We sang this Psalm every Sunday in our church when I was growing up, Jonrilus. In my heart I’m singing it once more.
Gratitude feeds the soul. There can never be too much so that any of us should say, “I am replete.” It should be a constant giving to the Father of us all, the Lord who showers us with blessings and mercies seen, unseen, and those which will undoubtedly come because He cares for us as no other can.
Two little words…Thank You…delivered with humility and wonder that even in our wretched state, Almighty God knows and still loves us.

You know, Betsy, the root of most of this country’s problems, and mankind’s problems in general, is that too many of us just aren’t thankful. “In Him we live, and move, and have our being…” Every breath we take, the food on our tables, if we have family and friends and health, the memories of good times and bad ones that He brought us through…all of it we just have to be thankful to God for.
A thankful people aren’t rioting and plotting and raging and subverting. They’re looking for people to help, looking for common ground with the people with which they disagree. Thankfulness to God would address so many of the common ills of a fallen world.
So Happy Thanksgiving my Treehouse confreres! It’s my thankful pleasure to come here constantly to be informed and refreshed and, yes, encouraged! So many of you try so obviously to be encouraging and as a citizen of heaven I know it’s an encouragement I’ll take with me. So thank you all, very much. 🙂

Long ago we walked into a pub in Owestry (England) for a meal. It took some time for our eyes to adjust to the darkish interior coming in from from bright sunlight, and at first glance the floor seemed awful lumpy.
And then suddenly it started to move! A bit of a shock as the “lumps” rose up one by one…4 Great Danes they were. One of the many lovely things about a country which now exists only in my memory and in my heart.

There was this Spanish restaurant in the Mexico City’s downtown Zona Rosa. Very traditional, the kind of place visited by diplomats and common folk like us . . . There was a selection of kitties who lived there. They were very polite, never being intrusive, but politely waiting for “dropped” tasty selections from people’s lunch plates. Serving food is a profession in Mexico so service at your table is always exceptional—usually done with a
dramatic flair that you don’t see here in the ‘States. So it was at this splendid establishment. The well mannered kitties were part of the show!
If I were there, those kitties would have spotted me straight away as their “Go To!! 😂 And they would have been not disappointed. Oh how I agree. I’ve been to Mexico City once, long ago. I’m sorry I didn’t find this place, though the journey from Texas which we took on the scenic route provided many examples of what you describe. I’m sure time and events have swallowed whole those small towns where we stopped overnight.

Cranberry Salad
1 large package Cherry jello
2 cans Ocean Spray cranberries
1 can Crushed Pineapple, do not drain
1 cup chopped pecans
In large casserole dish, dissolve jello with 2 cups hot water. Add 1 cup cold water (reducing amount package calls for). Mix your fruit in a bowl and add to the jello. Fold in pecans. Set in refrigerator until firm.
Subs:
Use Orange flavored jello with zest of one large orange
Use Raspberry flavored jello
If using fresh cranberries… process one package of fresh cranberries, with one cup of water, and one cup of sugar. Bring the fresh cranberries, sugar and water to boil on the stove, reduce to medium heat, and cook until the cranberries are tender and plump and the sauce thickens. Use these in lieu of 2 cans whole cranberries in above recipe.

As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

We celebrated yesterday. This year, as I offered the usual prayer of thanks for family and food, I made sure to include thanks for memories.
Only moments before we sat down, I had been thinking about a long ago Thanksgiving when we were kids. There were four of us, all boys. My older brothers were home from school. We stayed up late that evening while they taught me to play pitch and other cool manly stuff.
That next year, my oldest brother was drafted and far from home. Four years later, my next oldest brother was killed in a construction accident. And my little brother passed in his sleep two winters ago.
Some day, each of us will have our last gathering around that dining room table. So make good memories today, my treeper friends. I think we get to take the good ones with us.

Here’s a bit of Mystical Magic Memory to enhance your Thanksgiving Day. The link below honors / limns both a unique airplane and one of the special pilots who flew her.
The plane is the sr-71 Blackbird. The Pilot is Brian Shul (8 February 1948 – 20 May 2023)
The Poem High Flight, for obvious reasons, was a favorite of the Blackbird pilots.
The sr-71 was top secret and journalists were always asking: How high does it fly? How fast does it go? One pilot answered (paraphrased) that while I can’t give you exact numbers, I can give you a point of reference:
to Touch The Face of God we have to Slow Down and Go Down.
Brian’s description (and photos) of flight in the sr-71 will leave you a believer. He pays high tribute to American creativity, ingenuity and capability. Lockheed developed it in the 1960s. Today’s cars have more ‘technology. The sr-71 had no computer, no radar, no auto pilot … and yet …
Near the end of the Vietnam war Brian’s plane was shot down. He was badly burned and given no chance to live. But he did live, overcoming the agony, to become ‘one of the elite’ to haunt the skies high above our atmosphere.
The video, over an hour long – maybe close to 2 hours, will keep you enthralled. Brian’s photos are breathtakingly haunting.

How wonderful!! Yum!!! I do love a good homemade pumpkin pie. I use my mother in law’s recipe with loads of spices. It never failed. However Chris, Brit that he is, is not partial to it and so I long ago quit making them. Instead I will make an apple pie in a few days, also her recipe from Bounty on the Brazos, the cookbook into its third printing which she, her two sisters, one cousin, and one friend published only to preserve recipes from the generations before them. A truly wonderful book to hand down to the family who remember their wondrous culinary skills and the many parties where their fare was served…much to the delight of those who tasted it.
You can see where I am “spending” my Thanksgiving. Surrounded by much missed laughter, great food, and love of long ago…

Savannah and I had a little “pact” that if the place ever burned down or had to be evacuated… grab the cats and the 2 inch binder of home recipes. Lol. We have our priorities… you know?
Our family used to make an upside down apple pie… where you would butter the pie pan, put pecans rounded side down into the pan covering the bottom of the pan, with a healthy bit of brown sugar… then your first crust, the apples for filling with spices, and then the second pie crust. When baked, flip over warm out of the oven, and it makes like a sticky caramelized topping that hardens and is really good. Sadly… I’ve not been able to find an apple worthy of a pie all year long. The apples from the store are lifeless and taste like they come from a 3D printer.
Didn’t make it to the apple orchard up north this year. I didn’t have it in me to process apples. I processed 50 lbs of peaches from the peach truck in early July… and that was the extent of it.
I usually try to get to the sweet corn for freezing, too… but no such luck this year. With Savannah gone… I don’t have much need for the reinforcements of freezing and it’s shocking to me how little I need for food and how much less laundry there is! I was quite the work horse for many years!
I did keep seeds from our Cherokee Purple tomatoes and will attempt to grow them again in the Spring. They were the best tomatoes I’ve ever had. Thank you to Aldis for selling tomatoes one can procreate. Those and these little heart shaped tomatoes about the size of large cherry tomatoes were the best. Sturdy flesh, dynamic sweet but not acidy flavor.
I so want to a greenhouse.
Getting alerts for 3 to 7 inches of snow for this weekend… so I need a greenhouse in South Carolina… or Louisiana… or Texas. Lol.

Whoa!! You were a busy gal in the kitchen! I use Gala for pies because they don’t go all mushy and have just the right amount of sweetness. I know most recommend Golden, but not for me. I up the dosage, so to speak, on the cinnamon in my mother in law’s recipe, simply because I love the stuff. And I use more butter (she called for 2 Tbs) because who wouldn’t?? 😂 And besides butter is good for the soul I’ve always thought…and other parts 😊
I am grieved that Savannah is not with you. I understand the situation very well because all three of mine and their offspring are always elsewhere for Thanksgiving and Christmas. It leaves such a hole…and I am feeling the missing for you, dear Woo.
We don’t eat a lot as it takes precious little to fill us up. but I do miss cooking as I used to. Ah well, time is merciless, right?

Dang it won’t let me upvote you! I saw a semi submerged greenhouse years ago that looked fantastic for using the earth to regulate temperature. I don’t know how far into winter it can take you if you’re up north or how far into summer it can take you in the desert but I was fascinated but never got to try. If it’s tall enough inside there’s some guys using pvc pipe super wide not like under the sink width and they make vertical planters with them – helps maximize your space.
