Regardless, of structural underpinning, the removal of a demonstrably, perhaps purposefully ineffective attorney from the Southern District of New York, who happens to be the daughter of one of the most political FBI Directors in history, was something very much needed.
According to Politico, Maurene Comey has been fired from the DOJ office.
NEW YORK – Maurene Comey, who prosecuted Jeffrey Epstein and is former FBI Director James Comey’s daughter, was fired Wednesday from her job in the Manhattan U.S. attorney’s office, according to two people familiar with the matter who were granted anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.
The reason for her firing was not immediately clear. She did not immediately respond to phone calls and an email seeking comment. Spokespeople for the Justice Department and the U.S. attorney’s office declined to comment.
Comey, who had worked in the U.S. attorney’s office for nearly a decade, prosecuted both Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell. (read more)
The timing of her removal does not seem coincidental.
Think of cases with lists of powerful and very blackmailable people. Epstein, Maxwell, brinkmanship-Fried, Diddy. She was there.

I doubt they would actually destroy evidence, but they certainly would be able to pick and choose what they provided to Bondi’s office and claim the rest lost or never existed, etc.

After the outrage, maybe Patel and Bongino doubled down and looked for themselves or had trusted people looking for missing or “misfiled” data.

No, not a diversion. She had to finish the Diddy trial. With her out of DOJ perhaps now they can push the conspiracy investigation involving Brennan, Clapper and Comey. There had to be a concern about moving on that while she was still there. She no doubt has friends who are future fires that the DOJ must be wary of concerning leaking.
It amazes me that everybody thinks Trump should have done every single thing they’re told is a thing, on day 1, and if he didn’t, that’s some sort of failure. She was an Assistant US Attorney and probably one of many serving at that level in that office. She was not the actual US Attorney for that office and not a political appointee, so if the President was firing all the US Attorney holdovers it would not have reached down to her. Still, I am also curious why she was not ushered out the door much sooner.

This was a high profile case, with serious RICO charges, a lot of publicity, and great expectations. He was acquitted on the serious charges, and only convicted on two charges of transporting people across state lines for prostitution.
Want to know how weak her case was? Diddy did not call a single witness. His lawyers just chipped away at Comey’s evidence until it mostly fell apart. They didn’t even need to put on any witnesses of their own.
To be honest he should have walked on the transportation charges. He was convicted of transporting his girlfriend to a threesome with another guy, from New York to New Jersey (15 miles). So to be o.k. with that you have to say his girlfriend is a prostitute. He was found guilty of transporting his girlfriend, not the male.
I know people hate the guy but he never should have been convicted of that, and I’d imagine he’ll get it overturned on appeal.
He should have been charged with 12 lesser charges that they could actually get a conviction on. So I’m not sure why they even brought the case.
