Top of the suspects list would be one of the Awan family who reportedly had access to many democrat congressmen emails and accounts because they were hired by Debbie Wasserman Shultz to provide IT services.
The access became a scandal causing some of them to flee the country. Because they screwed up, it’s likely DWS was pissed, and demanded in exchange for their protection and hers, they “take care of” the Seth Rich problem who was suspected of leaking DNC emails. I’m going to speculate that the Awans misinterpreted “take care of” and deep state Debbie did what the deep state does.
Of course I’m just guessing but……..
Why is the FBI still fighting to keep from releasing this information? So much seems to be riding on the truth of what happened and if he was the source of the leaked information, not Russia.

In May 2019 former House Oversight Chairman Trey Gowdy stated there are emails from former FBI Director James Comey that outline instructions from CIA Director John Brennan to include the “Crown Material” within the highly political Intelligence Community Assessment.
Specifically outlined by Gowdy, the wording of the Comey email is reported to say:
…”Brennan is insisting the Crown Material be included in the intel assessment.”
However, on May 23rd, 2017, in testimony -under oath- to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) John Brennan stated [@01:54:28]:
GOWDY: Director Brennan, do you know who commissioned the Steele dossier?
BRENNAN: I don’t.
GOWDY: Do you know if the bureau [FBI] ever relied on the Steele dossier as part of any court filing, applications?
BRENNAN: I have no awareness.
GOWDY: Did the CIA rely on it?
BRENNAN: No.
GOWDY: Why not?
BRENNAN: Because we didn’t. It wasn’t part of the corpus of intelligence information that we had. It was not in any way used as a basis for the Intelligence Community Assessment that was done. Uh … it was not.

Oh goodness – is Trey Gowdy going to find some way to redeem his failure while heading the House Oversight Committee?
Could it be one of those things where these career politicians find the means to hold CIA, FBI and other agency operatives to account in such a manner where these politicians, the Gowdy, Ratcliffe, Chuck Grassley’s of the world come out on top as ‘avengers of the constitution’ for the 2028 election cycle, all because the liars Comey, Brennan, Clapper, Schiff, Vindeman’s have made them look like fools?

Say what you want about Trey Gowdy, he probably deserves some of it. But this 2-min evisceration of Comey and Clinton is very likely the reason PDJT beat Hillary in 2016.

I can’t recall the details, but the FBI was moving on creation of this “Russia hoax” as early as October or November 2015. NOT 2016. I’ll have to comb through 4 years of my bookmarks and notes to see if I can come up with the event to support this. Just call it .. um… “informed speculation” for now. It was the very first time that my eyes popped open, because Nov 2015 proceeded everything the DOJ/FBI ever said about probable cause to begin their investigation a year later.

A newly released CIA review challenges their sworn denials to Congress that the Steele dossier – a discredited set of allegations about Trump funded by Hillary Clinton’s campaign – was used as the basis for the years-long Russiagate probe that hamstrung President Trump’s first term.

It wasn’t an attempt to undermine or derail. It was an attempt to a) illegal cover up Hillary Clinton’s illegal email system, and b) to overthrow Pres. Trump using impeachment.
Regardless of how pretty you try to make it sound, it is illegal to use your official office to deprive other people of their constitutional rights using the authority of your office. And it is illegal to do that to swing an election or to overturn an election, too.
The coup plotters very carefully used their official offices to make it look like the illegal thing they were doing was legal. I think that is roughly the definition of “deprivation of rights under color of law”.
