Very interesting points. One would have thought that the ships in open sea would have been safer – but not so.
Let’s say that the U.S. detected the Japanese. They would have deployed the fleet to protect the base and to prevent them being sitting ducks.
The three Fleet Carriers in the Pacific were dispersed on missions. The Lexington on the way to Midway to deliver aircraft. Saratoga being refitted at San Diego. The closest was the Enterprise coming back to Pearl from delivering aircraft to Wake island.
It is unlikely Enterprise could have made it in time to be with the fleet before the attack. So the only air cover would have had to come from the fields in Hawaii.

Thanks for posting this, nim. This is an instructive video. This guy is experiencing a social psychological phenomenon called “ethnocentrism”. He’s in a country where nothing is familiar, he’s alienated, angry, and as we listen to the conversation, it is clear that he’s creating a reason to shoot someone.
The cops are well clued in to this and act accordingly.
The question I have is what we do if we encounter a guy doing this? I think it makes sense to be armed because the cops probably won’t be around if it happens to us. Fortunately being armed is legal in Texas. I don’t want to have to defend myself. But we now have guys like this walking around on our streets. Seeing this makes me glad I live where I live.

That strategy of one cop on either side of the car is a good one, once backup arrives
I made a right turn across two lanes—right in front of a cop. Lights came on. I pulled into a gas station entrance. Sunroof open, interior lights on, windows down, both hands visible on the steering wheel . . . one cop was on the passenger side, one on my side doing the talking.
Both cops immediately saw I’d made it easy for them to see into the interior from outside. I could tell that they
both relaxed from what could have been a threatening moment. I think that influenced them to let this old guy go on my way . . . Lesson learned.
In the video the guy states that he is armed but then he keeps moving his hands all while denying he was doing anything wrong. This is a dead give-away for impending trouble. The street-smart cops were not impressed.

Same feeling here in the NE. Colder than the average December that I can ever remember.
It is looking like one wave of Arctic air after another with a little break in between each one. This is likely to continue until the Western Pacific Oscillation goes positive and the trough sitting off the coast of Alaska that is directing the jet stream to carry waves of Arctic air down into the US collapses.
There are climatic factors at play also.
The Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation has peaked and is sliding down towards neutral. Last time it below neutral is when we that are older remember having the snowy cold winters. Still years until it bottoms out but we’re headed the direction that indicates that N. America will have increasingly colder and snowier winters.
A cold winter so far here in Pa. Had to keep downstairs wood stove and upstairs wood stove going. Thank the Lord I live in the woods and my husband cut and split a lot of dead trees this summer. We are ready for a cold winter. Three dogs and four cats all laying around stove enjoying the heat.
Coldest week during the winter usually comes in late January or early February. I suspect it will be exceptionally cold then too, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Um, sorry the weather there is so cold. Here it hasn’t frozen for a week and isn’t expected to freeze for the next week, but it’s going to rain nonstop. This is too mild weather for December.
I used to live in WI, I’m familiar with 2 week stretches of -20 for lows and 0 for highs. I like it here. (top half of ID) I have a son in WI, he’s freezing.

Biography: Chuck Yeager was a United States Air Force officer, flying ace, and test pilot. He was the first pilot to exceed the speed of sound in level flight, a feat which he achieved in October 1947.
During World War II, Yeager fought as a P-51 Mustang fighter pilot on the Western Front. He shot down 11.5 enemy planes, as well achieving the feat of an “ace in a day” after taking out five enemy aircraft in a single mission.
After his combat career, Yeager went on to work as a test pilot. He flew a number of advanced experimental airplanes, including the Bell X-1, with which he broke various speed and altitude records.

COMMENTARY FOR PSALMS 1
David was the penman of most of the psalms, but some evidently were composed by other writers, and the writers of some are doubtful. But all were written by the inspiration of the Holy Ghost; and no part of the Old Testament is more frequently quoted or referred to in the New. Every psalm either points directly to Christ, in his person, his character, and offices; or may lead the believer’s thoughts to Him. And the psalms are the language of the believer’s heart, whether mourning for sin, thirsting after God, or rejoicing in Him. Whether burdened with affliction, struggling with temptation, or triumphing in the hope or enjoyment of deliverance; whether admiring the Divine perfections, thanking God for his mercies, mediating on his truths, or delighting in his service; they form a Divinely appointed standard of experience, by which we may judge ourselves. Their value, in this view, is very great, and the use of them will increase with the growth of the power of true religion in the heart. By the psalmist’s expressions, the Spirit helps us to pray. If we make the psalms familiar to us, whatever we have to ask at the throne of grace, by way of confession, petition, or thanksgiving, we may be assisted from thence. Whatever devout affection is working in us, holy desire or hope, sorrow or joy, we may here find words to clothe it; sound speech which cannot be condemned. In the language of this Divine book, the prayers and praises of the church have been offered up to the throne of grace from age to age.

1-3 To meditate in God’s word, is to discourse with ourselves concerning the great things contained in it, with close application of mind and fixedness of thought. We must have constant regard to the word of God, as the rule of our actions, and the spring of our comforts; and have it in our thoughts night and day. For this purpose no time is amiss.
4-6 The ungodly are the reverse of the righteous, both in character and condition. The ungodly are not so, ver. 4; they are led by the counsel of the wicked, in the way of sinners, to the seat of the scornful; they have no delight in the law of God; they bring forth no fruit but what is evil. The righteous are like useful, fruitful trees: the ungodly are like the chaff which the wind drives away: the dust which the owner of the floor desires to have driven away, as not being of any use. They are of no worth in God’s account, how highly soever they may value themselves. They are easily driven to and fro by every wind of temptation. The chaff may be, for a while, among the wheat, but He is coming, whose fan is in his hand, and who will thoroughly purge his floor. Those that, by their own sin and folly, make themselves as chaff, will be found so before the whirlwind and fire of Divine wrath. The doom of the ungodly is fixed, but whenever the sinner becomes sensible of this guilt and misery, he may be admitted into the company of the righteous by Christ the living way, and become in Christ a new creature. He has new desires, new pleasures, hopes, fears, sorrows, companions, and employments. His thoughts, words, and actions are changed. He enters on a new state, and bears a new character. Behold, all things are become new by Divine grace, which changes his soul into the image of the Redeemer. How different the character and end of the ungodly!

Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

Not being a student of the Bible but always willing and eager to learn more, I came across these passages posted on a site elsewhere and was so surprised that homosexuality and perversions of sex were addressed so thoroughly in the Bible in just this one place. I did not go check to see if these are indeed legitimately passages in the Bible, but the message is very clear. I have never heard or seen a reference to these passages and I wonder why. It is so very simple what God said about this.
