my Dad was a medic, went ashore at Normandy after North Africa duty and ended up at Battle of the Bulge
brought his Medic helmet home from the war
it had a big bullet crease across one of the red crosses
there also was a big teeth gouge across the wood butt of his M1 carbine from when it went hand-to-hand
