Biography: Mildred Rinker was raised in a musical family on the Coeur d’Alene Reservation, Idaho. Her mother was a tribe member. When her mother died, her father remarried, and Mildred moved to Seattle to live with an aunt. She worked as a song demonstrator in a department store there. She married briefly, and divorced her husband, but keeping the name Bailey.
She sang professionally on the west coast, and promoted her bother Al Rinker, and his group The Rhythm Cats featuring his friend Bing Crosby. Crosby later returned the favor, introducing her to Paul Whiteman. Bailey became the first female big band singer, featured in Whiteman’s orchestra from 1929-32. Their recordings of “Georgia on My Mind” and “Rockin’ Chair” are especially noteworthy.
In 1933, she married xylophonist Red Norvo. Known as ‘Mr. and Mrs. Swing’, she was the primary vocalist on his recordings through 1945. They had 2 number one hits – “Please Be Kind” and “Says My Heart”.
She retired in 1949 due to health issues. In 1989 she was inducted into the Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame and in 1994 she was featured on a US postal stamp.

I saw Tina Turner perform in Luxembourg in the mid ’90s – she was in her mid-late 50s and still an absolute dynamo on stage. I get thrill bumps all over just remembering that experience.

COMMENTARY FOR PHILIPPIANS 4
The apostle exhorts the Philippians to stand fast in the Lord. (1) Gives directions to some, and to all in general. (2-9) Expresses contentment in every condition of life. (10-19) He concludes with prayer to God the Father, and his usual blessing. (20-23)
1 The believing hope and prospect of eternal life, should make us steady and constant in our Christian course. There is difference of gifts and graces, yet, being renewed by the same Spirit, we are brethren. To stand fast in the Lord, is to stand fast in his strength, and by his grace.
10-19 It is a good work to succour and help a good minister in trouble. The nature of true Christian sympathy, is not only to feel concern for our friends in their troubles, but to do what we can to help them. The apostle was often in bonds, imprisonments, and necessities; but in all, he learned to be content, to bring his mind to his condition, and make the best of it. Pride, unbelief, vain hankering after something we have not got, and fickle disrelish of present things, make men discontented even under favourable circumstances. Let us pray for patient submission and hope when we are abased; for humility and a heavenly mind when exalted. It is a special grace to have an equal temper of mind always. And in a low state not to lose our comfort in God, nor distrust his providence, nor take any wrong course for our own supply. In a prosperous condition not to be proud, or secure, or worldly. This is a harder lesson than the other; for the temptations of fulness and prosperity are more than those of affliction and want. The apostle had no design to urge them to give more, but to encourage such kindness as will meet a glorious reward hereafter. Through Christ we have grace to do what is good, and through him we must expect the reward; and as we have all things by him, let us do all things for him, and to his glory.

WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

Since I am not able to even carry a tune in a bucket – nor can I play a musical instrument, daily I am humbled by the music presented by Wonderful Treepers..
That said, may I present some music for your Friday?
The song is ‘The Carol of the Birds’. This from Wikipedia:
“El cant dels ocells” (Catalan: [əl ˈkan dəlz uˈseʎs], ‘The Song of the Birds’) is a traditional Catalan Christmas song and lullaby. It tells of nature’s joy at learning of the birth of Jesus Christ in a stable in Bethlehem.[1] The song was made famous outside Catalonia by Pablo Casals’ instrumental version on the cello.[2] After his exile in 1939, he began each of his concerts by playing this song. If memory serves, my brother and I gave Mom the Robert Shaw LP for Christmas. Can it really have been 1952?
The Carol of the Birds has haunted me every Christmas since. I went on a quest. While the melody is haunting, I wanted the words. As in the Video:
When in the eastern skies
The wondrous star did rise
And fill the night with splendor
Came birds in joyful throng
To sound their dainty song
In a carol sweet and tender
Hosanna to the child
And to his mother mild
Full revently to render
The kingly eagle came
To praise his holy name

These words are not the literal translation. I noticed something about the ‘sung poem’. The first 2 lines of a stanza rhyme. And every 2 stanzas the last word rhymes with the last one above.
The way the singers ‘sing’ the words and ‘echo’ the main theme is haunting.
I found that many singers and musicians have performed this song (Joan Baez, Manheim Steamroller). Pablo Casals is said to have made it famous. I hope you will like this cello version too.

The vast majority of ‘adoptions’ & adopted children also fill this *Human trafficking/trafficked* category.
The depth of the grief – and all that grief entails – over the loss of these vital Human experiences & needs, and all the maladaptations & deviation that results, is overlooked, ignored, denied, &/or weaponized against these children… when they don’t seem “normal” due to chronic grief & unmet Human needs.
Someone very wise once said “We become Human at our Mother’s breast.” (~?)
What becomes of those who were/are denied that deeply fundamental Human-developmental experience?
All manner of maladaptive-to-life response, that’s what.
Almighty God, we give you thanks for surrounding us, as daylight fades, with the brightness of the vesper light; and we implore you of your great mercy that, as you enfold us with the radiance of this light, so you would shine into our hearts the brightness of your Holy Spirit; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Grant us, Lord, the lamp of charity which never fails, that it may burn in us and shed its light on those around us, and that by its brightness we may have a vision of that holy City, where dwells the true and never-failing Light, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
