I stumbled across a web page that show maps of entire US or sub-regions and which European immigrants settled where
Germans occupied swaths of Pennsylvania and Ohio (the Pennsylvania Deutsch, not “Dutch”) and also big swaths of Texas and other states (New Braunfels Tx is a notable example)
There’s a charming movie called Shultze Gets the Blues about a German railway worker who is retiring. He plays accordion in an oompah band playing traditional German music and the whole town chips in for a ticket to America to an accordion festival in New Braunfels
But before that, he hears strange accordion music on late-nite radio. It’s quite different from the German style, what he’s hearing is Cajun and zydeco music. He tries interjecting some of the style in his weekly band practice but all the other players look at him sideways, and he plays some at his retirement party to similar reaction from the assembled crowd who are used to polkas.
So he attends the accordion festival in Texas and then afterward he strikes off to search for some of that zydeco music and ends up in New Orleans and some of the outer communities in the bayous in a little outboard-motorboat he rents
It’s a long, slow film, director is Wim Wenders or similar, so far from American-paced movies, no car chases, that sorta thing.
Worth it if you’ve got the patience and are able to block out an evening and ship in some refreshments

A known CIA asset who was a trained member of a covert unit of assassins.
