Biography: Waller was one of the most popular African-American jazz pianists of the 1930s. He began performing as an organist for silent movies, moving on to the piano for club dates and Broadway shows. His longstanding band “His Rhythm” were early successes from the infancy of recording in the mid 1920s and continued through to his death in the early 1940s. His energy and spontaneity and the band’s continuity resulted in many one-take recordings which were both popular and profitable.
In addition to his music, Waller earned fame as a comedic radio performer on shows such as the “Rhythm Club”, and was starting to transition to film when he passed away.
Recognition for his contributions continued long after his early death.
His jazz hits include now standards “Ain’t Misbehavin'”, “Honeysuckle Rose”, and “Squeeze Me”. The first two of which were inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
The 1977 cult film “Eraserhead” by David Lynch featured Waller’s rare jazz on pipe organ recordings. A long-running Broadway revue “Ain’t Misbehavin'” debuted in 1978, winning several Tony Awards, and Emmy Award; the 1988 revival won a Grammy Award.
Waller was inducted into The Songwriter’s Hall of Fame in 1970; The Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame in 1989; and awarded a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1993.

Biography: The best-selling recording artist from 1939 to 1943, leading his self-titled band the “Glenn Miller Orchestra”. He also played the trombone and made many of the band’s arrangements.
Miller’s hits include “In the Mood”, “Pennsylvania 6-5000”, “Chattanooga Choo Choo”, “A String of Pearls” and “Little Brown Jug”.
He disappeared in 1944 in bad weather over the English Channel while traveling to entertain allied troops in France during World War II in a plane crash. His body was never found.
In 2014, long overlooked military documents were discovered which indicate Miller’s plane probably crashed in the English Channel after its fuel intakes froze.

Disney, who was born in 1901 Chicago, always had an interest in drawing. This led to early work as a commercial illustrator before Disney eventually moved to California and, with his brother Ron, set up the Disney Brothers Studio.
The character of Mickey Mouse was developed in 1928 with Ub Iwerks at the Disney Brothers Studio. This character was their first popular success, which led to more and more ambitious productions: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), Pinocchio (1940), Fantasia (1940), Dumbo (1941), Bambi (1942).
On the back of this success, Disney would later expand his business into amusement parks by opening Disneyland in 1955 at Anaheim, California.
Another American classic, whose legacy was left in the hands of people of stunted vision and almost non-existent creativity.

Good Monday morning all!
All of the models show it getting warm and staying warm well into January. Joe Bastardi says he doesn’t think that’s going to happen and shows why in Saturday Summary.
I’m going with Joe and his idea that we see another blast of cold during the first two weeks of January. As I’ve pointed out before the Models just don’t see cold! They’re all biased to show warm and they usually they don’t “see” the cold until it’s almost upon us and when they do they almost always underplay it until about three days before it arrives.
But anyway, we here are enjoying the 6″ of very fine powder we got here. It came in about 11:30 and kept snowing pretty much until 9 PM. It was horizontal snow driven the whole time by a West wind of 6 to 12 mph. Unusual for us to such a fine powder snow here in Central Indiana these days.
Anyway this snow did something that many parents have a hard to doing. It pulled their kids away from their digital worlds on the computers and smart phones and got them outside enjoying the wonders of nature. I was out and about yesterday in the FJ and noticed that the sledding hills at Grandview Golf course that I frequented as a kid, had plenty of business despite the fact it didn’t get above 8 deg. at any time yesterday.

Over the years I have had many discussions with Aussies and Brits defending our 2nd amendment. The way I see it the majority of them like being disarmed and feel a moral superiority because they are disarmed. They believe their societies are safer and and more civilized than ours because they’re without firearms.
So the tragic fact is they’re getting what they’ve voted for. A state where only the police are armed and where they must rely on the police for protection. That is unless your lucky enough to have a guy that will charge an armed guy and disarm him because the three police officers in the vicinity are busy taking cover and feel no obligation to put their lives on the line protecting the flock of sheep they have sworn to defend.

Good morning it’s 3 .7 deg here at my place in central Indiana according to my home weather station. Time to feed the birds. They sure go through the seed when it’s this cold.
Yesterday a big ole Red Tail Hawk swooped in a picked off a Morning Dove. I don’t know why those Doves make themselves such easy targets? All the other birds will fly away but the Doves just sit there asking for it. Thankfully the Hawk flew away with it’s prize and Sherry didn’t have to watch it dining. That really upsets her. I’m not exactly happy about it, but Hawks gotta eat too!
53° presently, but a high of 80° expected this afternoon. So far, December has been 15° above normal – no complaints from me – wish I could send some of this warmth to you folks.

We have several watering troughs situated around our place for animals needing a drink. The blackbirds use them to wash their prey, and then they leave the bones. The first (and only) time I emptied a trough, it made me cry, so – not my job anymore!

COMMENTARY FOR PSALMS 95
An exhortation to praise God. (1-7) A warning not to tempt Him. (7-11)
1-7 Whenever we come into God’s presence, we must come with thanksgiving. The Lord is to be praised; we do not want matter, it were well if we did not want a heart. How great is that God, whose the whole earth is, and the fulness thereof; who directs and disposes of all!, The Lord Jesus, whom we are here taught to praise, is a great God; the mighty God is one of his titles, and God over all, blessed for evermore. To him all power is given, both in heaven and earth. He is our God, and we should praise him. He is our Saviour, and the Author of our blessedness. The gospel church is his flock, Christ is the great and good Shepherd of believers; he sought them when lost, and brought them to his fold.
7-11 Christ calls upon his people to hear his voice. You call him Master, or Lord; then be his willing, obedient people. Hear the voice of his doctrine, of his law, and in both, of his Spirit: hear and heed; hear and yield. Christ’s voice must be heard to-day. This day of opportunity will not last always; improve it while it is called to-day. Hearing the voice of Christ is the same with believing. Hardness of heart is at the bottom of all distrust of the Lord. The sins of others ought to be warnings to us not to tread in their steps. The murmurings of Israel were written for our admonition. God is not subject to such passions as we are; but he is very angry at sin and sinners. That certainly is evil, which deserves such a recompence; and his threatenings are as sure as his promises. Let us be aware of the evils of our hearts, which lead us to wander from the Lord. There is a rest ordained for believers, the rest of everlasting refreshment, begun in this life, and perfected in the life to come. This is the rest which God calls his rest.

WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

Am I noticing a trend of posters who attempt to use Christianity and claim a moral/religious authority to post their usually wedge type comments?

Not sure if you are referring to a post of mine – not paranoid, but it did follow a pic of President Trump I posted. So….I hope it is just you.
You are a “regular” here and most likely have noted that I answer Ms Idaho each day with a patriotic meme. Nothing more to it than that.
Though I consider myself Christian, I grew up without that type of education. These days, I read a bit of the Bible each day. Belive me, I am in infancy as a Christian. Would Never presume to chime in regarding Christian theology. I have no ulterior motive.
I always appreciate your well thought out educated posts and consider you a friend in the Treehouse. ❤️
I’m with you 100 percent. While there is lots of negative ‘stuff’, I strive to post only positive thoughts and ideas.
We can let everybody else who is so inclined post religious and political commentary.

We are following along a similar track, monti. I’m very much aware of self-proclaimed “conservatives” who appear to be more influenced by what some observers are referring to as another form of “wokeism”. Woke conservatism tends toward an anti-Trump revanchism . I am not. I have a feeling that those folks won’t find much of a woke audience here no the Open Thread.

While i do not ALWAYS agree with our President… he is doing so much better than i could do at an almost impossible task.
I give our President full credit for courage and honesty and intelligent observations, all qualities that are so rare.
The yes, but” people annoy me the same way I get annoyed when I have done my best over all obstacles, and all someone nearby can do is look for ways to criticize. Makes me want to say nasty words
