Former New York Mayor Rudi Giuliani, 81, is hospitalized with a fractured vertebrae and multiple cuts and bruises, including injuries specifically to his left arm and lower leg, after his rent-a-car was hit from behind while traveling in New Hampshire.

NEW YORK – “The accident occurred after he re-entered his vehicle, which was then hit from behind at high speed.”
Ragusa said Giuilani, who was mayor from 1994 through 2001, is recovering and in good spirts. “The mayor is in great spirits. He’s a beast. He survived 9/11,” Ragusa said.

It said he had re-entered his vehicle it did not say he was just re-entering the traffic flow.
Another part said he had left the scene and was driving down the highway.
But you’re right about the hit not being as he was re-entering traffic, according to the later passage, which makes me wonder if he had not yet reached highway speed when a careless driver not paying attention hit him. That or something more than careless.
Rudy’s security guy said that he was not targeted.
Perhaps an illegal on the loose driving improperly, or a drunk on the holiday weekend. Here nor there, I am so sorry Rudy was in this accident. I am praying he gets excellent care and will heal quickly. He is a tough man. It is a terrible thing and always horrible when the unexpected disrupts your life.

Were they injured?
Why did they drive into the rear side of Giuliani’s vehicle? Were they on the phone? Were they distracted in another way?
Was traffic stopped ahead and they failed to brake?
Was a field sobriety test done on the other driver?
What is the driving record of the other driver?

I’m thinking traffic stopped ahead and a distracted young woman driver barreling on without realizing it.
But it’s early yet for full facts.
I do know that sudden traffic snarl ups occur in the blink of an eye on New England highways. Texting is taking lives in hand.

Indicates the Giuliani vehicle driver pulled out into traffic without properly judging oncoming traffic speed and distance.

It could also be that something caused all traffic to slow down and the 19 year old driver was not paying attention and slammed into the rear of Giuliani’s vehicle.
I have experienced many times merging onto a freeway where the right hand lane is a mess because some people are trying to exit and others are trying to merge and everyone ends up going 30 mph which is a safe speed for the conditions. I have seen people wanting to merge or change lanes simply stop and brake causing near pile ups.
If 19 year old was texting and/or not paying attention then that could also be the cause.

The vehicle he was in was reported to be approached from behind by the impacting vehicle, meaning going in the same direction, NOT oncoming or ‘head on’.
A broken vertebrae at age 81 is life-threatening.
Hospitalization and immobilization can take a toll.

We went to many sporting events in the old Madison square Garden. Under his leadership we felt safe to park our car and from there walk long blocks to the Garden.

Makes you wonder if the two incidents were linked. Perhaps the abuser saw Mr. Giuliani helping his/her victim and decided to get revenge for his interference. Which would make the abuser an abuser of the weak… women, the elderly. If this is the case, he’s a craven, craven soul.

I thought the same initially, but looks like the driver of the vehicle that struck the one in which Rudy was a passenger is a young woman – Concord NH resident named Lauren Kemp.
Simple texting might be the answer. I’ve seen plenty of that on roads up in the area. And quick stops that are unavoidable without decent attention.
More likely she was a looky-loo looking at the police officers on the other side of the road.

I was beside a woman staring down at a phone and laid on the horn and she didn’t react at all!
That area of 93 near Concord can back up suddenly. I do not recall there being a turnaround in the median in that region, but he could have turned around and entered 93 north on the exit ramp when he was hit. Hitting hard enough so that both vehicles wind up in the median heavily damaged means there was a large difference in speed.
My prayers go out to Rudy and all parties injured. It looks like an accident with an inexperienced driver on the freeway.
It’s lucky at least that he was right there in Manchester where the good hospitals are.
Had he been way up north or over in the lakes region, like so many are right now, this all would have gone quite differently.

Gen Patton died in a car accident too. I believe Patton was murdered and this may have been an attempt on Guiliani.
It sounds like an unfortunate accident that happened as the vehicle Giuliani was in entered the traffic flow. Someone else was driving. From the report, he was on the opposite side of the highway, not the incident side. So no flashing lights on that side unless that gets clarified.
Mr Giuliani has been through a lot lately. Prayers that he recovers from all this.

Not with her car parked on the side of the freeway. Homeless stay in town. The DV victim wasn’t a she. It was a he. She beat him up so badly he was hospitalized. What a mess three people including an 81 year old seriously injured because of that witch.
