Former New York Mayor Rudi Giuliani, 81, is hospitalized with a fractured vertebrae and multiple cuts and bruises, including injuries specifically to his left arm and lower leg, after his rent-a-car was hit from behind while traveling in New Hampshire.

NEW YORK – “The accident occurred after he re-entered his vehicle, which was then hit from behind at high speed.”
Ragusa said Giuilani, who was mayor from 1994 through 2001, is recovering and in good spirts. “The mayor is in great spirits. He’s a beast. He survived 9/11,” Ragusa said.

The whole thing reminded me of The Godfather- the domestic violence victim that kept him there, and having the car crash into him when he returns to it- similar to Sonny Corleone’s death because of his sister getting beat up. Timing was uncanny.

As I understand the news report, Rudy was giving assistance when the accident occurred. Luckily he had gotten back into his car when the other car hit him.

He was flagged by a domestic abuse victim. She was fleeing on the road. I think the abuser was nearby and came after Rudy when he returned to his car. Rudy stayed with the victim until the cops came.

My previous distorted mind (due to the continuous bombardment of news mostly dealing with the Left and the Deep State) first envisioned a “hit job” taken on by a could be paid 18-wheeler driven by an illegal who probably couldn’t speak an ounce of English, may have struck Rudy’s rental, WHICH, evidently WAS NOT THE CASE!

The reports said that he was rear ended by a car going at a high rate of speed. If he was just pulling out back into traffic, what was the car doing going at a high rate of speed in the right lane? So that’s that, until we know more.
Regardless of what we don’t know, the bottom line is that he is going to be in intense pain especially as he is an elderly gentleman, let alone the rest of his injuries. This will have consequences for the rest of his life and he needs our prayers.

Even if the person in the right lane was doing 55, physics dictates you potentially have major carnage on your hands depending on type of cars, angles, etc..
What I’ve found over the years living in Mass in particular, and the Northeast in general, is that people OFTEN underestimate what it takes to merge into high speed traffic, and combine that with dense traffic lanes on I-90, I-95, I-93 at certain times and on certain days, then that is simply a recipe for disaster. There is no room to move, long stretches of dense highway are just a couple lanes, and everybod’s going somewhere between 60 to 80 MPH. YOU NEED TO GET UP TO SPEEED WHEN YOU’RE ENTERING TRAFFIC, and when the person in front of you (or merging into traffic if you’re in the right lane) is not doing that, then things can get really dangerous, very quickly.
Of course, we don’t know all the details… but this is a holiday weekend, and lots of folks would be traveling up there from all directions to get to the lakes all over, as well as the beaches in the east. If he’s just coming off this traumatic situation helping somebody potentially in danger on the side of the road, he could simply not have been entirely focused on entering the traveling lane.
Oh, I didn’t see that he wasn’t driving. But in either case, easy to get distracted… ironically if somebody else is driving, lots of chit chat, and they’re not paying attention to the driving.
Absolutely. Labor Day weekend. I went out Friday afternoon to run a normal errand, ran into so much more traffic that I wanted to rip my hair out. Then I realized why, not to mention preparation for school starting in the North on Tuesday.
Merging onto a higher is serious business, and I always treat it as such. Gaining sufficient speed is a must. Of course, there are some highway merger lanes that are insufficient in length, making the merge that much more dangerous.
They only give Tylenol now. No matter the pain.

Curious there’s no information about the vehicle that hit him. At least concerning potential injuries and occupant(s)….
I also assume other vehicle was severely damaged and stayed present at the scene, and not a hit and run.
The first page of this article discussion did include an NBC report with that information:

So, three injuries caused by a female teenage driver, including to herself.

So two major factors here…merging into any highway traffic, plus, more or less, inexperienced driver on the other end…

The best thing I read in the various reports I saw this morning was (I believe) a former staffer of the Mayor’s, saying “Rudy’s and animal.”
That’s my image of Hizzonner, regardless of his years, and I’m embracing it as I hold him up in prayer tonight.
He’ll recover from this. It was reported he should be out of the hospital an 3 or 4 days, which is very good news.

had the pleasure to meet Rudy way way back in 1986. At the time I was a young 3rd class petty officer assigned to perimeter maritime security on Governors Island New York. As a relatively new boarding officer…yes, enlisted men in the USCG who are responsible for crewing vessels are called boarding officers), I was assigned to a stretch of the river that encompassed about 20 miles of riverway. My team composed 8 vessels. The occassion was the 1985 centennial celebration. Invited list included primarily the French entourage as the US was actively seeking a memorandum of understanding for freedom of military airspace above France when performing various missions. (only the old folks know what I am actually talking about…..sigh…getting old sucks. So few of my friends are alive much less remember what happened during the late 80’s). Anyway, out of the blue in walks this Rudy G into my boat launch, extends his hand and asks me if I would take him “up the river”. I call the CO and he sex, your call. Okay never met him. KNEW him from the news and press but other than that, no clue why he would want to get underway for at least a 8 hour patrol. I tell Rudy. Sir, have you ever been on the water? Do you understand we are going to be on a law enforcement patrol for 8 hours and if we get into a situation, you are not to interfere and you are to be as “invisible” to my crew as possible.
He grins. Petty Officer “regitiger”, I have been involved in arresting almost ten percent of my entire police force in New York City. No matter what you might come across in this river cannot possibly be as challenging as that. I am just here to relax and see the city in a way that I really never had been able to.
He threw up twice. Most do. I never held it against him. He seemed like a genuine article.
later I would learn just how important he was to reforming the police in NYC, and also eliminating some of the most dangerous criminals. It also happened to be around the same time that I became aware of Donald Trump, the enigmatic New York developer and playboy.
Donald Trump was among the top invited VIP list hosted on Governors island. He flew in on his own private helo and landed on on the back 9 at governors island. Kind of got in “trouble” for doing that, because there was a heliport already established. When I look back it seems quite normal for Trump to do things differently…on his own terms.
I think this is what made Rudy and Donald such good friends.

Conspiracies are flying but to me it sounds like a careless teenage driver not paying attention to what they were doing behind the wheel.
