Yes, we used to travel across “the line” for gas we have Nexus, and are a 5 minute drive from the border.

Gas, eggs, milk, and bread are about the only things that go down at any pace to speak of. Some things go down very slowly – others never. The staples I get at the store that I can’t grow or get local have been stable all year – no increases. That’s a victory in and of itself after 4 years of what seemed like weekly increases.
I keep seeing positive signs though – my last store trip my addiction (coffee) was down 10%, the first decrease in 5 years. Don’t see gas under $2 in most places until the Ukraine event is over. Of course, insane places like California will likely never see it near there.

He has hired heavy weight election integrity warriors like Christina Ball and K. Olson, to mention a few, to add to the work done at the RNC IN 2023-2024.

Most major US companies are transitioning corporate roles to India. Not only are those folks technically capable to take on that work, it’s an obvious cost savings, too – which is what shareholders are expecting these days. Public safety note: The national foodstamp system is now one week from shutdown.
If the federal shutdown is not ended by next Saturday, November 1 — one week from today — and no federal stopgap is implemented, SNAP benefits for 40M people will end.
These programs feed principally low income and low information people, in predominantly urban areas, with limited ability to feed themselves (and in many instances to even plan ahead).
The web is already filling with video declarations of how some intend to just steal food from stores and markets once their benefits end. Like the 2020 riots on steroids.
While local foodbanks and charities may help, that system is in no way equipped to feed 40 million people on a sustained basis.
And state government abilities to fill the food gap will vary from state to state, and political leadership intent. Democrat controlled locations may even attempt to inflame the local crisis for national political purposes.
Many doomsday models (starting with Allied planning for the end stages of WWII) identify lack of food as a primary factor to severe civil unrest. It only takes a week to ten days with substantial food shortages before all structured civilization begins to break down.
I expect that the now unhinged Democrat party, increasingly slipping into full communist ideological control, will push this danger to the very limit, and even beyond, as their grip on national power teeters, and their call to national violence continues. They may intend a food crisis as a last minute election factor in two pivotal gubernatorial races in NJ and VA, both of which they are now on the cusp of losing.
These political ghouls are desperate.
So if the government shutdown extends past next week, I would recommend staying away from larger blue cities, in particularly blue states, as a shutdown continues.
The natives there are going to become increasingly restless, and likely lack the discipline, creativity and fortitude of the residents of Leningrad from 80 years ago to go long without free food. It may become ugly, and dangerous, quickly. Perhaps, by design.

And I think if such conditions did arise there might be a surprising number of sheriffs around the country who would deputize certain citizens for security and defense purposes before they’d let violent anarchy and theft go unchallenged.
And I know darned well there are plenty of places who’d take care of their communities’ grocers with or without their sheriffs’ blessings if push came to shove.
This is why you don’t create entitelment programs in the first place. It forces people to WORK. And to take their jobs SERIOUSLY. It is how you keep a vibrant and productive society. What you have just laid out is the EXACT reason to eliminate these programs in some manner. Scale it down carefully over a 5 year period. This will force kids to pay attention in school so they can make money when they get out.

But to your larger point, you are absolutely correct. 40 million people that won’t be getting food for free is 100% going to lead to theft, rioting, and looting. No doubt.
I especially don’t like federal government entitlement programs. If individual states want to start them, fine. No block grants from the Feds to fund them. Whether it be for food, healthcare, housing, or education.
