Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur (sic — the video spelled it wrong) … it’s a good place; populated by very good people, IMO … same goes for Thailand, the Philippines, and Singapore … not necessarily the “same” in many ways … but still similar.
This was a great send-off for a POTUS — I’m 80 years “experienced” now, retired … and I was out of breath at the top of the stairs just watching this — and it shows (again, IMO) a huge degree of mutual respect going both ways — thanks to the skills of this President — and a burgeoning, important relationship w/ all of those countries.

it used to scare me, seeing as how Malaysia is 99% Muslim. I wondered about Singapore at the tip of the peninsula, I have thought about moving there – but I’m happy now to see what I saw today.
IMO, Singapore is a GREAT place … but it comes with many restrictions and “differences” from the Western lifestyle. And know that it’s on the Equator so it gets hot, hotter, and hottest … but you kinda’ get used to it after you get acclimatized … YMMV

No, more like 63% Muslin. But depends if you are talking about Peninsular Malay or other areas. Sarawak is a mix of Buddhist (ethnic Chinese) and Christian (natives of Borneo) while neighboring Sabah is historically Muslim (and Muslim Brunei sandwiched in between).

It’s so heartwarming to see such a respectful greeting and departure ceremony. I don’t recall any such ceremonies as lovely as these were. Thank you, Malaysia, for honoring our beloved President.
Two of the largest Islamic Based and also stable nations are Pacific Nations as well as members of ASEA, Malaysia (64%) and Indonesia (87%). A fact often overlooked in “Western Media”.
Then there are Southwest Asian Nations; Iran, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan … that seem to have all the focus.
It would be very interesting if President Trump’s efforts in the Pacific expanded by reaching out to Malaysia, Indonesia and even Bangladesh … in the same vein as formed the Abraham Accords.
Note: Malaysia and Indonesia also have large resource deposits, plus both sit astride the most heavily used Ocean Trade Routes linking the Pacific and Indian Oceans.
In the Pacific version of the Abraham Accords, India would be incorporated.
I guess depends on what you think of East Timor. Have a friend who grew up in Dutch East Indies. Father and grandfather killed by the Japanese during the war. After the war during the Indonesian civil war they returned to Netherlands but then emigrated to the US.
The Brits in Malaysia have their own history in the post-war period. Often cited as textbook how to do counter-insurgency, but today viewed as a pretty brutal time. I don’t think the US was involved, but probably viewed as a supporter of the UK.

This is what makes him such a ”people’s” president; he has an innate appreciation for people of any nation. They intrigue and fascinate him.
