The child, Joshlin Smith, remains missing months after vanishing from the coastal town of Saldanha Bay, located approximately 120 miles from Cape Town.
Racquel “Kelly” Smith, the mother of the missing child, was arrested in March 2024 alongside her boyfriend, Jacquen Appollis, and a second man, Steveno van Rhyn.
The presiding judge, Nathan Erasmus, sentenced each of the defendants to 10 years for kidnapping and life imprisonment for human trafficking.
During the trial, multiple witnesses testified that Smith had spoken openly about selling her daughter to a traditional healer, known locally as a “sangoma,” who reportedly sought the child for her green eyes and light complexion.
Lourentia Lombaard, a neighbor, said Smith admitted after Joshlin’s disappearance, “I did something silly … I sold my child to a sangoma,” citing financial desperation as the motive.
During sentencing, Judge Erasmus said, “There is nothing I can find that is redeeming and deserving of a lesser sentence than the harshest I can impose.”
Joshlin disappeared in February 2024. At the time, Smith made public pleas for help and drew widespread sympathy as a search effort unfolded across the region.

My mind has been occupied of late with so many thoughts which are richocheting off one another in the chaos (all intentional) and from which there is no respite. I am in no way surprised by the revelation of an AI arms race having already begun. Just as I was not taken unawares by the documented fact that Covid was engineered long before its appearance, as well as the malignant agenda for which it was designed.
But here comes another one (or two) of those thoughts in an already crowded space…
I believe we are all desperate for that peace which passes all understanding. I know I am and recognize it is in the gift of Almighty God to grant it. The words of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn stick with me…
“It makes me happier and more secure to think that I do not have to plan and manage everything for myself, that I am only a sword made sharp to smite the unclean forces. Grant, oh Lord, that I may not break as I strike! Let me not fall from Thy hand!”
Wherever we are headed, or more likely the unfamiliar and probably malevolent place we are being led to, I remind myself that our Father is there before us. I find comfort in understanding it; and with knowing it comes a seed of the peace I am searching for. I speak for myself only.

For whatever “good” it might deliver or “good intentions” those involved in its development say they have, I am looking far enough ahead to see the potential for the worst depending on who controls it and its programming. Even Geoffrey Hinton, Nobel prize winning father of AI, recognizes the dangers.)
Just to say that as the battle rages between the prince of his world’s dominion and the heavenly realm of God’s eternal Kingdom, it is worth focusing on those things which we can control and, through prayer (as Solzhenitsyn recognized), a closer relationship with Abba Father Who has promised He will never forsake us.

When my mother-in-law was dying in 1985 and we went for a last good visit as she was hospitalized, she told me to go over to her house and help myself to any book(s) in her library that I would like. I saw Tozer’s The Knowledge of the Holy and gratefully took it home. It is literally within reach here as I type–endless repeat reading is not a waste of time.
A few years ago as I was preparing Christmas gifts for the family, I purchased a current edition of it and wrapped it for my granddaughter, who was about 22 years old at the time. When she opened it, she literally gasped and said, “Oh, Grandma! I’ve been wanting a copy of this SO bad!!” Wow.

And so whatever comes for my children and theirs, my precious grands, I have never prayed for smooth sailings (we all have dips in our roads, many too deep to climb out of by ourselves), but rather that in the trials they will face that they will feel the presence of the Lord Who walks with them every day, His will for them being purposeful.
I can only imagine your heart when your beloved granddaughter expressed her joy at the spiritual keepsake you gave to her. I, too, try to give gifts to my grands who are old enough to appreciate their meaning and which, as with your mother-in-law’s book, they will treasure for the rest of their lives.
And so I am grateful again for inspiring me to give the book which means so much to you and her to my first granddaughter to reach 18 next year. In the eyes of the law, “crypto” is barter. Albeit with a rather unusual “barter token.”
Now, there is nothing illegal about barter – as long as you do not represent it to be “legal tender.” (Or: “coin,” which it is not.) Some highly vertically-integrated industries routinely use barter among themselves to save money and simplify accounting. (The transactions are taxed at “cash equivalent.”) If you wish to trade among yourselves using something other than money, you are specifically entitled to do so – caveat emptor.
A “bitcoin” is not a “coin.” It is worth precisely what the other party says that it is worth to him. Unlike “legal tender,” you can refuse to accept it in payment of a debt. In my case, the “value” of that hard-to-compute number is exactly zero. If you want to “settle up” with me, you have to do it with cash. That is my prerogative as a creditor.
And, if someone steals or swindles your “bitcoin” away from you, you do not have the same legal options that you do if they had stolen cash.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced sweeping leadership changes Thursday as part of an effort to dramatically ramp up arrests of illegal migrants. New goals for deportations start at 3000 arrests per day at ‘bare minimum’ according to White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller and this will grow as the agency receives increased funding.
The change in quota is nearly double the 1800 arrests per day originally mandated [but how many acheived? – W] by the Trump Administration in January. If arrests remain static at 3000 per day, the new goal would result in over a million deportations of illegal immigrants per year.

As I have previously detailed here, a minor change to a few words or elimination of one paragraph in an existing US code which effectively prohibits employers from checking aliens’ IDs for fraud and/or actual enforcement of another would result in MASS self-deportations by eliminating job opportunities for illegals overnight…but that would destroy the economy, so they don’t do that. BTW, the person IDed in those codes as being the sole person responsible for identifying problems with and making corrective changes to those US Codes is the POTUS.

Alzheimer’s and dementia patients don’t do well when their environment is changed. I imagine the Secret Service and “Jill, PhD in education” have their work cut out for them. The changes cause stress and anxiety which lead to aggression. Then the normal progression of the ailment…

I’ve played to audiences in memory care facilities. The places were very tightly locked down and secured.
So the unfortunate souls who lived there were imprisoned for what they might do?
Sadly, many Alzheimer patients are prone to wandering away and/or easily getting lost, so it’s necessary to secure the facility to protect them.
I’ve also played in maximum security prison venues, and while the lockdowns in memory care are almost that tight, great pains are taken to prevent that kind of atmosphere and it was always clear to me that memory care patients are accorded much more freedom of movement and respect than are prisoners.
It’s still a very sad thing, though, and playing that kind of gig is a very bittersweet experience. It’s nothing like playing in lockup. It’s a sweet, caring and much safer environment.
It’s a very moving thing to be told by staff that it’s the only time they see ‘the lights come on’ for some patients. Music is a very powerful thing, and I play a lot of old stuff, which sometimes stimulates youthful memories, which are often where any surviving memory resides in Alzheimer patients. Music can be highly therapeutic for them.
Given some of the alternatives, those in well run memory care facilities are the fortunate ones. I’ve seen some heartbreaking cases of resentful and unqualified or overwhelmed and exhausted family members forced by circumstances into caring for patients without the means to obtain the professional care and support they all so desperately need. It majorly sucks.
Thanks for letting me vent on ya, Harrison. As you can tell, this is a subject that has touched me fairly deeply.
I feel great sadness and empathy for those affected by it, with the one exception being joe biden and his family. I believe they have exploited and continue to exploit his condition in totally sociopathic ways that have caused much harm and pain to us as Americans and which continue to cause damage to the nation and the world.

This is NOT personal Ma, but no matter how well meaning, I detest that logic – it’s the EXACT same thing that governments use as an excuse when they strip their citizens of their freedom and liberty. It’s also based on a concept that millions of Americans for years have uttered to excuse those same government actions, willing to trade one for the other.
In some states they can force people from their homes, sell off all their belongings for pennies on the dollar, and forcibly incarcerate them in a facility not only for exhibiting symptoms of dementia, but simply because they think it isn’t safe for them to live alone due to age or physical condition even when their minds function quite well. “You might fall. It’s for your safety.”
Too, for every one ‘well run facility’ there are a dozen or more run poorly and of those there are one or two in which what legally would be construed as abuse occur and others where what I would consider it abuse occur. Have seen horrific, soul wrenching things in some – facilities without heart or soul.
The oriental view of life, where families come together to personally care for their elderly is vastly superior in this regard.
Parents spend 18 or more years taking care of and raising their children – for years of that time seeing to their every need, as they are helpless. Those afflicted with alzheimers life spans are usually half that or less. Where is the reciprocity?
Too, there are communities – or what should be communities. Once upon a time people looked out for one another, cared for one another, helped one another, and loved one another. If Jill’s dad from down the street was wandering lost and a community member saw him, they would approach them and strike up a conversation and caringly guide them back home. People sometimes do as much for dogs – why not for fellow human beings? The same held true where neighbors looked out for one another’s children. Maybe it was different on military bases than the greater world – but based on conversations with others at various times I have the distinct impression it used to be like that in communities throughout our great nation.
At a very bare minimum why are they not large compounds covering acres of land, without forcibly locked building doors and a degree of freedom of movement and the ability to roam about in nature. When one looks at the hundreds of billions poured into other countries, into corruption, into government, and a litany of other money pits it is even more sickening.
Ultimately though it comes down to people, their hearts, and their views. For myself, would rather get lost in the woods filled with God’s awe inspiring works and pass, than to live for one week imprisoned without liberty.

In california I was fortunate enough to live next door to a family caring for the husband’s Mom, until her wandering became so dangerous and unpredictable they could no longer keep her safe. We’d take walks with her or return her home after she’d unexpectedly wander into our houses. Her son was eventually unable to care for her.
One of the care facilities near here sits on several well fenced acres, but as charming and attractive as it looks, I always shudder inside a little and wonder what the realities are behind those locked gates.
Living in Washington I know exactly what you mean about the medical police state. This state was ground zero for covid and led the nation in egregious civil rights violations and threats to freedom. A black media personality was convicted last week of faking a hate crime against Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade to gin up votes for him, with the ringleader Derrick Bernard testifying that Mobolade was in on the hoax, and the FBI testifying that the mayor misled agents about his contact with Bernard.
Mobolade, who is Nigerian, won the election as a left-leaning independent in the traditional Republican stronghold in 2023 after the n-word was scrawled on one of his campaign signs and a cross set ablaze in front of it. Video of the scene was sent to the media, resulting in a swell of sympathy.
At the five-day trial in federal court for Bernard and his wife, Ashley Blackcloud, that concluded May 23, FBI agent Ethan Doherty testified that the mayor falsely denied contact with Bernard, despite records showing the pair was in contact before, the day of the hate crime, and afterward. Doherty testified that when the FBI interviewed the mayor, Mobolade said he was “120% sure” he did not have a phone call with Bernard three days after the incident, and that Mobolade seemed “nervous,” according to KOAA. Doherty also revealed that Mobolade began using a new cell phone the day after the hoax.
The FBI’s courtroom testimony corroborated Daily Wire reporting from November 2024, which Mobolade denied at the time. Mobolade told the local paper that “politically motivated websites will weigh in with no regard for accuracy or truth,” and his deputy chief of staff told the city council the article was “unfounded.” He produced a video in response, saying “I did not lie to the FBI,” and claiming he had paperwork from the Department of Justice showing he was a victim.
But a Justice Department document produced at trial said that Mobolade was at one point under investigation, that the investigation was closed but could be reopened, and that its closure should not be considered an exoneration.
And all the affluent white liberal women swooned for Mobolade and rushed to vote for him–so many unfulfilled Mandingo fantasies –There are no Republican areas in Colorado anymore.
