system
To help physicians understand
Who they’ve been asked to become.

What he saw immediately was this:
Physician resistance isn’t absent
It’s suppressed.

Here’s how that suppression actually works:

1. Doctors are trained to endure, not challenge.
From pre‑med onward
Suffering is framed as virtue
Silence becomes professionalism
Questioning authority feels like
Personal failure instead of leadership.

2. Debt quietly removes bargaining power.
By the end of training
Many physicians carry
$250K–$500K+ in debt
When financial survival is fragile
Resistance becomes a luxury.

3. Liability without authority is normalized.
Physicians carry the clinical risk
Administrators control
Staffing, schedules, and throughput
When systems fail
The doctor absorbs the blame.

4. Fragmentation keeps physicians isolated.
By specialty
By contract
By hospital
No unified voice
Everyone individually replaceable.

5. Morality is weaponized.
Pushback is framed as harming patients
Because physicians care deeply
This pressure works.

6. Business literacy is withheld.
Doctors are trained in
Physiology, not economics
When value is invisible
Exploitation is difficult to name.

7. Identity becomes the final lock.
Medicine isn’t just a profession
It’s identity
Resistance feels like betrayal.

But here’s the part my friend
Helped me see most clearly:

Physicians were never meant to be
Silent functionaries of a system
They were meant to be stewards of
Care, truth, and human dignity.

The outcome of ignoring that truth?

Burnout instead of rebellion
Silence instead of solidarity
Exit instead of reform.

A system that breaks its healers
Will eventually fail its patients.

This isn’t about blaming physicians.
It’s about recognizing a structure
That no longer serves anyone
Except the incentives keeping it intact.

Yesterday I posted about plastic verses paper bags. There is another very common thing that is a serious problem for our wildlife and in particular marine life.

Those plastic six pack rings. You find them on cans and plastic bottles of soda. Every closed loop in one of those things is a threat to wildlife. I keep a pair of scissors right on top of my garage refrigerator and when I load the soda into the fridge I take the cans or bottles out of that thing and make sure every loop is cut through before it goes in the trash.

Today it’s not an update. It’s an alert! Sometimes one needs an exterior point of view to help to see the obvious which is not so obvious.
No update is more important than what I am alerting now. There is no greater danger than the Liberal Progressive Islamist Alliance, and now we see some Conservatives joining it too. It’s a multiplication of evil power. I am going to bombard you with some videos. The videos will make the point better than my talk.

A little American history:

What event resulted in the United States being recognized as a power to be reckoned with by the European Nations and others?

My own answer would be the War of 1812 because in that war the US forced the nation with the most powerful military on earth, with an Army that defeated Napoleon once and for all and a 600 ship Navy, to come to a negotiated settlement which secured all the objectives the US had gone to war to secure.

But Americans of the generations during that war and for more than a century afterwards had an even more specific answer: 

At the 1912 annual meeting of the American Historical Association, held that year in Boston, one of America’s preeminent historians, Charles Francis Adams, the great-grandson of John Adams, gave the keynote address to an audience of distinguished academics and public officials, including former President Theodore Roosevelt, who was now president of the Association. 

Adams theme was the widely discussed-and controversial- issue of whether the United States was a “world power” and, if so, when did she become one. He answered in the affirmative, and gave the moment of her rise to preeminence:

” I propose to specify the exact day of the year and month, and week, the hour and almost the minute at which the United States blazed as an indisputable world power on ht astonished, and, for time yet, incredulous nations.  

To be specific, it was at thirty minutes after six o’clock of the afternoon of Wednesday, August 19, 1812……….”

What happened at that time? Even though it had been more than a century before, every single person at the meeting knew what Adams was referring to.

My point is not to argue weather Adams was correct of not as to that being the exact time of the US becoming recognized as a power to be reckoned with. It is just to point out just how important that event was to prominent students of history even more than a century after it happened.

This kind of history simply is not taught today.

I have a confession to make.
I’ve been leaf-peeping in your branches for the last 2+ years. At times this place has been a true Refuge for me.
During this time my husband has had multiple surgeries with long recoveries and physical therapy. I am his sole care giver. Gus is 68 and I am 74. I am blessed and fortunate to be as tough and strong as an old mule and able to be his care giver. But it is hard. Throw in chronic insomnia. Sometimes this Treehouse was the only thing I had to look forward to at the end of an exhausting day. I’ve never posted anything anywhere on any open thread but I just had to tell you how wonderful you all are. Your intelligence, wit, and caring for one another is something to see. You have no idea what you have meant to me and I thank each and every one of you. I wish every wonderful thing for you and yours. Always.

COMMENTARY FOR JOHN 3

Christ’s discourse with Nicodemus. (1-21) The baptism of John of Christ John’s testimony. (22-36)

1-8 Nicodemus was afraid, or ashamed to be seen with Christ, therefore came in the night. When religion is out of fashion, there are many Nicodemites. But though he came by night, Jesus bid him welcome, and hereby taught us to encourage good beginnings, although weak. And though now he came by night, yet afterward he owned Christ publicly. He did not talk with Christ about state affairs, though he was a ruler, but about the concerns of his own soul and its salvation, and went at once to them. Our Saviour spoke of the necessity and nature of regeneration or the new birth, and at once directed Nicodemus to the source of holiness of the heart. Birth is the beginning of life; to be born again, is to begin to live anew, as those who have lived much amiss, or to little purpose. We must have a new nature, new principles, new affections, new aims. By our first birth we were corrupt, shapen in sin; therefore we must be made new creatures. No stronger expression could have been chosen to signify a great and most remarkable change of state and character. We must be entirely different from what we were before, as that which begins to be at any time, is not, and cannot be the same with that which was before. This new birth is from heaven, ch. #1:13|, and its tendency is to heaven. It is a great change made in the heart of a sinner, by the power of the Holy Spirit. It means that something is done in us, and for us, which we cannot do for ourselves.

Something is wrong, whereby such a life begins as shall last for ever. We cannot otherwise expect any benefit by Christ; it is necessary to our happiness here and hereafter. What Christ speak, Nicodemus misunderstood, as if there had been no other way of regenerating and new-moulding an immortal soul, than by new-framing the body. But he acknowledged his ignorance, which shows a desire to be better informed.

WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD

Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.

I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.

Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.

With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me. 

Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.
