Local police and federal officials held an initial press conference earlier this afternoon.
The FBI is investigating the Dallas ICE facility shooting as targeted violence, working with state and federal law enforcement to determine motive and other possible suspects. Evidence strongly suggests the motive for Joshua Jahn was anger toward immigration enforcement.
The shooting left one person dead and two others injured. ICE Director Todd Lyons told CNN that the suspected shooter died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities believe Jahn acted as a sniper during the attack.
Numerous left-wing political officials have ramped up their vitriol against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials. Without a doubt this likely fueled the unstable mindset of the shooter.
As recently as this week, California Governor Gavin Newsom was demanding ICE officials remove their face coverings so they and their families could be doxed and targeted by violent left-wing activists. The shooting today in Dallas, Texas, is an outcome of this type of destabilizing provocation by highly amplified Democrat politicians.

The thing about this that makes me uncomfortable is the stripper clip with 5 rounds with a sharpie message…would a shooter actually use stripper clips? And a full stripper clip? How many rounds were left in the rifle? I’ve seen references to the weapon used being .30-06, but the cartridges in the clips look more like 7.92mmx57 Mauser (aka 8mm Mauser)
The rifle itself in the graphic picture is also interesting: I haven’t handled a Springfield or a Mauser K98k in decades, but the rifle in the picture does not look modified for sporting use and looks more like a Mauser K98k – note the side-mounted sling and and the absence of swivels underneath the forestock and stock which would be typical with an M1903.

Interesting difference between Robinson’s rifle and Jahn’s is that Robinson’s was sporterized and had a(n expensive) scope. The photo of the rifle Jahn used still has a (side-mounted) military sling. No scope is visible, but the top of the rifle isn’t visible, so that’s not conclusive. Doesn’t look scoped though.

Nice photos, Monticello. The last photo of K98k rounds in a stripper clip clearly shows the rimless 7.92×57 cartridge. Close examination of the photo from Patel shows a clearly rimless cartridge. The Mosin-Nagant 7.62x54R is clearly rimmed. Careful examination of the cases eliminates the almost 1/4″ (6mm) longer .30-06.
While some semi-rimmed cartridges exist, none of these are among them.
I think that we may find that this shooter just plain sprayed rounds at the building and then at the bus or vehicle that had detainees in it. He my have went through several stripper clips of ammunition. If it was a crowded bus then he would have hit some of the passengers.
Looked like Mil spec or surplus military rounds and likely to be full metal jacket. Full metal jacket means going completely through most parts of a vehicle except the engine block or frame through passengers and through the other side of the vehicle.

The 8×57 is on par with the 7.62x54R and the 30-06 — they are all powerful enough to go through a van at several hundred meters and still be lethal. With or without a scope (I could not clearly see a scope on the rifle pictures, maybe a hint on one of them) it is difficult to hit a moving target at distance, assuming the ICE van was driving. Stopped I’d imagine the perpetrator was aiming for the cab and hit the back of the van.

If you’ve never tried to hit a small target with a rifle at even 100 yards, you really have no appreciation for the skills and experience (practice) it takes to hit a small target at distance.
Ergo: it is COMPLETELY likely that he was trying to hit the ICE officers, but just missed and hit others nearby.

I read somewhere that he had worked previously in coding, but was currently unemployed and scheduled to move into his parents’ home.
I don’t know any details but this doesn’t sound like a young man who is prospering. Surely this plays into a person’s mental state.
A portion of today’s young men don’t think that life holds anything, foreseeing dismal futures.
Others are convinced that such actions will immortalize them – or will effectively make enough of a difference as to be worth their lives. In the latter case they are no different than firemen or policemen or military men – willing to risk their lives to benefit society.
