I still have difficulty wrapping my brain around the fact that the light I’m experiencing from the sun “started out” 8 minutes prior!
Light reflected by Saturn takes 67 to 90 minutes to reach earth depending on the relative position of the two planets.
When you look at the Red Giant Betelgeuse your seeing it as it was approx. 650 years ago! About that long after it goes Supernova it will appear as bright, if not brighter than the full moon!
A telescope is the closest thing we have to a time machine!

There are two major observatories near us, one essentially in our backyard, so it is mandated that light “pollution” be kept at a minimum. Streetlights are non-existent.
It makes for great stargazing for us amateurs.
That is only after the light escapes the sun.
It may take 100,000 years between starting out and escaping.

Frank Zappa
had a varied and multi-talented career as an experimental musician, singer-songwriter, composer, bandleader and filmmaker.
He released his first album as part of the band Mothers of Invention in 1965. Titled “Freak Out it was, unusually for a first album, a double-sided release. The band recorded four albums for the label Verve before Zappa set up his own record label Bizarre Records with Herb Cohen in 1968. Alice Cooper would be the only successful act to be released by the label.
Zappa went on to record a large number of albums – over 60 across his career, while also touring extensively, mainly in the US and Europe. His musical style was diverse, incorporating a wide range of styles such as Doowop, Jazz, R&B and classical modernism. His lyrics often took a satirical and humorous view of society and he was a strong advocate for the freedom of speech. In 1985 he testified before a Senate Committee against the Parents Music Resource Center, that advocated the banning of lyrics with sexual or satanic content.
Zappa died at just 52 of prostate cancer in 1993. He was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 and awarded Grammy for Lifetime Achievement in 1997.

Good morning Dear Betsy. My Beau is perpetually in that phase, but it makes no difference, I love him anyway. I attribute it to “what kind of life did he have as a stray?” before I adopted him at 10 months old three years ago.
Love all the images of doggos today. Thank you. I took a bit of a break from the computer last week. I apologize for not responding to your cursday and caturday posts. I did check them out and of course you never disappoint us.
Because of the four new residents here this Christmas, I will not be putting up much in the way of decorations. I am trying to find a place to put my creche I got from the Benedictine Monks at Assisi, Italy years ago, but it has quite a few pieces. I’m afraid this would be too much of a temptation to pass up for the kittens and momma.
Where I normally would place it is now a perch for them to check out the birds in the back yard, (it is a big bay window) and that is where the woods in my property begin. so there are a lot of birds and other critters to entertain them.
I am now allowing the kittens and momma into the bedroom during the day when I am here to supervise. They are not quite as curious since they are allowed in there. They like sleeping on my bed and momma under the bed.
The house is not nearly as chaotic as it was. I’m getting quite fond of them all, so this may be a permanent arrangement. Who knows? Cleo, the momma, is beginning to let me touch her more, still does not want to be held, but will sleep on my desk, near me, when I am working on grading papers or reading the treehouse. On the other hand, I have to try to grade papers when the kittens are sleeping as they want to assist me, grabbing at the red pen, trying to eat the quizzes, pushing the quizzes onto the floor and chasing them, etc. The professor explains to the students with kitten teeth marks on the corners of their quizzes, about the kittens. They seem to take it with humor.
That is about all the update I have here at “Kitty Central”. I am trying to stay in as much as allows, other than the chores for chickens and horse. Nasty, misty, cold day here in North Texas.

I was starting to worry about you – so glad you are here and well.
With 10 animals in the house, we have finally given up on the way we were accustomed to decorating. (Bonus – Lots less time packing things up!)
We use battery lights around the house, no candles or plants. I miss poinsettias, but they are poisonous to kitties.
We set a tree or other plant up just outside a large picture window.
It works, and alleviates the stress. In my opinion, worth the sacrifice! ❤️
Please don’t apologize , dear Pat, for not commenting. Life takes us in all directions, and you have your hands full. As long as I can hunt down worthy contributions I’ll keep posting, though I do fret that the day may come when my “inventory” might be a little low. Somehow, so far, I have been lucky to replenish each week…
I have an artist friend Wales side our age who endured the worst a young lad could when he was being schooled by Catholic priests long ago. He manages but has never recovered fully. And so every year he takes a sabbatical to Assisi where we regains a sense of peace. He knows it well and draws or paints for the entire time he is there. I have a wonderful drawing of his of the statue of St Francis on his horse, both bowing. On the bottom of his work, he has written in Italian, “What would you have me do….” I suspect you’ll be familiar with this casting.
How wonderful you have a creche from there. I know it holds very special meaning for you, a true spiritual treasure. So I consider you wise in not risking it to little bodies for which there is probably no place safe enough to display it. I keep waiting for you to report that they are calmer, but as I read ( 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 !!) I see I’ll have to wait a little longer. At least I am getting the feeling from your wonderful and entertaining update that Cleo and babes are trés comfortable with their surroundings and consider your company worthy.
Our feral momma never did allow us to pick her up; and like Cleo she felt more at ease under our bed. Our Welsh barn cats, though not domesticated, immediately took to all sorts of physical contact…being held, ear scratches and pets, and lap sitting. Cannot tell you how very much we miss them.
Our day is exactly like yours…cold, damp, and not conducive for venturing out. I did that yesterday in anticipation. So now we are having a second ☕ and listening to the most beautiful Christmas music on the station I told Garrison about (See above). I would imagine you could access it if you would like a few moments of Christmas serenity, music which lifts the soul and instills a peace as we reflect and anticipate the birth of our Lord and Saviour. Good afternoon Betsy. I loved Assisi, and fondly remember the statue and I was able to spend several days there. I can understand why your friend goes there, as it is a very peaceful place and would love to have been able to stay there longer, but alas work beckoned me.
The thing I love about this creche is that I have never seen so many animal figures in a creche as there are in this particular creche. Makes perfect sense though. The figures were made and painted by the monks.
Of course it makes perfect sense. I would purchase it for that alone and consider myself very blessed to own it.
My friend was the same, wished he could spend more time there. The terrible covid years prevented his returning for a few years, and it always broke my heart for him as I understood how beneficial these sojourns were.

Both of ours are American Cockers. Buckley is a rescue and we figure about 3 years old. He’s a male. Very strong, active, and athletic. Geisha (Comfort Lady) we bought as a pup from a breeding kennel in Missouri. She’s over 11 years old, almost deaf and half blind and only has 1/2 her teeth. She is a total cuddle bums and kept Sherry company while I was on the road. She is a shorter than Buckley but heavier and is still the boss.
Buckley is the 5th American Cocker Sherry and I have had during our 42 years of marriage.
I’d cave as well. Guaranteed 😍👍🏻

Our rural Welsh home was surrounded on three sides with sheep. The farmer would bring his two dogs with him from time to time…very protective they were and capable.

Oh yes they sure are. I had a friend that had a Jack Russell. He was one of the greatest dogs I ever had the privilege to know. His name was Harley, named after the motorcycle. He was her constant and very protective companion. I was honored to be among the few people, he trusted enough, to jump into my lap. Loved that little guy.
Our beloved Penny was a Jack Russell. A sweet girl who thought she was a cat, since we had only one of her and multiple moggies. How honoured I know you felt. Quite right, too. I love his name…dignified for a breed which deserves no less 💕

I had a friend in the mountains that had a horse, two pot bellied pigs and five yorkies. I would house sit for her and take care of her pets when she went away.
The first time I did it she said be sure to give the pot bellied pigs a can of beer each when they come in their large doggy door into their room to settle down for the night. I was not fast enough one night and they made an unbelievable ruckus until they got their beer. It was one of the funniest thing I’ve ever witnessed! They were quite likeable and loveable, but you better remember their beer every night!

I so agree with this statement. Beau is spoiled, but then all my many rescue and adoptions were utterly and completely spoiled!
Morning (still but just), Pat 💕 So many rescued pets who need to be spoiled and loved.
But there also dogs and cats which have been surrendered, loved by their owners, because reasons economic, health, and others. And I know there are many with broken but valiant hearts who fall into this category…including one dear Treeper who, for a short time, had to make sure his beloved girl was cared for while he sorted out his temporary issue. Fortunately…and thank the Good Lord…they are reunited.
For those like you, Corny, and too many others to mention, it is a call of the highest order to cover these animals with boundless affection, those which by the Father’s lovingkindness, has I’m convinced, provided them with what they need or may have lost through no fault of their own.

That makes 1476 useless eaters.
If we take the guvimt figures at face value (22.6%), that means we have 333.57 idiots incapable of work in parliament telling us how to live our lives.
I presume the same applies in America.

I simply don’t see one..and that makes us sorrowful and furious in equal measure.

As far as I can see, dear RCR, he is only one of two or three true British patriots standing. Laurence Fox being another. He has put all he is or has on the line. There is no side to him. He is committed for the country he loves which despises him. And I do fear for his safety.
My British husband and I believe the UK is finished, that there is now no way to turn it back in a sane direction. We had hopes, but with each passing day and each terrible story of state authoritarianism and their Sturmabteilung boots crushing more and more human faces, we have said that outside of nationwide violence, the end has arrived.
If there are more Tommy Robinsons out there, it might make a difference. But we see none…
As difficult as I find it in this latter stage of life, to watch what has become of this country, I have to stop and consider that there are those like yourself and your husband, who are watching it happen to two great nations, homelands.

The tide gauge at Battery Park, NYC shows zero change in the rate of sea level rise over the last 175 years! It took me less than a minute to pull this up from NOAA. But doing it for themselves before they start blathering about doom is apparently something they’re not capable of.

I won’t bother to research it just now, but I suspect New York is physically SUBSIDING
Northern Long Island out to Montauk consists of glacial end-moraines – sandy gravel and cobbles and boulders pushed up into cliffs and hills, marking the southernmost extent of the continental ice sheet of the ice age
NYC would have lain in the glacial forebulge – the weight of the ice depressed the earth’s crust and squeezed mantle material out where the ice was and raising land to the south where there was no ice
Once the ice sheet melted, the crust and mantle relaxed, with land beneath the ice sheet rising and land south of the ice settling. The apparent relative sea level rise in NYC likely reflects land subsidence, giving a sense of sea level rising, in a relative motion sense. The apparent sea-level rise may not at all reflect a rising global “bathtub”, which is the first conclusion that general public would leap to.
Again – the keyword/phrase to search is ‘glacial forebulge’
Best I can remember the half of Long Island that was formed as the terminal moraine is subsiding due to gradual compaction. But Manhattan is heaving.
However, as I remember the tide gauge at Battery park is one of those that has GPS and so at least in more recent part of that record land movement is accounted for. If that is the case then what that graph shows is the gradually increasing sea level that is occurring due to us being in an interglacial warm period from melting ice and thermal expansion.

It’s aimed square at spots like Marion County, where critics say DA Ryan Mears has let folks with rap sheets, like the IndyGo bus arsonist, walk free, spiking fear in neighborhoods.
Ireland’s bill would expand impeachment beyond just “high crimes” to straight-up failure to enforce laws that protect innocents, needing approval in 2 legislative sessions before hitting voters.
This is the accountability people’ve been screaming for. Soft-on-crime benchwarmers hide behind “discretion,” but when their leniency endangers families, it’s not justice, it’s negligence.
The U.S. would be in the vanguard of this movement, it’s due to time to boot ’em, replace ’em with tough enforcers who prioritize victims over perps.

COMMENTARY FOR LUKE 12
Christ reproves the interpreters of the law. (1-12) A caution against covetousness The parable of the rich man. (13-21) Worldly care reproved. (22-40) Watchfulness enforced. (41-53) A warning to be reconciled to God. (54-59)
22-40 Christ largely insisted upon this caution not to give way to disquieting, perplexing cares, #Mt 6:25-34|. The arguments here used are for our encouragement to cast our care upon God, which is the right way to get ease. As in our stature, so in our state, it is our wisdom to take it as it is. An eager, anxious pursuit of the things of this world, even necessary things, ill becomes the disciples of Christ. Fears must not prevail; when we frighten ourselves with thoughts of evil to come, and put ourselves upon needless cares how to avoid it. If we value the beauty of holiness, we shall not crave the luxuries of life. Let us then examine whether we belong to this little flock. Christ is our Master, and we are his servants; not only working servants, but waiting servants. We must be as men that wait for their lord, that sit up while he stays out late, to be ready to receive him. In this Christ alluded to his own ascension to heaven, his coming to call his people to him by death, and his return to judge the world. We are uncertain as to the time of his coming to us, we should therefore be always ready. If men thus take care of their houses, let us be thus wise for our souls. Be ye therefore ready also; as ready as the good man of the house would be, if he knew at what hour the thief would come.

WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

Des Moines, Iowa bottomed out at -8°F (-22.2°C) this morning, breaking the old daily record low of -6°F (-21.1°C) set back in 1886. This is the earliest it has been this cold since 1919.
Funny, our record lows the last few days have also been from 1919, Idaho. Must have been a really cold year.

He hadn’t smiled in days, terrified of his upcoming 12-hour surgery. Then, two Navy SEALs walked into his room.
10-year-old Cody had been in the hospital for weeks, his body broken from a terrible car accident. To save his spine, doctors had to put him in a “halo brace,” a metal ring bolted to a vest to keep him still. It was painful, scary, and he hadn’t smiled in days.
He was facing another, even more dangerous 12-hour surgery. The night before, his Child Life Specialist, a woman whose job it was to help him cope, asked him what his one biggest wish was. “I want to meet a real soldier,” he whispered. “A real hero.”
That specialist had a brother. He was a Navy SEAL.
The next morning, the call went out. A SEAL team was in the middle of a 48-hour urban training exercise just miles away. When they heard the request, the team leader didn’t hesitate. “We’re going.”
Two operators, still in full combat gear—faces covered in camo paint, night-vision goggles flipped up—walked into the pediatric ward. The hospital went silent.
They entered Cody’s room. He’d been crying, but his eyes went wide.
“Hey, Cody,” the first SEAL said, his voice gentle. “We heard we had a real fighter in here.”
“You’re… you’re real,” Cody whispered, his eyes locked on their gear.
“We sure are,” the second SEAL said, smiling. “And we heard *you* were going into a tough fight today. We wanted to give you this.” He unclipped a patch from his vest.
“This is our team patch. We only give it to the toughest guys we know. And you? You’re tougher than any of us.”
For 10 minutes, Cody wasn’t a sick kid. He was a new recruit, being visited by his brothers-in-arms. “Sometimes, the best medicine isn’t found in a hospital room. It’s found in the courage of a real hero.
