They are hard workers and get things done. Good for them for helping those affected by the floods.
I am not a fan of how they treat their animals however and create puppy mills as money makers. Their horses are dumped at slaughter auctions after being used until they are no longer physically able to work and in grave shape. Those that pull buggies are working on harsh pavement and left out in heat and other harsh conditions parked outside stores, meetings, etc. , sometimes for hours, with little regard for their being given water or relief, kept hitched to their equipment and tied.
Maybe not all of the Amish treat their animals this way, but the many credible reports and evidence of this issue over many years are true. It is widespread. The puppy sales are easily found online still. The animals of labor are considered as tools, thrown away or sold for little and not regarded as living, feeling beings. Vet care doesn’t seem to be prevalent. Many rescues, people who live near Amish communities and sanctuaries have sad, harsh tales to tell of the animals of the Amish.
I cannot give the Amish heartfelt praise because of this issue. The animal abuse laws do not always apply to them due to their religious status. The horses, dogs and other animals suffer many times in their hands. Why such a generous group of people do this kind of thing to, or think this way about, animals is beyond rational reason.
No vaccines either.

Spent two months researching leather restoration, teaching myself techniques through tutorials,conditioning and painting and bringing back colors I thought were lost forever. Hand-painted those intricate flowers and tooling details, trying to honor his memory with every careful brushstroke.
Finished it last week and my grandmother came over, touched that turquoise seat with shaking hands, and whispered “he would have loved this.” Said it looks better than the day he won it in 1974.
It sits in my living room now, not practical or functional, just a monument to a man who taught me that broken things deserve second chances.
