This does a few things, it provides for transparency & comfort that while this may take years to conclude, it won’t take years for accountability to start being served. Also, it allows for the rats an opportunity to start rolling on each other in order to get a plea deal or immunity deal for cooperation. This is the only way to really start revealing the truth & getting confessions.

This scandal did not just affect the USA. President Putin and by extension the country of Russia was drawn into something it did not ask to be drawn into. I am not a Putin basher because I am of the belief that he wants to keep the country of Russia sovereign to itself. I may be out on my own little limb, and you can call me naive, but I think President Putin holds a little hostility against the USA government, the people who perpetrated an attempted coup and the people who continue to cover for an international conspiracy to tie together him and Trump as collaborators in an election. This investigation will result in nothing more than another waste of tax dollars. 

I’m a little more sanguine about this ‘development’, than most posters here (though I can understand the scepticism), because it does fit into the phased approach that Trump seems to be taking, methodically crossing off a series of objectives. Phase One was weathering the storm, establishing credibility and enacting the agenda, by overwhelming the opposition and getting inside their decision loops. Phase Two was the establishment of the agenda, and targeting the opposition by forced exposure, recce by fire, and precise take-downs (in the case of eliminating the Iranian Casus belli, quite literally). It was also the preliminary prep for the mid-terms and, IMHO, the beginning of the direct assault on the DS.

This use of 100 day pre-planned phases allows time to deal with all the unexpected problems, and then try to align their solutions so that they match or link to one of the planned ones. This way, any surprises that the DS throw towards Team Trump can have their disruptive potential greatly reduced, something that was largely absent from the first administration, who believed they could power through the webs being spun, simply by enacting the MAGA. This time they’ve learnt to avoid the webs entirely, nearly side-stepping, then punching hard at the spinners themselves.

If they therefore have discovered evidence of the Epstein files being weaponised, by alteration, fabrication and redaction, so that enacting the MAGA agenda becomes politically deadly for the mid-terms and Trump’s legacy, (a crucial necessity for a DS comeback) then they have had time to come up with a contingent plan of action that is supported by the current phased approach. In this scenario Bondi and Patel sound the alarm on the booby trapped files and Trump slams the engines into reverse, causing much complaint, but no mutiny (not yet at any rate) due to the success of the, ‘promises made promises kept’ of Phase One. Phase Two was always going end with the start of the investigation of the DS so they decide to defuse this ‘bomb’ by directly attacking the credibility of its makers, by showing how they’ve tried this trick before, on at least three separate occasions.

If this is the plan, then by simply announcing an investigation into the background behind RussiaGate, et al, with strong, easily understandable, evidence of corruption and malpractice they not only are carrying out the plan, but they are also beginning to snip the wires of the device, prepared by the DS, of the self-triggered device. Tackling this issue, not only placates supporters but reinforces the ground for the Phase Three, winning the mid-terms so that an even more MAGA agenda can be passed, paving the way for 2028 and a new Phase One.

I’m optimistic. The Epstein controversy has lit a fire under Pam Bondi. She had already won 13 victories for Trump at the Supreme Court, but that wasn’t good enough for MAGA. On Friday she fired the ethics director at the Department of Justice and 20 who had investigated Trump. Bondi is taking on the anti-Trump conspirators!
