Israel Update:
I assume that some of you were anticipating an update with all the happenings.
I was avoiding it because there are so many conflicting informations and misinformations that I wanted to let more time pass in order to have things clarified. But I think that it’s time for a few words.
It started with Trump threatening Hamas with Hell if they don’t agree to his plan.
The plan that includes return of all the hostages in 72 hours, Hamas demilitarized and some leave, International Force of Arabs to supervise, a Technocrats (moderate professionals) government of mainly Palestinians. IDF retreats, etc…
It looked like Trump recruited the Arab nations to pressure and coroner Hamas.
Then came the “Yes and No” answer from Hamas.
They basically said “Yet to the release of the hostages, in more than 72 hours, but depending on negotiations on the other points that should be negotiated”.
Then their leadership came up with statements that : “No to disarming, No to an International Force, Technocrat Government appointed by Palestinians (Hamas), etc.. Things that make the agreement useless.
Then Trump accepted it as a “Yes” and tweeted how “Hamas accepted it and wants lasting Peace and Israel must stop fire in Gaza”.
Then a video of him thanking Qatar, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt… basically the enemies of israel.
At this point most Israelis got angry at Trump as it showed that he doesn’t understand Jihadists. You can’t make peace with Jihadists. At this point I stared to avoid updates as from my experience when I am mad at Trump he ends up with moves that handles my upset.
He is not so easily turning on Israel.
So then Bibi ordered to stop the operation in Gaza City and only act defensively. As a note, this is a real danger to the IDF. We had some awful experiences in such ceasefires in the past because they use it to attack and kidnap, etc… I see that the IDF is still very active and some 70 killed in Gaza. I guess just stopping mid urban warfare makes one a sitting duck.
Tricky situation for the soldiers.
There are still some attacks but not offensive. More for defensive purposes.
Then today Bibi had a briefing and said that under pressure Hamas agreed to return all the hostages and it may be by Sukkot Holiday. That is 12 Oct. And the other points of disarming Hamas are still going to happen. He presented it as a historic win. He left everyone confused. Where does his confidence come from ?
Trump then Tweets that he will not accept added time and any games. He wants the hostages. He is talking about Peace. We have no idea why he is saying it???
So I have to say that there are two schools of thought. One is that Hamas is just manipulating everyone with the help of the Arab nations.
The other is that there is a miracle and we will see the hostages soon. And we will still get Hamas disarmed.
So as you can see there is a lot of confusion. I didn’t want to pretend that I know.
It appears that things are happening behind the scene that we don’t see.
So as I usually say: ‘We shall see”. Give it a couple of weeks and we should know.
I can only pray to see the hostages back and no surrender about securing Gaza from future threats.

David, thank you for you (as usual) very cogent analysis. I have a slightly different view . . . Trump is under no illusions about Hamas, none at all. I think he knows full well that he is being played by Hamas. His primary focus, however, is getting Hamas to release of the hostages. Once that happens everything changes.
Trump has no illusions about Hamas. So, with the hostages finally free, Trump will be free to eradicate Hamas. The “allied” Arab states have no illusions about what radical Islam thinks about them. Like it or not, they are allied to both the US and Isreal’s geopolitics. They don’t want Hamas remnants around any more than we do. In fact, they are actually more directly threatened than any western nation (and not even Israel).
Trump see’s an opportunity to get the hostages released. Sure, Hamas is playing Trump but, Trump—the master deal maker—is also playing them. I think he meant it when he said, “all Hell is going to break loose”. Watch this space. 🙂

As I said, I don’t pretend to know. There is more behind the scene than usually. A lot is not published.
As to the Arab States, there are two kinds: Egypt, Jordan, UAE, Saudi Arabia who all banned the Muslim Brotherhood as they are afraid of Radical Islam. Those could to some degree be called “allied to US and Israel’s geopolitics”. But they are all for a Palestinian State so it’s not exactly allies.
Then there are Qatar and Turkey who are major Muslim Brotherhood supporters and players (again for those who don’t understand, The Muslim Brotherhood, is a religious and political huge organization of spreading Islam by all means whose founders’ writings are the main inspiration of the Radical Ideology of Al Qadea, Hamas, ISIS, etc..).
Those two nations openly support Hamas and serve them in some ways including hosting their leadership.
Trump has close relationships with the leaders of those two nations. I think it’s a mistake and Israel also made a mistake in legitimizing Qatar and letting them lead the negotiations for the hostages.
There was a pragmatic aspect as Qatar has influence over Hamas. But they also were behind stalling the negotiations at some times. The entire antisemite wave that is going on is in no small part generated by Qatari money and influance. I will post a short video about Qatar later on.
The confusion that Trump caused was when he said that “Hamas wants peace and peace is on the table”. That is a wrong statement. It gives the impression that he doesn’t understand the mindset of the Jihadists.
Otherwise I wish to agree with you. But trying to understand what is in Trump’s mind is a speculation and I recommended to wait and see. The future will tell. We will know in the next few weeks. Will the hostages return or was Trump manipulated? Did he promise them something that will endanger Israel in the future in exchange for the hostages or is it a good deal for the future of Israel?
It requires patience.

What a morning!!!!
Woke up to a text from our daughter Caroline who informed us of another change in the scheduled third try for her husband Brian to receive a partial liver from a living donor tomorrow. The process has been months long and has interrupted the lives of the an incredible man, Lee, who was a perfect match and volunteered, and his family who have been all in. Stopped at the last minute three weeks ago for lack of a needed compatible vein from a bank which is a source for such things, this time all systems were go.
Then last night, they received a call from their surgical team that a full liver, a match, from a deceased donor was suddenly available…at the last minute. This option is obviously a better one for recovery…and it saves a good man from having to undergo surgery himself with all that means.
There was a mad scramble to get to Southwestern, but this morning Brian will be in surgery to receive that liver from someone whose family are now grieving a terrible loss. Who in their grief have found it in themselves to give a stranger the wonderful gift of longer life. For them I pray that the comfort of Christ and the peace which is His only to bestow fills each heart 🙏🏻
Lee, his wife J’Ann, Brian’s father and soon his mother, and Caroline are with Brian…and I know the Lord Himself is there also. He Whose timing is impeccable. He Who is NEVER early nor late. He Who knows why a window is shut because He is doing better things than we can ever hope or pray for.
We are still in need of prayers for a successful transplant and recovery please. I know with absolute certainty that God is in His heaven and will hear…and answer..any received 💕
I pray His bountiful blessings to everyone in our Tree on this Sabbath. Glory, all Glory and praise to God in the Highest!! 🙏🏻

I shall take screenshots and forward them to Caroline who I know will see the same as I do. So many underlying blessings wrapped into this big one. I am relieved for Brian’s living donor Lee (now brother) and his supportive wife that he is spared the surgery, which has the potential for him to go one of two ways. There are always tremendous unknowns and the risks which accompany them…things which were taken into account during the decision making discussions he and his wife J’Ann had on whether to make the commitment to donate. They could have said no after weighing up the disruptions and those risks. The love of Christ lives in both.
So close have these two families become that even as they learned the plan had changed, they both insisted on staying beside Caroline at least until Brian is settled into recovery. Strangers once, but no more.

He bends down to listen, even as our voices falter. It was the timing which caught us unawares. One more reminder that we should all keep the wicks of our lamps trimmed and the lamp itself filled. As He has told us, we never know the day…
How wonderfully your beautiful prayer reads not only for Brian, but for Dutch, Bo, and so many others who empty there hearts here in these branches. And for those who come or pass through unannounced, but keep their worries and problems private. We will never know how many your faithfulness in prayer reaches, but as you say, Almighty God our loving Father does.
In praising Him for the answer we never considered would be a possibility, I remain very aware of others who are still waiting for theirs. And my prayers and petitions on their behalf intensify. With God, all things are possible. Now, if I have an opportunity to answer someone who feels alone and burdened, it will be with even greater assurance and love that I can deliver the eternal message and its truth.

All Hegseth is doing is pretty much turning back the clock to the standards of the 80’s when Reagan was POTUS.
It has really opened this former SFCs eyes as to how far things had gotten down the drain seeing so many current service members going on social media to whine about having to shave and have a military haircut and in general having to maintain the basic standards that were the status quo in their various branch of service for over a century.
The more sticky and complex problem Pete has is dealing with the officers. Figuring out which ones actually supported and promoted the decline from those that just went along to go along. Weeding out the former from the later.
And then there is the problem of identifying which officers are, or can be developed into effective combat leaders at the unit level commensurate for their rank and positions.
It is a tall order!

Just got back from the Vet. Buckley had a growth on the left side of his face near his eye when we got him at the shelter. Eventually he started scratching it and it swelled and bled a little.
Two weeks ago we had it removed and he had 5 stitches. He’s been in a soft cone of shame since then until today when the sutures were removed. The pathology on the growth came back benign.
He’s one happy healthy pup.
He Loves us both but he’s Daddy’s dog. Sticks to me like velcro generally. Though he has gotten better with people I still have work to do to get him properly socialized with other dogs. He can get pretty spicy.

COMMENTARY FOR PSALMS 3
“David complains to God of his enemies, and confides in God. (1-3) He triumphs over his fears, and gives God the glory, and takes to himself the comfort. (4-8)
1-3 An active believer, the more he is beaten off from God, either by the rebukes of providence, or the reproaches of enemies, the faster hold he will take, and the closer will he cleave to him. A child of God startles at the very thought of despairing of help in God. See what God is to his people, what he will be, what they have found him, what David found in him. 1. Safety; a shield for me; which denotes the advantage of that protection. 2. Honour; those whom God owns for his, have true honour put upon them. 3. Joy and deliverance. If, in the worst of times, God’s people can lift up their heads with joy, knowing that all shall work for good to them, they will own God as giving them both cause and hearts to rejoice.
4-8 Care and grief do us good, when they engage us to pray to God, as in earnest. David had always found God ready to answer his prayers. Nothing can fix a gulf between the communications of God’s grace towards us, and the working of his grace in us; between his favour and our faith. He had always been very safe under the Divine protection. This is applicable to the common mercies of every night, for which we ought to give thanks every morning. Many lie down, and cannot sleep, through pain of body, or anguish of mind, or the continual alarms of fear in the night. But it seems here rather to be meant of the calmness of David’s spirit, in the midst of his dangers. The Lord, by his grace and the consolations of his Spirit, made him easy. It is a great mercy, when we are in trouble, to have our minds stayed upon God. Behold the Son of David composing himself to his rest upon the cross, that bed of sorrows; commending his Spirit into the Father’s hands in full confidence of a joyful resurrection. Behold this, O Christian: let faith teach thee how to sleep, and how to die; while it assures thee that as sleep is a short death, so death is only a longer sleep; the same God watches over thee, in thy bed and in thy grave. David’s faith became triumphant. He began the psalm with complaints of the strength and malice of his enemies; but concludes with rejoicing in the power and grace of his God, and now sees more with him than against him. PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
