If I would have been wearing one in 1995, I would not be where I am at today.
Had a new roof put on house and shed 2 weeks ago.
I had been trying for 3 years to stop the leaking in the deteriorated shed roof shingles, to no avail.
I was able to stop the “leaking like a sieve”, but half the decking of OSB had to be redone.
About 3/4 of the 3/8″ decking on the 1967 house had to be replaced as well, due to inadequate ventilation.
Asphalt shingle roof on the house was last done 21 years ago, so it was time.
They have even longer lasting materials now.

IMO your response should be to ask what predicament are both of you going to be in if an injury or death occurs because of an ill advised DIY attempt?

At the beginning 3-4 years ago I was able to stand on that shed roof to try and stop leaks with caulking and then asphalt roofing/ foundation sealer.
Then a year or two ago I could only safely crawl “crab style” on my butt because of a newly developed knee issue. So I gave up. Too much trouble and other things to do to set up scaffolding. Cannot spend much time standing on ladder rungs.
The issue with the ankles was a fall from a ladder 40 feet off ground, bouncing off a different shed roof 10 ft off ground.
Good for a helicopter ride to the local Trauma ICU because my feet were half ripped off hitting the angled roof. On a rafter, so I did not go through and get impaled.
I got too close to a 4800 volt line at the top of a pole and the current arced to a grounded drill I was holding, which is why I fell off ladder in the first place.
No paralysis or Kidney/Liver transplant required from high voltage damage.

That was a long time ago. When I was getting electrocuted at the top of that wooden ladder (powerless to do anything), I prayed, “LORD, is it time for me to be with you yet?” I had just finished attending a weekend Bible conference with a guest speaker from Chicago.
Everything went black and when I opened my eyes, I was laying on my back in the garden looking up at where I fell from. However, instead of my feet pointing up, both of them were laying on the ground to the left of my legs, pointing up at my head. So I had to lay there and wait for someone to find me.
My brother and nephew were suppose to go to my grandmother’s house for pizza. They swung by the house here first and found me.
I am thankful, the wheelchair was only temporary. But it took years to be able to walk and chew gum at the same time.
No limp, either.
I am glad that things are working out for you. Taking risks is not worth it. I found out later someone from the church group had a fall harness I could have borrowed.
I did not know, I was living and working on the other side of NYS at the time. Came back for my grandfather’s funeral the previous week. I was able to get the week off, I was planning on coming back for the conference.

Mornin’ dear lady . . . I put down mod-bit roofing on my low-slope back-roof. Did it myself about 5 years ago. Mod-bit is pretty impervious but my install left something to be desired. The roof is surrounded by a parapet and I didn’t do a good job of seam sealing where the mod-bit meets the edge. So . . . I’m getting higher quality seam tape for the mod-bit/parapet edge. My goal is to create an edge to edge waterproof membrane. The problem is that 100 year old pier-and-beam house are constantly moving and this causes persistent leaks . . . If this doesn’t do the job I’ll call in a proper roofer. 🙂

We had to finally hire professionals to redo our tile roof on the house a few years back – hated to admit we weren’t up to it, but alas!
The front part of my house is a traditional pitched tile roof. Step 2 will be to replace the tile’s underlayment which I have found is a usual source of tile-roof leaking. I know how to carefully remove the tiles, but know better than to even attempt that job now.
I have a good roofer who is familiar with our vintage houses (’29) so if the roof seams aren’t the problem, I’ll let his guys work on step 2. Yeah, I know how to walk on a tile roof but recognize that’s a job better left to 30 year olds.

Additionally, the tiles are heavy and must be stacked so as not to place too much weight in any one stack. Tough to admit you can’t do what you did 40 years ago!

Israel Update:
I was quiet for some days. We are in between the end of the war with Iran to what’s next?
So let me take an advantage here and take a broader look at where we are, what happened and why, and what’s next.
-Geo-Political causes of the 10/7:
10/7 happened for more than one reason. And I am not talking about the military and Intel failures. That is another subject.
The largest problem that the US had world wide is the Chinese increased power and the
Chinese/Iranian/Russian alliance. Within this included the Russian invasion to Ukraine and their use of Iranian weapon system. Within this includes that the US never liked that Europe is dependent on the Russian oil. Trump tried to persuade Germany to not depend on Russian oil. The Russians have pipes to parts of Europe.
The US plan was to make Israel Normalize relationship with the Saudis. Grant the Saudis a Defense treaty with the US. And, build a large pipeline line that goes through Saudi Arabia and through Haifa Israel to Europe. This would have saved tens of dollars on every barrel that is now transported through a long shipping route. It would also solidify the Israeli Saudi relations and open doors to an expansion of the Abraham Accord, peace. And all that without a Palestinian State.
Then came the TV Interview of the Saudi Prince in the US and he said “yes”. He had no problem moving on the plan. This plan would have knocked out the Russian oil supply to Europe. Russia to a large degree depends on it.
So now I can only imagine, Putin not happy after the interview, makes a phone call to his Iranian friends and the Iranian friends are calling Sinwar in Gaza and Boom!
Additionally inside Israel there was a struggle between the Deep State and the Govenment.
The Government tired to make a Judicial reform that would break the grip of the Deep State on everything through their complete control of the Judiciary branch. This is a long subject but we had some crazy protests in the streets and some high Ex-Generals called to “not show up for Reserve Duty if the Reform is taking place”. This was watched by Sinwar and we have evidence that it was a factor too. They thought that we are weakest internally. Needless to mention that in a real time of war everyone showed up and beyond.
–Iran: Iran is defiant. Khamenei declared Trump and Bibi, “enemies of God”. That means that Muslims should kill them. His advisors are very extreme and calling to wipe Israel off the map shortly. They call to restore the nuclear program fast. The Foreign Minister left a door for diplomacy “only if the US stops threatening”. He is “The Good Cop”.
As of now they will do everything they could to make a nuclear bomb if possible and rebuild the operations that were destroyed. They will try to purchase better Air defenses and they apparently already have people shopping around in China and they demand the Advanced Russian systems. As of now, if the Iranians will not topple the regime we are heading to another war in the future. Israel will have to be smart because they will learn their lessons.
There is also an option of negotiations with the US. That could be the best. If they agree to chill and change direction. Not likely but possible.
-So now there is a lot of talk about “peace in the Middle East”. Rumors from Trump’s direction about “many more to be joining the Abraham Accord”. I hate to spoil it to anyone but “In the jungle the wolves do not turn into sheep”.
Now, I would love to be wrong but here is the situation.
The Saudis want the war in Gaza to end before they make a move. They also want a serious effort in the direction of a Two State Solution. Israel will not do a Two State Solution.
Definitely not after 10/7 that they demonstrated what they do when we give them land.
So there can be a kind of a promise to negotiate the matter but it will not resolve. Biden wanted to reform the Palestinian Authority and let them control Gaza. They don’t want to reform. Their goal is to eliminate Israel. It’s a dead-end. The Saudis can surprise us in a good way but it’s not likely. They like to play safe.
–Syria: So the focus is on Syria. Trump just lifted the sanctions on Syria.
The talk of the day is about Normalization with Syria. I hate to spoil the party but Syria is a radical land of ISIS, Al Qaeda and even the Regime is inclined to this direction if you watch them closely on the ground. Some really bad massacres of who they consider different is permitted to spiral out of control too. The regime does not control all of Syria. There are also Druze lands, Kurds areas, Turks too took over some, Israel took some, the Alawites (the former regime sect) is also in a specific areas. Now there is also a radical ISIS type group who want to take over and kill the President.
Things in Syria are unstable and can shift in a day.
Do the Syrians want peace with Israel? NO.
What do they want? They want the sanctions to lift permanently, they want Israel out of Syria. They want Israel out of the Golan Heights. Ideally they want Jerusalem too.
Do Israel want peace with Syria? Defiantly yes! But not at the cost of serious security issues.
Will Israelis travel to Syria? No. To many Jihadists and terrorists.
Did the Syrian President change from a wanted terrorist of Al Qaeda and become a moderate? The West is buying it. We are not sure.
So there are a few options here:
There is also a possibility that a neutral force will be there, more likely to happen.
Not Ideal for Israel. We don’t have a good past width UN forces, it’s easy to kick them
out in a time of war. But this is a possibility that Israel may agree.
But, if the Syrians decide to leave the Golan Heights (owned by Israel since 1967) as a point of discussion later. Everything above is useless. The old border is indefensible. I can explain why but just take my world on it for now. They seat right above our towns and cities.
So making us leave Syria and leaving an option of changing their mind later about the Normalization because of the Golan Heights will not be agreed by Israel.
So be knowledgeable. Don’t blindly buy into a “Trump the peace maker” theme if something bad is shoved down Israel’s throat. But if we have a real Normalizations under the above two terms and with a resolution of the Golan Heights dispute, then a party would be deserved.
So long as they omit antisemite and hate texts from their textbooks like the UAE did.
And remember that their leader could be assasinated if he does a deal with Israel.
That will turn things around too.
Those who remember, the Egyptian President who did peace with Israel was assassinated because of it. So was the Christian Leader of Lebanon was assassinated by Hezbollah when he was heading to peace with Israel. So peace is a dangerous and fragile commodity in the Middle East. I watched the Prince of Saudi Arabia turn back away from Normalization with Israel. He clearly said that “he doesn’t want to be assassinated”. He is waiting for more agreeable circumstances than a war in Gaza. And this lead me to the last subject that is Gaza.
Gaza: We need to decide what is next. We are now holding 60% of the land. Before the last operation Gideon’s Chariots, we had some 35%. The aim of the Operation is 75%.
I just heard that the IDF was tied up with Iran for some 6 months. Internal IDF Information.
There were many preparations for Iran.
So now we can deal with it faster. Too much aid still arrives to Hamas. The Government is pressing the IDF to solve it. Still daily 20-90 killed in Gaza including a longer list of participants of 10/7 and some higher command. Still blowing up tunnels and clearing areas.
The options are:
But as of now all the weight of Trump is on the Qataris and Egyptians and whoever else has a hand in the area. They want Hamas to disarm and leaders to go to exile. Not something that they want to do. I only pray that Trump will push on Hamas and not on Israel to do a bad option for its future. Any perception that Hamas won will have a ripple effect on all the Jihad terror organizations in the world and Jews will be subjected to kidnapping world wide.
I think and pray that Bibi and Trump will once again be coordinated and end the war with an Israeli victory, hostages home and a peace deal to follow.
-Bibi is going to visit Trump at the White House the coming Monday.
-4.5 billion dollars deal with Romania. They want the Iron Dome and other missiles.
Germany also had a multi billion dollar deal earlier for Arrow 3.
Others will want it too. I just find out that our natural Gas fields in the ocean are appearing to be larger than expected and a new field was discovered.
Israeli stock market is at highest Evers.
Israeli Shekel is getting stronger. While Iranian currency dropped to a new low.
42,112 Rials equal 1 dollar. Iranian stock market is on a dive too.
Their lies don’t pass the financial reality.
-Trump is saying that Israel agreed to the terms of a 60 days ceasefire. He threatened Hamas to better accept it as it will only get worse for them. Said that during the 60 days will discuss the end of the war.
Note: They refused it before. We shall see now. They demanded a commitment to end the war which I explained that will not work with us unless they leave or disarm. So we are at the same place as before only now after we weakened Iran.

COMMENTARY FOR 1 CORINTHIANS 2
“The plain manner in which the apostle preached Christ crucified. (1-5) The wisdom contained in this doctrine. (6-9) It cannot be duly known but by the Holy Spirit.” (10-16)
10-16 God has revealed true wisdom to us by his Spirit. Here is a proof of the Divine authority of the Holy Scriptures, #2Pe 1:21|. In proof of the Divinity of the Holy Ghost, observe, that he knows all things, and he searches all things, even the deep things of God. No one can know the things of God, but his Holy Spirit, who is one with the Father and the Son, and who makes known Divine mysteries to his church. This is most clear testimony, both to the real Godhead and the distinct person of the Holy Spirit. The apostles were not guided by worldly principles. They had the revelation of these things from the Spirit of God, and the saving impression of them from the same Spirit. These things they declared in plain, simple language, taught by the Holy Spirit, totally different from the affected oratory or enticing words of man’s wisdom. WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.

Prayers update. Months ago I reported that a friend had slipped on the ice and badly damaged her spine on cement steps.
Today she underwent surgery. The objective was to remove bone splinters haunting the spinal chord and relieve pain from some bones pressing.
I juar got word that she is out of post-surgery recovery and the surgeon reports that things went as he planned and all is well.

Hello, I am the wife of “Dutchman”, who has frequented this site for many years.
He has been in a hospital for a week, and plans to be there longer while dealing with various cancer-related issues.
He did not have a good cell phone charger (the android phone being his method of online use), but he has one now.
Dutchman has been in a hospital since June 25th. He now has a new trach tube.
He has a “mass” in his throat, partially occluding his airway. If they are going to remove it, he thinks they will take the thyroid, lymph glands and voice box.
Then he will use a Servox (electronic speaking device). He calls it “talking like Darth Vader” – he finds humor wherever possible.
As a whole, he has always been 100% involved in meds that are prescribed, procedures that are suggested, and maintaining open communication with all staff members (even if he needs to write everything down – with almost no vocal cords functioning anymore).
Perhaps he will jump back in here, sometime. He obviously misses y’all or he would not have texted me the request to provide an update.
