You see (he doesn’t …), you can say whatever you want to on the campaign trail, but in office you are bound by things like the City Council, the State Legislature, and plenty of “Stakeholders” whom you haven’t met. One of whom is: “this trucking company,” and countless other businesses like it. Not to mention all of the citizens who didn’t vote for you, some of whom are old enough (and experienced enough …) to be your grandmother.

micro level, but my wife and i bought our first home many years ago, were there for a decade, and then moved to a different place. we decided to keep our original home as a rental. over the years the city threatened a lot of terrible rent/landlord laws but each time they could not get it done because it became obvious there was no consensus and they ran the numbers.
had we pulled out based on what a long string of idiot politicians promised, we would have lost a TON of money and equity that helped us greatly for retirement.

I can’t believe that someone from the family or those helping them didn’t somehow get some of those eggs and keep them or even some of the birds themselves before the govt. took over. Seriously, there was time before the takeover and even before that when the first inklings of an issue were cropping up. The family was working on the science long before that I thought. Why would they not make sure some of their property was kept safe?

The shutdown was to use the govt. workers to get out the vote for the demons. They likely went door to door and stuffed stuffed even more.
I’m in VA. I got at least 1 Democrat door knocker everyday for the two weeks up to and including election day.
I normally get like 1 visit in that time period and 1 from the GOP.
Of note: Not one GOP visit through this election cycle.
My voting precinct – which is small had 5 tents of Democrats handing out sample ballots etc. – it’s usually 1 or 2.
The DNC spent a lot of money to get out the vote while I saw no GOTV efforts from the GOP. And I am in a swing district.
“Republicans” need to up their game in off-cycle elections. Presidential voting turn out in every election is what we need!!!
For the republicans to succeed at governance, people have to have jobs and upward mobility. This leads to full bellies and contentment, which leads to complacency and apathy.
Anger is the mothers milk of politics. Republicans don’t have a formula on how to strategically create a focused anger with their base. Too often and deservedly so, the anger is directed at the republican party establishment for their lack of connection to the base.

Kindly remember that the Senate vote was only to bring cloture to the measure, not actually voting for the measure yet. First the cloture needs to “ripen” (usually 30 hours) with all debate over, then they vote on passing the measure.

Not to be obtuse but “Election Day” for Federal Elections IS DEFINED in the Constitution and statutorily as “the Tuesday next after the first Monday in November.
This date has been affirmed in the 14th Amendment, which aligned the date of congressional elections with that of the president, as defined in the Constitution .. Article I, Section4.
The date is already FIXED and it is the Congress that is required to redefine the date, if that action is to occur as an Amendment to the US Constitution.
The Supreme court, state legislatures and even the activist Lower courts have zero authority to define Election Day as it is an Article I … congressional issue.
The problem is that the US Government and DoJ have not enforced the law as written, regarding this issue … all while congress again takes the cowards way out by sitting in their thumbs.
The real question before the Courts should be… are the rights of US Citizens and Federal candidates violated by State EXTENDING elections beyond the DEFINED ELECTION DAY for Federal Elections??
