Sorry, what a laughable take. So, as a person or society, I am not trying to improve my life? What do I have in bringing in other cultures to do the work we once did? Who is we? Are you a slave? Are you talking about America or the world? Because you do know, it was never “we” who did this kind of thing. Because if it was we, weren’t we improving our lives because we had such skills? And then we gave that skill to who? Slaves of the world? It is such a generalized take.
To live simply? Help me with that one. Are we still in the Garden or the Roman Empire or the Crusades or the French Revolution or where are we? We have been trampled upon through history so what does that mean to live simply? Isn’t that what most Americans do? Where am I living out of control?

I’m a third generation Californian…no longer. Hubbs and I left the OC in ’21 for one of the fully red Southern states. Its sad to see what was once a beautiful place go to absolute s%#t.
I’ll always remember the smell of orange blossoms in spring – so intense it would induce a high (really!). The summer morning air was wonderful. My grandmother lived in Fullerton, where we could hear the Disneyland fireworks going off every evening at 9:00. Balboa Island, Laguna and Newport were fabulous – I lived in both Laguna and Newport.
Now, because such a large % of tax dollars go to supporting illegals, the I-10 is full of potholes, the 90 and 57 freeway interchange is neglected, with weeds growing everywhere (as are so many other areas). Graffiti and trash is everywhere. Today, you couldn’t pay me to go to LA or San Francisco.
No way was I going to continue to pay tax dollars to a corrupt state, supporting the illegal population being groomed as the next Dimcrap voting bloc – blacks and Hispanics no longer fully reliable as they’re seeing/living the reality of life on the Dimcrap plantation.
It was once a fabulous place. Hubbs grew up surfing Trestles in San Clemente. Life was a breeze.
Now, the talking head politicians spewing their bs on news media about the LA insurrection, telling us we’re not seeing what we’re seeing, speak with Spanish accents. F ’em all.
I grew up in Fullerton and remember well the orange and lemon blossoms from the orchards that grew below our house. My grand parents lived in Laguna and I spent summers there. It was paradise. I moved to Laguna after graduating high school in ’73 and could easily afford the studio apt I rented across the street from Heisler park. I had a car that I owned, a decent job, a surfboard and a girlfriend who loved the beach as much as I did. I have since moved to rural Ca (back country San Diego County) and I hate to say this but I hate Laguna. I have several life long friends who I see every few years, but it has changed, for the worst.
Hard to believe, but OC used to be ultra conservative. Richard Nixon “Son of OC” was born in Yorba Linda and went to Fullerton Union High School (so did I). OC was called behind the Orange Curtain Not any more!

Fullerton, even though inland, was really nice (I lived there in the ’70s – mid ’80s). Attended law school there. You’re absolutely right about the conservatism – was known as living behind “the Orange Curtain”.
Laguna had a huge gay population going way back. Before they demoed the “Old Main Beach” in the early ’70’s there was a bar called “Dantes Inferno” just north of the Hotel Laguna. Main beach was pretty seedy and with the demo of the commercial businesses on the ocean side of the hwy everyone thought the Gays would move along. They did! “The Little Shrimp ” and the “Boom Boom Room” became their hang out. Cress street was the dividing line. I’ve heard that occasionally a wayward gay person would wander into “The Sandpiper/ dirty bird” and leave with the crowd chasing them out lol.
The Little Shrimp was still going strong when I lived there. Hubbs told me that guys from the San Clemente High School wrestling team chose to show off their training as the Little Shrimp patrons left late at night…

It sure is odd that Epstein and Maxwell got charged with trafficking children, but no one ever got charged with abusing the trafficked children. I would have thought that the logical order of these things is to establish that a crime against a child occurred by convicting someone for child abuse. Then charge the people who trafficked that child into that situation. But amazingly no one has ever been charged with child abuse.
Bondi tells us there are thousands of hours of video of children being abused. Presumably the video includes the abusers – especially if the video was blackmail purposes. At the very least the video is time stamped and the flight logs tell the FBI who was on the island at the time. Seems pretty simple starting point for a criminal investigation. Yet no one seems to be being investigated with child abuse. It’s like charging someone with selling stolen goods without ever proving the goods were stolen in the first place. It seems pretty odd to me.

You have to remember that JAG, much like the medical corps, is comprised quite often of civilian who sign up after college to get the military to pay for their college. They don’t have the same kind of vetting or indoctrination to the military that everyone else does.
(Getting a med school or law school slot out of an academy or as a follow on to your four year ROTC degree is almost impossible. The military has already paid for an educated O-1 at that point and they want you in uniform, not in school. So most of these people are recruited after the fact. Most of them are barely military at all.)

Looks like the Trump administration is doing a great job expanding the surveillance state and making the 5th amendment totally irrelevant.
POTUS never explicitly promised a “surveillance state” on the campaign trail, but some of the policies associated with Project 2025 have raised concerns about the potential for expanded government surveillance capabilities.
I guess what I am saying is – 80 million people voted for this.
As is always the case in a representative democracy, voters have to vote for candidates who represent baskets of policies. They don’t get to vote for each individual policy and it’s rare that they’ll agree with every policy in the basket of the candidate they vote for. As you’re probably aware, voters often vote for the candidate with the basket of policies they dislike the least.
I questioned Project 2025, I thought it was awful. If we were just going to get globalism anyway what was the point of voting?

None of the information being gathered is new infotmation that the government does not already have.
After begging for months, I still await an explanation of how the ability to get this information on someone within seconds significantly differs from the ability to just use a collection program to search the various databases and compile this information within minutes. The ability to do this has been available fpr decades. And without a search warrant since it’s already reported information.
The only thing I myself can come up with is, assuming the implementation of a secondary program, to automate and throw out inconsistencies (e.g. individual registered to vote in multiple states), such that a deliberate search on a particular person does not need to be made (although it’s unclear where and to whom this would be reported).

First off, if the government has it, it’s not “confidential” except, maybe to most members of the general public.
Four decades ago there were programs that would go out and get all public and sometimes not-so-public state and federal government records (as well as certain kinds of “private” records, such as utility, phone, credit, medical database, etc.). I and my detectives had them for various uses, such as skip tracing, finding assets, collecting judgments, etc.
Inside the federal government and individual state governments, everything already is available. Over time — and I always thought this was a bad idea from a potential hacking standpoint — various databases were connected, so that, e.g. the VA didn’t have to send nightly runner over to the DOD to verify retirement information.
Over the same time, the information that the government — and every law enforcement agency — already has access to has expanded because of cell phones, internet and electronic filings, toll road monitoring, public cameras, and so forth. Only some of this requires a warrant, beause most of either it is public or is private industry information that is not “private”.
I realize that the vast amount of information that government officials already rapidly can get is shocking to many people who have never considered it. (How many still don’t consider that they are effectively being tracked just by carrying cell phones, or driving a late-model car, or wearing a fitbit, or using credit cards.)
So my question continues to be: what more is it that is going to be “tracked” that is not already effectively “tracked”?

I didn’t respond to your question about “private industry”. Cell phone and internet, medical records, insurance records, credit records, utility records, and so forth, all are private industries. If, e.g., you go for a loan at a bank or from an auto dealer, bingo, in seconds, your financial history is available. Every private detective I used could get a list of all phone calls someone may have made decades ago, way before cell phones or NSA.

If you can go to prison its a criminal offense.
Now it is true that for a first offense it is effectively a misdemeanor; six months is under the one year felony line.
However, unlawful re-entry after being deported is a felony and yes, that first entry is a criminal offense.
And yes, evading entry restrictions by using other than a designated place, evading inspection (e.g. hiding in the trunk) or falsely representing who you are or the purpose of your entry into the United States all count in that first and criminal offense.

No, being fined does not relieve you of criminal penalties.
Section 1326 further elucidates enhanced penalties for re-entry under certain circumstances and limits the right to challenge the original (and subsequent) deportation.
By the way Section 1324(c) makes clear that making or distributing any false document, including covering up for a person who actually made or distributed same, in relationship to immigration gets five years in prison so yes, that is a felony too.
If you think this is unfair then change the law. But until you do it stands as law and that’s the beginning and end of it.

It would be interesting to explore the loopholes businesses use to get around the letter of the law when it comes to hiring illegals because it’s general knowledge that many do, particularly in certain industries.
One that comes to mind is the ‘to the best of their knowledge’ in assessing the authenticity of documentation provided. Fleshing the contours of that, and other nuances, out would be an interesting discussion.
Back when farm workers used my yard for an outhouse, it was easier. We (I worked beside them in the fields when young) were paid in cash, no questions asked.

And E-Verify isn’t all that accurate. During the Wuhan Flu E-Verify got almost a year behind. 2 years later when they caught up we’d have 30 temps come back unverified. We had to end all their assignments and boy were there some P.O.’d clients.
E-Verify does not talk with Social Security or IRS. It’s an island. We’ve had employees who were confirmed through E-Verify where we found other employees with the same identity. With demand down (because of the crap economy) that doesn’t happen a lot now. But I expect these “refugee visas” that Biden handed out like candy which were 1 or 2 year work permits those have been revoked. That is starting to have an effect now.
That’s why it got so bad. You had your Big Shots who wanted illegal immigration and we aren’t Big Shots.

There is no rush to arrest them now and throw businesses into immediate upheaval versus letting them transition over a few months and prosecute the worst and/or fine others later. A CEO who has been subject to a raid is unlikely cavalierly to just keep hiring illegals.

Your post caused me to re-up my bookmarks to check on all the agency and department shutdowns and RIF’s and firings of probationary employees that was a hot topic just a few weeks ago. There were a lot of seemingly mad employees protesting in front of locked doors, if memory serves.

Acosta’s Email Inbox had a “Data Gap” Covering Several Months
In conducting its review, OPR indicated it had access to more than 850,000 emails of the five prosecutors who were the subject of the review as well as six additional witnesses. But in an appendix to the report, OPR revealed there was an 11-month gap in Acosta’s incoming emails that coincided with the time frame of the Epstein investigation and negotiations over the deal.

Mass looting breaks out as LA riots intensify
Los Angeles police have said they are receiving reports of looting from business owners as videos emerged on social media showing a mass of people running into stores whose frontages had been broken open.
“Business owners are reporting stores are being looted in the area of 6th St. and Broadway,” Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Central Division posted to X. “Officers are en route to the location to investigate.” The area referred to is in Downtown L.A.
Police urged all businesses and residents “to report any vandalism, damage or looting to LAPD Central Division so that it can be documented by an official police report. Please photograph all vandalism and damage prior to clean up.”

When SF was being looted they said they were international gangs. This isn’t exuberance, Nancy, this is an industry. Back in the day the word would be put out that looters would be shot on sight and oddly enough, the looting stopped.
LA Mayor Karen Bass says the violence won’t end until federal law enforcement agents are withdrawn.
I say the violence will end when Karen Bass and Gavin Newsome are arrested and imprisoned for demanding violence continues in Los Angeles. They are both taking a pro-violence position against the enforcement of federal law and encouraging the mob to continue the violence.

Just noticed this NG detachment in Santa Ana and was trying to figure out what was on the roof of the Humvee on the right, perhaps a sound weapon of some sort?…. hard to tell what magazines are in their rifles too. Hope they have live rounds. If I can’t trust a soldier to carry with live rounds how could I trust them to use the weapon competently?

That’s a CROWS (Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station), perhaps there’s a non-lethal system it can partner with, usually you’re looking at 50 cals and AGL’s. Not quite riot-control weaponry!
I’ve remember hearing an interesting story about someone that figured out how to make a belt feeding setup out of a backpack in Afghanistan to feed his squad automatic weapon.
Pretty clever actually as it repurposed one of those belts used in the CROWS. Only problem is that that part was supposedly something in the order of several thousand dollars.

One must wonder if the IG was purposefully obfuscating the meaning of “prohibited access” from those investigating the Russia-collusion hoax. If not, he still holds responsibility for allowing the FBI to operate Sentinel without even the most basic of checks on internal controls.
