BarryCare hated these type of policies and refused to let them on the exchange. Luckily I was able to add her to my policy

A few years ago those 500K homes were selling new for 240K. If wages had doubled, it wouldn’t be a big deal, but we know they didn’t.
Funny thing. At the economy of scale these builders enjoy, that “single-family home,” parts plus labor, costs around $35-50K to build. It can be sold for many times that, “pure profit.” The biggest “$100K difference” is kitchen appliances and carpet. Most of the rest of it is 2x4s.
I guess the same as selling $2 soda at restaurants that costs them probably 5-10 cents.
A fixed rate 50 year mortgage is little more than rent-controlled housing.
By the time it is paid off, most newer construction homes are used up.
And buying at age 25, it is paid off right about the time most homeowners are downsizing to senior living.
This is not the answer to the home affordability crisis.
You’ll buy 3 washing machines, 3 refrigerators, 2 stoves, another furnace and water heater, another sprinkler system in addition to replacing 5 sprinklers every year. Your decks will have to be replaced at least one time. Your battery driven lawnmower will need to be replaced. Your windows will need to be replaced as well as your roof.
