In a 6-3 Supreme Court decision today, the majority have blocked a lower court ruling that stopped the Trump administration Dept of Education from downsizing the federal agency.
The justices apparently voted 6-3 to stay the lower court ruling with the DEI justices (gay, latino, black) filing a 19-page dissent. [SEE RULING HERE] The high court lifted an injunction a federal judge in Boston granted in May against the firing of Dept of Education bureaucrats.
The lower court judge ruled the staff cuts were so drastic they would prevent the department from carrying out duties mandated by Congress. He also said the mass firings appeared to be part of Trump’s plan to eliminate the Education Department entirely, despite a lack of congressional authorization to do so.
Today, the Supreme Court again affirmed the President is within his power to control the size and scope of the executive branch.
WASHINGTON DC – “Education Secretary Linda McMahon called the decision “a significant win for students and families,” but she added in a statement: “It is a shame that the highest court in the land had to step in to allow President Trump to advance the reforms Americans elected him to deliver using the authorities granted to him by the U.S. Constitution.”
The Education Department announced its so-called reduction in force in March, giving affected workers a termination date of June 10. Those layoffs had been temporarily halted by the lower-court injunction. But shortly after the Supreme Court’s ruling Monday, some affected employees received an email informing them that they will now be terminated on Aug. 1. (read more)

Let them provide a national database, open to the public on line, of all investigations of actions against teachers and other school employees and administrators, and the outcome of each investigation.
This will allow parents to stop child molesters with teaching degrees from transferring into their districts.
The states can do that. Not the feds.

It does make sense for the feds to be held responsible for maintaining a database of all the states, and holding the individual states accountable for keeping their respective databases up to date.
Someone that’s been under investigation might be inclined to cross over state lines to “leave their past behind.”
Most teacher applications include authorization to have the state police do background checks on the applicants. The state police have access to national criminal databases. In far too many cases, school administrators don’t have the intestinal fortitude to actually prosecute teachers who commit crimes against children in the courts or with the certification agencies of the states (don’t even think about National Boards which only pass out certificates but don’t oversee them, only renew them). Some administrators will offer offenders the option to resign without being outed. It wouldn’t matter at that point how much digging you do. Empty holes generally don’t reveal anything!
Happens in large cities like say Chicago. Teacher does a horrible thing and just transfers to a suburb. Then they repeat and leave the state all the while leaving a total mess in their wake.
No they can not. For that matter neither can the inept feds in many cases. Think Epstein, but at a city and county level. Kids of no political or financial cover being groomed. Worse, administrators doing nothing because they are either in on it, or do not want the embarrassment on their watch.
In the few cases I had brought to my attention, it was boys being molested in record numbers not the girl. They were being watched to closely by vigilant fathers.

Schools of Education should be renamed to what they really accomplish. They should be called Schools of Indoctrination. For most serious teachers, their “education” education is a complete and total waste of time looking at the psychology of the child (as related to gender and race) and trends in education (testing is bad, self-esteem is more important than learning, etc).
First, poll parents nationally and ask for the 50 most desirable traits in a teacher and then compile a list of the 50 most often named traits from the poll. Take those 50 traits and poll recent graduates in education programs to see how many of those traits are actually being discussed in the education programs. Truly discussed–pro and con–for multiple class sessions. I doubt seriously that what parents of successful students want to see in a teacher and what the teacher training/indoctrination programs actually spend time on will actually overlap!
Look at the AFT. They keep “voting in” Randi Wine-garden. If they really cared about education, then the leaders of these education unions would be in for one two year term and then not re-electable. As currently in place, these union leaders are like members of the Senate–once they get in and get their own pockets lined, they influence those below them to stir the pot on challengers so they have a life-long gig at gagging real progress!

Local control of education boards. Sure there were state boards but most decisions were made at the local level.
Sadly, we have succumbed to the opinion that bigger is always better. By that, those in charge mean that by being bigger, it is easier to hide things that they do not want parents to know they are doing TO their children.
If you don’t believe that, just think back to 2020-2022 when many public schools were in full lockdown and students remained at home to be “taught” remotely. The teachers’ unions were outraged that parents were actually supervising their children during the
indoctrinationteaching of the students. Why was that? Teachers didn’t want to be in the classroom with these germ-laden students but also didn’t want parents spying on them and the job they were/weren’t doing. That was one of the few good things that happened because of covid. Parents got a first hand look at the garbage posing as education.
Twenty-five years ago, when my son was in high school, the District announced that 50 students would receive free lunches, as they would otherwise not get a lunch. It was free since the federal government was paying for it. At the time, I questioned the number 50, since it was neither 51 nor 49.
Four years later, 80% of students were receiving full or some federal assistance for lunches. Then talk came about breakfast and dinner.
During Covid lockdowns, the local public schools kept one thing open 3x a day: the “free meals” programs. Every day there were lines at the school of parents there to pick up their “free” food.
Didn’t the Defense Department institute the school lunch program because so many potential cannon fodder kids had been stunted by malnutrition?

Also, I got a kick out of the old “people of color hardest hit” trope. And they come right out and say that enrollment declines were slowed by an influx of “migrant” students…ie illegals.
When I was teaching, the school started a precipitous decline because of three things:
– massive influx of non English speaking “migrant” kids
– a big push for DEI (they made us watch videos on the 1619 Project, for example)
– a principal from DPS (Denver Public Schools) was brought in to impose all of this on the overwhelmingly white middle class school

Bonus observation: in the linked report they cite parent choice (charter schools) as the main drain on public school enrollment. People are fleeing DPS.
Democrats own the state at every level, but they haven’t figured out how to crack the charter school “problem” that has the public schools in steep decline.

While Trump can’t eliminate the department without congressional approval, he can transfer what few useful programs it has over to HHS (which was the Department of Health, Education and Welfare before Jimmy Carter gave the teachers union their own cabinet-level department).
Leave a shell of a department, and move them out of their office building to offices appropriate for the size of the remaining staff. Then re-purpose or sell the building.
Then do the same with Carter’s Department of Energy – move the few useful programs to Interior and gut the staffing at Energy. Then on to LBJ’s HUD – move the few useful programs to Commerce, and leave a shell.

He single-handedly forced a generation of school children to rack up the commuter miles as they traveled across the city to go to school in a strange neighborhood rather than attend the school down the street from their home. All in the name of “desegregation.” Non of the children wanted it. Non of the parents wanted it. And it cost the city millions in transportation expenses. No telling how much it cost the kids in opportunities lost as they spent precious time stuck in city traffic. All because a federal judge felt it was best “for the children.”

At what point will radical leftists understand that just because the Treasury has the ability to print more money, it does not do so without BORROWING that same amount and, at present, interest alone is crushing our economy from where it could be. The US government is the largest employer in the country and even larger than most people realize when you factor in benefits for those who largely choose not to work. Members of Congress have, for years, spent beyond our means believing that some magic fairy would one day pay back the loans. Well, the fairy has yet to appear and we are now working on a second unborn generation to pay back current debt. Scale back.
If you want the people who work at the Dept of Ed to be employed, tell them to apply in school systems across the country. Almost every state is currently experiencing a teacher shortage, especially in poor, rural areas. Sure there would be some education coursework to be taken but put them to work in the schools where they might make a positive impact rather than leaving them in DC to put more work on already overburdened schools!
