Those who followed the first-term trade negotiations will likely remember the challenges of dealing with the European Union and their entrenched dependency on retaining the Marshall Plan system; a one-way tariff process that enabled Europe to rebuild after World War II.
Unfortunately, as with all long-term financial subsidies, the beneficiary becomes dependent and retaining benefit is their only objective.
Former Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross spent the majority of his time focused on trying to negotiate with the EU to remove these ridiculous trade benefits that have long exhausted their usefulness. Enough is enough.
Term-two Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has the same regional assignment formerly held by Wilbur Ross, with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer in full support.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has ASEAN nations as his primary regional focus, Lutnick’s primary region is the EU and President Trump is personally attentive to China and the USMCA. USTR Greer then goes to the primary with the closest deal under consideration and organizes the paper construct, the technical aspects. It’s an overall similar arrangement to term-1 only with a much bigger scope.
As would be expected from historic reference points in trying to break this insufferable one-way Marshall Plan system, the EU is once again operating in bad faith and will not give up their status. When President Trump says the entire reason for the EU to form was to ensure their retention of this Marshall Plan benefit, he’s not wrong. That’s the brutally honest background.
President Trump has announced today that a 50% tariff rate will be applied toward all EU imports until such a time as they come to the negotiation process willing to let go of their economic model dependent on the one-way benefit. There really is no other way to break the Gordian trade knot, other than to cut it – forcefully.
President Trump (via Truth Social) – “The European Union, which was formed for the primary purpose of taking advantage of the United States on TRADE, has been very difficult to deal with. Their powerful Trade Barriers, Vat Taxes, ridiculous Corporate Penalties, Non-Monetary Trade Barriers, Monetary Manipulations, unfair and unjustified lawsuits against Americans Companies, and more, have led to a Trade Deficit with the U.S. of more than $250,000,000 a year, a number which is totally unacceptable. Our discussions with them are going nowhere! Therefore, I am recommending a straight 50% Tariff on the European Union, starting on June 1, 2025. There is no Tariff if the product is built or manufactured in the United States. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
President Trump has other points of leverage and pressure that can be applied, including a U.S. withdrawal from NATO or a drawdown of U.S military presence, forcing the EU to spend more for their own security. However, the increasingly firm nudges from President Trump in that direction have resulted in EU words, not EU actions.
I fully support a more confrontational trade position from the USA toward the primary beneficiaries of these old trade systems, China, the EU and Canada. China is the biggest problem, but the EU dependency system is the most entrenched. Canada will be confronted when the USMCA is reopened for negotiation and two bilateral Free Trade Agreements are the likely outcome.
In addition to the Marshall Plan aspect, the EU is not going to give up their trade advantage position for the same reason Canada will not. In order to get to a place of free and reciprocal trade with both Canada and the EU both economic models need to give up their underlying “climate change” policies.
The financial benefits the EU and Canada receive via trade subsidies and one-way rules is the money that fundamentally underpins their ability to chase rainbow energy policy. If Canada and the EU had to finance their own “Green Energy” initiatives without the money gained from the U.S. trade imbalance, they would not be able to afford it. This is the core of the problem. It’s not just an entrenched unwillingness; there’s also an ideologically entrenched inability.
We have accepted and discussed this dynamic for years on these pages, and what we are going to see with the trade confrontation both in Canada and the EU is very predictable. Eventually, if the EU and Canada refuse to move, there is going to be a necessary cleaving; essentially a trade embargo blocking them from USA access….

Tariff these elites SOBs into submission, then extinction.
How about the trifecta…withdraw from NATO, withdraw our troops, and shyte can the UN…?
And 3 dem judges will say you can’t.
lol, they’ve shot themselves in the foot already just be blowing hot air
How about ignoring the 3 dem judges?
So? Whatever is ACTUALLY permitted will be. These judges need to be impeached. But we have to know their names before we can do that. Now we get to collect their names.
Impeachment!
I thought Congress passed something limiting the President from unilaterally withdrawing from NATO. I think President Auto Pen signed it.
Take away the funding.
Close or downgrade US bases…
starting with Mega-base being
built in Romania. Bring our troops
and resources back to US.
Right now is perfect opportunity.
There is justification to pull out
our resources from Europe.
We must protect our own 🇺🇸 country.
👍
Would be a hard sell for our “elected officials “
to argue otherwise.
turn European bases into WW2 museums with a few military personnel to keep things operational just to thwart the “you can’t close that down” shennanigans
Sounds like a plan..👍👍
Walk away completely.
Should have happened after the Berlin Wall came down.
Europe can and should defend itself.
NATO should have disbanded by 1992.
It was formed to defend against the USSR.
Last time I looked, the
USSR isn’t around anymore.
The Warsaw Pact isn’t around anymore either.
Neither should NATO be.
The MIC no likey.
Also pull the 2 fleets out gulf of Arabia and let them fend for themselves. Agree out of NATO and evict UN off US soil. Let them land with NATO.
Autopen has no constitutional authority. That Biden had no part in signing that can be proven and I support President Trump in exposing that fraud and pulling out of NATO. Let’s see Congress pass a bill with 2/3 vote that removes the Constitutional Commander in Chief role from the Article II POTUS.
There are A LOT of actions PDJT can unilaterally take regarding NATO that isn’t withdrawal.
Call me crazy, but Russia seems to be a natural Ally for traditional America.
Not crazy. Peace reigns if Russia becomes a member of NATO.
That makes absolutely no sense. Who would Russia be potentially defending against, and with whom? Russia is supposed to take over the Marshall Plan burden because we’re tired of it?
Get rid of NATO. It’s no longer relevant and its members are so stone broke they contribute nothing to it. I see no reason that we should deliberately hand off that mess on to Russia.
Does the NATO treaty specifically name, Russia as the purpose of its existence? I doubt that it does, probably only mentioning “adversaries” generically. And you are correct if Russia would be invited to join NATO, then it does defeat the entire original purpose of the organization.
But I think that’s exactly the point. Render it useless, thus reinforce the logic of eliminating it.
Although it could be potentially an alliance for the defense of member nations against a belligerent China.
Exactly what I was thinking thanks for pointing it out.
It makes sense from a stand point of war.
The Warsaw pact was dissolved on the promise NATO would not expand further eastward. NATO has continued to add countries right up to Russia’s border. Russia has a right to be afraid of NATO’s motives.
NATO says Russia wants to invade all of Europe. They still treat Russia like it’s the old Soviet Union. Putin’s been in power for a long time and has shown no inclination for invading Europe. Plus Putin has reinstated Christianity and has been restoring churches throughout Russia. That isn’t something communist dictators do.
Russia, for their part, wants assurances NATO won’t attack.
Making Russia a part of NATO gives both sides what they want. Putin won’t attack due to Article 5 and another NATO member won’t attack Russia due to Article 5. Peace reigns.
It has nothing to do with saddling Russia with a mess.
You do bring up a valid point about dissolving NATO but by keeping it and making Russia a member you also split them away from China’s orbit and a US /Russia alliance would keep China in check.
When I read these discussions I’m reminded of that U.S. tank recovery crew that recently died in a ‘training accident’ a brick throw from the Belorussian border and wonder to myself what we’d be doing if Russia and China had military bases on/near our Canadian and Mexican borders. We did do something when the Soviets parked some missiles in Cuba.
I think Putin has been incredibly measured. I’m no fan of his to be sure but glass houses and all we have little to feel superior about the way Zero and Brandon have conducted military operations around the planet.
As a disclaimer, I am of Russian ancestry and my grandparents escaped the Bolsheviks who were killing their neighbors and burning their farms in southern Russia at the close of WW1. My uncles went back to Europe to fight the Nazis alongside the Communists as soldiers in the U.S. Army. I can’t imagine what that was like for them.
Chinese Communism is the enemy IMO. It’s already here, inside our country, and for a long time. Where has American industry gone to? Certainly not Europe by any significant measure. China and India dominate.
I think PDJT should combine tariffs on the EU with a ‘reallocation of assets’ with regard to our military presence there and, as you posit, create a Russia/U.S. alliance that keeps China in check, not only here but around the planet. They are everywhere, never mind in outer space. Formidable.
Agree. Russia’s request to join NATO is what started the whole shebang in the early 90s; “we” replied with the Balkan war on Yugoslavia and Serbia.
As an aside, Judge Joe Brown explained how the first Gulf War kicked off, which became our continued meddling in the Mideast and the War on Terror; Saddam nationalized many industries, including President Bush’s Zapata Offshore Holdings Inc., an oil company that also had a large stake in Q8, the Kuwaiti state oil company, costing the Bushes a fortune.
(As well, Kuwait had originally been a part of Iraq until Admiral Churchill sent in the Royal Marines to create a puppet government supplying oil for the Royal Navy in 1922.)
the organization created to stop Russia [Soviet Union] joined by Russia
She was during our American Revolution, the war of 1812, and the Civil War…
and, most unfortunately, the USSR was during WWII, the war to save Stalin so Communists (the Left) and Trotskyites (the “Right”) could eventually take over the world under the globalist UN.
That is, the left wing and the right wing of the same vulture.
The euro currency was a neocon plot to turn Europe into a fake “United States of Europe”, that is, a soviet of socialist republics.
After all, the October Revolution that brought down Russia in 1917 came from New York banks, just as the funding for WW1 came from the creation of the Federal Reserve in 1913…
and WW1 gave us the Versailles treaty that created the BIS central banks,
with WW2 giving us the Bretton Woods treaty that reset the global financial system.
“Climate change” is supposed to lead to another financial Reset based on fiat ‘carbon credits’ and total property confiscation.
When it faltered, they switched us to “vaccine passports” as a base platform for biometric ID, ESG corporate control, and DEI social credit scoring.
Caution! Trump may have pulled the US out of the WHO and its Pandemic Protocol scheduled for May 2025, this month that is, just as he veto’d the TPP; however, the rest of the world (such as Starmer’s UK) is still participating in the Protocol and its global dictatorship.
(By Trotskyites as the “Right”, I mean the Trots who fled the USSR and came here to eventually become the “neocons”.)
I believe Russia is more aligned with
traditional America than the EU is.
Given a choice-I would choose Russia
over any EU country.
Especially France. After the opening
ceremony of Olympics…France fell
to the bottom of the cesspool for me.🤢
👍 💁♀️
what I been saying for years Trump and Putin should work something out
Not crazy at all…
Remington: Hat trick!
YES!!!
You really want Islam to overtake all of Europe?
It has already.
Wait, who was it that kept Europe’s borders wide open to massive influxes of Muslims from the African and Asian continents? It wasn’t the U.S.
No, it was the EU Marxists in Brussels and their sycophantic subjects in the capitals of every member country.
😃 Now it looks like EU is starting
to have problems with the Ukraine
refugees/migrants.🤣
Starmer 2 homes and car fire bombed
by Ukrainians.
Spain had ex Ukrainian official assassinated
at a school after he dropped off his daughters.
Incident in Germany recently by Ukrainians…
Germany spin it was Ukrainians working
for Russia.🙃🙃
I expect to see a rise in “Banderite “ type
movements in EU in the future.🤷♀️💁♀️
That’s actually pretty interesting. They’re reporting problems with Ukrainians. But not reporting problems with Muslims? Even though by now the Muslims probably outnumber the Ukrainians by 100 to 1.
Don’t be so sure it wasn’t the US.
After mucking up the rest of the free world funding color revolutions, terrorism and whatnot, the US “shadow” gubmint has now turned on the US and Russia. Conquering both are the last pieces of their one world globalist puzzle.
We just weren’t paying close attention until the mayhem visited our own shores.
I wouldn’t be at all surprised to discover that the worst of the worst actors from around the world sought safe haven within the USA after two world wars in order to continue their devious agenda. And here we are.
I’m sure the corrupt Deep State was in some ways complicit with the EU globalists actions, but remember that the City of London is the financial center for the West. All strategies go thru them. And they are definitely “masters” of the EU.
💁♀️ 🤷♀️ Part of the 7 countries in 5 years plan🤷♀️💁♀️
Destroy the countries.
Destroy all infrastructure needed
for basic necessities of life.
Self preservation —
refugees will migrate.
Has been happening since the
beginning of time ⌛️⏳⏰
Question is….
Cui Bono 🤔
Not the people of destroyed countries
Not EU citizens
Not American citizens
If they walled off all of Europe then the Muslims would still overtake them simply because the Muslims are out breeding Europeans. Plus, they are a preferred and protected group unlike the native population.
It is up to them to protect themselves or not.
We should also sanction the INDIVIDUALS that are leading the countries. Cut off all of THEIR money, seize THEIR assets, and let THEM suffer. And then tariff the new ruling body, if they are honest brokers, at a moderate rate.
IT IS TIME THE PERPETRATORS FEEL THE PAIN.
They can’t afford fair trade and keep their socialist system in place while allowing their unlimited immigration to continue. They are going bankrupt with their stupid net zero policies and they thought the US would finance it all.
Unfortunately the US Taxpayer DID finance it all. Via unfair trade practices AND USAID, etc…
Correct the US, with it you correct the World. Canada is praying for this mass correction so we can escape this tyrannical ideology. Bring on the pain!
Alberta is heavily taxed by the rest of canada to fund their socialist government. And to fund ‘climate change’ governance antithetical to Alberta’s natural resources. Alberta is already considering secession, having passed a law reducing from 20% to 10% the number of petitioners needed to gain a secession vote. Secession is legal in Canada, I think by majority vote. So Canada has to face potential loss of Alberta and the Alberta tax revenue, together with loss of tariff-favoritism.
https://justthenews.com/politics-policy/energy/canadas-energy-rich-province-signals-trump-its-ready-new-pipelines
Why is Alberta so different? Why not also take Vancouver w you?
I was surprised to learn The Crown (British monarchs?) still own 90% of Canadian lands?
The English were nasty little buggers weren’t they?
Were implies past tense.
They still are.
Topple the Crown
Free the World
Alberta is the oil producer.
I think Canada has special taxes for fossil fuel extraction etc …
Be like targeting TX and LA with taxes.
Alberta is mineral and oil rich. Their enterprises are taxed heavily to sustain the rest of canada. Alberta, Saskatchawan (and Yukon?) voted 65% for the ‘Conservative’ candidate. Alberta is more likely to secede. British Columbia including ‘liberal’ Vancouver voted with the rest of canada for the ‘liberal’ government. The US would not want the massively ‘liberal’ voters of the non-Alberta/Saskatchawan remaining parts of canada.
I’m not.
Good lord. You might be talking the Canadian Civil War.
Or, a Canadian Yugoslavia, if Quebec and the Northwest Nunavit jump in.
You are right. Too many internal contradictions in the EU and the only thing keeping those contradictions from tearing the EU apart is U.S. money. Shut off that access and the EU either collapses or very quickly engages in massive reforms. I think it most likely they do nothing and collapse. Reform goes against too much of what these EU elitist “leaders” and their most ardent supporters have believed in for far too long.
Europe is Socialist and Muslim. It is going to be a mess going forward. When President Trump shuts off the spigot, they will run out of other people’s money very quickly. It is going to be a mess.
Tery: Promise?
We should AGRESSIVELY court German machinists and related fields as they de-industrialize.
We should offer refugee status to any European, Brit, or Canadian who can prove that they have marketable skills and are being oppressed by their country/EU. Use this issue with the Afrikanners as a template.
??
That idea might be worth pursuing…it’s an interesting notion at the very least.
That is not very much an America First policy, what President Trump ran on.
Not our job to take anyone.
Train up American Citizens FIRST!
At present we have a shortage of medium level skilled workers and tradesmen; having very well vetted people like that could help to stop gap our shortages short term and help train future Americans long term.
And they’d be legal immigrants; there’s that.
I’m willing to entertain the notion due to those realities.
We can train up American Citizens for that work.
We have bailed out Europe forever.
They need to take care of their own problems.
The Immigrant Invasion almost guarantees collapse, as those groups start fighting over territory.
They all have supply lines and loyalties back to the mother country. Europe would be carved back into the hundreds of fiefdoms it was until the 1880s, combined with the Crusades.
And we were going down also with the Green New Scam and the Build Back Worse. We are still not out of the woods.
you nailed it!
That is so, so true, Sundance was brilliant to point that out.
They wouldn’t have the money to spend on luxury beliefs, boutique socialism, and corrupt politicians otherwise;
also, weakening their martial traditions and creating the Euro currency eroded the patriotism that comes with a nationalist identity.
Instead of citizen soldiers, they have dependent citizens.
And if they are “citizens of the world”, anybody else can crowd in and become a dependent as well!
You mean they are running out of other peoples money to spend? Hmm, interesting concept never heard of that before. Have to cogitate on that a bit.
Let’s be sure they bring their NATO obligations up to date too. I see no point in expending American blood and treasure defending European lands that even the Europeans have no intention of defending.
The EU Invaded Itself. So did the Coupist USSA.
NATO is as relevant as WW1 battleship, kept around to fight WW2.
We should have learned THAT lesson in Vietnam. We didn’t.
Its sort of ironic to think of Europe needing US $$$$ and military for economy and defense
when historically they were the interlopers all over the globe
and still take a huge cut of other nation’s income
I was in Antiga a few years ago and the residents of the major town (not much of one) were
so elated that Queen Elizabeth was paving the main road
I kid you not.
Antigua is one of the 15 Realms🤷♀️💁♀️
Canada is one of realms.
The list is an eye opener.😉
Commonwealth realm – Wikipedia
I’d just as soon let them go and let whatever happens next happen. Will the EU continue its intentional path of self-destruction knowing the USA will not go down with them?
The US and the EU and the UK have been on an orchestrated and intentional nose-dive culturally and economically. We all think we know why or what they have in mind. But the USA under Trump will have none of that. And if the USA is not part of the orchestrated crash of the first world nations, then the USA will exclusively be in charge of the world… well, Russia too — they are pretty “first world” too right?
There are reasons the schools around the world have been training their students to hate the USA or their whiteness or whatever else it takes. It’s all engineered to get people to vote and to advocate for their own destruction. Gays for Palestine? That never stops being funny.
And what happens when the next Democrat European-hating buffoon gets elected? Another invasion?
Notice how they lost their minds when President Trump saves 60 white South Africans?
Markets so far seem to believe Trump is bluffing. Barely moving. Let’s see what happens in a week when the EU ramps up the rhetoric expecting Trump to repeat his China truce. Something tells me those 50% will go into effect if only for a few days till the EU rushes back with new offers.
No offers.
Not promises.
Not in a week.
Not after deliberation.
Etched in granite signatures are require before the tariffs are “adjusted”.

Everyone sez gotta wait till the timing is right!

these countries cannot afford reciprocal tariffs.
I suspect they are just waiting until our corrupt

put an end to the tariffs

This is what I have thought all along. You SD are the first to have started documenting it and telling the world what PDJT is up to…. It has to be done but with clarity and diplomacy but it needs to be done…!
Tariff the EU at the same time UK?Russia talks are happening. Sounds like part of a peace plan.
Ukraine/Russia
I thought the British trade/tariffs deal was in the works or done?
Agreed to, details being hammered out.
Bring along South Korea and Vietnam.
The UK was in the process of a deal, but PM Starmer just made the UK a +1 in the EU. Therefore, he may have screwed up his deal with the U.S.
So much for bragging about being “the Trump whisperer”.
Can Starmer’s ploy be undone?
Should the US un-do the pending tariff agreement?
so, as the UK, German, and French economies –
most symbolic of the EU writ large – start collapsing,
however will they continue to subsidize their “migrant” populations with costly freebies?
might those populations express “displeasure” at being cut off?
were i a resident of Buckingham Palace, i think i’d man the arrowslits and the battlements post haste.
🏹 😂
The war against Russia will ramp up and the EU will blame the war not their fiscal mismanagement for the economic collapse.
That is pretty much the EU’s play. They want to divide Russia’s assets. Kaja Kallas, the EU’s foreign policy chief has said as much.
Russia will blast them (Ukraine or whomever) to smithereens if the UK continues to play that game
Martin Armstrong says the EU has got to seize Russia’s assets, because it’s already bankrupt.
Track back centuries and you are reliving the fall of the Roman Empire, and everything it entailed.

Fantastic news ! Even better would be to offer individual member states deals. That would quickly end the new Soviet Union. The EU has no redeeming value.
Beautiful. Brilliant. David, that’s the way out.
The EU must die so that Europe can live. Neocon NATO has taken over.
And nobody, but nobody, is better at making deals than our Historic President.
The EU (and the UK as a returning non voting member) is an authoritarian cabal of Marxists and ideologues all right…
With short memories.
Be it on their heads.

I always think of EU as a bright idea 💡 💡
that went dim really fast! 🤣
EU was always a sham.💁♀️🤷♀️
Heh! My bestie, a hyper-Nevertrumper with severe TDS, sent me a pic of “8647 Cleanser–eliminates orange residue”;
I am sending this right back to him!
How can this be your bestie? You don’t share common values and goals.
Bestie?
Bon Apetit, Eurotrash. And that goes for the roaches on top of the United Kaliphate as well.
the United Kaliphate!!
Europe gives away everything to their people for free on the backs of hard working US taxpayers.
And then they have the gall to lecture us about their free medical care etc.
Trump, on tariffs:
Global elitists, they don’t know who they a messing with.
now they’re messin with ……
Gonna be rough.
New Yorkers and Europeans have one main thing in common.
They think they’re special.
But they’re not.
And now, reality is knocking at the door for them both.
Lot’s of great people from and in New York! Maybe with some remedial education, you would be good enough to be a New Yorker? I understand you lashing out.
Donald Trump is a New Yorker, as are many who read and contribute here. Don’t even go there.
Well, SOME New Yorkers are special, VSGPDJT!!!
Personally, I’m glad Apple is moving iPhone assembly to India, less they bring it here and then tell Trump they need a bunch more high-tech Indian H1-B Visa for their new assembly US based plant. iPhone are used globally, and I’ll bet India can be made to eat the US bound iPhones 25% tariff.
I’m willing to pay more for an iPhone every 4-5 years than having a ton more of H1-B visas issued.
H1B visas are defacto age discrimination (Dr. Norman Matloff, University of California Davis).
I’m told Silicon Valley now is 75% foreign workers.
Fremont, CA was known for having a large Indian population. Then they discovered San Ramon, 30 minutes north, great schools and protected from the madness of Oakland (Detroit West). Now new 4,000 Square foot homes in the hills of next door Dublin are 98% Indian a d fetch about $3 Million for big homes on tiny lots.
We gave away a leading industry so Zuckerberg and Gates could make an extra $10 Billion each?
And you’re surprised?
Just gonna say “nope!”
Apple products are one of those things which people will pay for no matter what it costs. People are just stupid that way. Apple has the LEAST reason to worry about the cost of production.
The USA invented all of these technologies. They can be returned here. They just need more pressure and I don’t care right now how much the moan and groan about it.
We need our PEOPLE to catch up with the need for manufacturing.
Johnson needs to look inward. How much has been given to countries per those who hold the purse strings? Talk to DOGE. They know. Stop congress giving away all our money and even if it takes money to make money, President Trump will bring us to the plus side.
These tariffs are a lot like those imposed by our Washington, DC politicians toward those who come to them seeking “favors” whether it be passing bills they want or stopping such. The Biden Family knows all about this, as do the Clintons and most likely the Obamas. With USAID now being under a microscope, there needs to be found other ways for such “tariffs” to get paid. I call this behavior “gatekeepers” which some might look to “turnpike charges” as another example–our road, you pay to use it!
“It’s just business, nothing personal!” Don Corleone would understand…even with those judges in his pockets!
You’ll know the turning point when Trump starts saying “we know how to treat our enemies but how do you treat our allies when they behave like enemies?”
And that’s more than just trade. It’s also about the work foreign governments did to try to take Trump out as well. They can’t be allowed to get away with that.
The US has no allies, only parasites.
Anything will help. Would you rather have President Trump on your side or be against him?
It’s the Trump wolverines vs the EU sloths. The former is fearsome and dynamic, the latter is slow-moving and insufferably stolid!
Look at their faces! These are not innovators and none of them have ever run a business or grown their own food. They are bureaucrats, parasites, living off what others produce. Bureaucracy begets more bureaucracy and spreads, like that green slime that covers stagnant pools, killing everything but the mosquitoes!
Tax the hell of of them!
Your assertion is that the trade imbalance supports Green energy.
I’ve stated for years the trade and NATO imbalance supports European Socialism: 6-week vacations, token militaries, and universal health care.
– Our low-MPG, large vehicles don’t fit their ancient cities and costly petroleum
– I have to imagine our Big Ag would wipe out some of their small farms
– in 2019 we sold minimal amounts of pork there; we sell more pork – a multi-Billion market – to Chile!
– the MAHA movement may help push some of our ag products in this direction
– it seems to me Europe is in a free fall, esp given massive legal and illegal immigration, r*pe gangs, and low birth rates; 20,000 millionaires left the UK last year
cut the cord
Could someone summarize the main trade advantages that Europe currentlyhas vs the US? Numbers?
(This was probably presented here before, but I missed / don’t remember it.)
I wish he would have started with withdrawal from NATO (no advance announcement–just bring in the cardboard boxes and start cleaning out the offices and desks) and implemented a complete and total withdrawal of all of our military assets (give them a 12 hour advance notice on that one–we don’t want them going into terminal seizure).
Seems to me that if we are attacked by some massively equipped offensive force that really hates our guts, we can do a more effective job at defending ourselves close to home than dragging everything a bunch of thousands of miles and resetting everything to attack from that point.
My father fought in WW I.
It’s not 1914 any more.
Our military planners are apparently not aware of that.
We have 400 international military bases? Why???
MIC, imho
We honor him this weekend. Your post reminded me of the WW1 vets I grew up with as a kid. Great memories of their mentoring. My dad was WW2. You certainly have seen a lot in your long life. God bless.
Yes, times have changed. Oh, my, have they ever.
liquor, wine and brie?
any other valuable (to the US) products?
We have excellent brie right here. The french can stuff it!
What a LOVELY way to destroy the EU and drive countries to exit the EU!
There is a French jam that I really like. It was $3 before COVID, it’s $5 now. I guess it will go to $8 with the tariffs. Oh well. One jar lasts me a month so I can survive. LOL
French wine is on the high side of the market anyway. I’ll continue to drink California box wine. No loss.
If wanting some viticulture sticker shock, try Italian. Lately, it’s Chile and Argentina for me, internationally. I support local wineries first, and preferably small family owned ones.
In my business life I serviced the ag and wine industry in California, the cultivation and processing end of it. Grunt work that a machine shop does. It’s having some problems of late, I’ve read. There was a time when shops like mine made/repaired most of the equipment. Sadly, over time, that changed and equipment increasingly was imported. Customers would tell me why buy from me when they can get a container from China for less. Yup.
Guess what? The EU is primarily financed by import duties. So Aunty Ursula will have to take a pay cut.
That is probably the last bit of belt-tightening they would do.
Her husband was the medical director of a pharmaceutical company, Orgenesis, which specialized in guess what??
Cell and gene therapies.
Sound familiar?
He resigned ONLY after journalists did some digging and found this company had received EU research funds. There was quite a kerfuffle as I remember about the EU (for “EU”read von der Leyen) steering funds to her husband’s company during the Covid years.
(Try to hide your shocked faces.)
I don’t suppose the von der Leyens have run through all those Euros in three years…
She’ll be just fine.

Not surprised. Love of money is the root of all evil.
SPIT!!!
The problem will be if the markets go into convulsions like the first time, especially the bond market. If this happens again Trump may have to back down again – which is what the Euros are counting on. A dangerous game of chicken, with the middle class in the squish zone.
This will likely happen, but there may be some advantages to that.
Hooray President Trump!
Finally a president who stands for Americans.
Hooray!
While the tariff issues address the economic inequalities, I think Trump’s strategy has just as much to do with ending the war in Ukraine.
Coincidentally, Trump is implementing the 50% EU tariff just as Ukraine is ramping up drone attacks on regional Russian airports.
It is going both ways.
Russian and Ukraine 🤷♀️
Russia Vows Retaliation as Ukraine Intensifies Cross-Border Drone WarSouth Front
President Trump quickly backed off his high China tariffs when the markets were rattled.
Only for 90 days
POTUS TRUMP – short.
Selling our cars there, tough. Big cars, expensive gas, small cities. But they should buy lots of our ag products, and we need to adjust how we grow or raise certain crops / Meats.

As the individual European nations begin to feel the hurt of their domestic-based industries it seems that we will see nations individually and privately approaching the U.S. for trade deals outside of the European Union’s parameters.
If enough follow suit – slowly at first, then all at once – this could be the process needed to see the dismantling of that entire european union structure.
Then things will get very interesting.
Party’s over.
Got to wonder if the EU is blinded by their own arrogance. Living and traveling in Europe during the 1990s, really enjoyed the food and drink. Then coming back to the USA was kind of a bummer concerning food and drink. But now in 2025 you can get that made in America. 😉
pdjt must needs say what he intends to do just once. no need to threaten, cajole, arm wrestle etc. these commies. the deal is on the table. take it or leave it. otherwise 100% tariff.
PDJT uses bargaining chips to negotiate the terms he wants. He is not about absolutes and drawing lines in the sand. It is about the art of the deal all the way.
An enemy off balance is easily defeated.
The EU is under double pressure.
Their industries have moved GDP producing capabilities to both the US and China Inc. because of the socialist tendencies of their governments, harm their own as well as foreigners with taxes to support free stuff … now it’s free stuff for immigrants as well as free stuff for the native citizens.
European voters are not quite as dumb as US voters living in US Democrat bastions and states. In the US, Local and State Level Governments dominated by the democrat party have CUT BENEFITS and CUT WELFARE ENTITLEMENTS for US Citizens by diverting and reprogramming funds AWAY from US Citizens to Immigrants of ALL types. The media has helped cover-up the issue by blaming Federal Government Cuts, when it is State and Local Governments doing the cutting. US Citizens are too dumb to realize what is happening. While in the EU, Citizens are having fits over this across the EU and UK … and this issue is a major root cause of political problems v/v populist movements in the EU and UK.
The EU Government and their sycophant supporting governments may create to the “TOO BIG TO CHEAT” conundrum within member states. Whereby the fascists in Brussels can’t cheat their way to elections.
The 50% Tariff by the US, combined with similar actions and dumping by China Inc. are going to crush the EU between the US and China Inc.
Heck this may actually end the Ukraine Crisis as a Russian Trade Deal starts to look pretty good if President Trump does not beat them to the table. This will be fun to watch after ALL the crap the EU has shoveled at Russia, to include trying to remove President Putin.
Hmmm, yes that would be odd/ironic if the EU started wooing Russia, and vice versa of course.
Funny how grandchildren become so important when its spending money to renew the US but seem to be forgotten when we spend billons on other countries. What say you Johnson? I didn’t hear you crying as billions were sent to kill Russians and Ukrainians.
I think the funny part is they’ve been stealing our money to build their economies while refusing to fund their defense…
We’re about to find out what happens when socialism “runs out of other people’s money” as Maggie used to say.
…. or Runs out of their own money as is happening inside China Inc.
The system of government in the EU and China Inc. are not communist or socialist; they are Fascists. That is the great misunderstanding (and gaslighting that occurs) when discussing communist-socialist based societies. Communism and Socialism are socioeconomic systems and NOT the system governance. These socioeconomic systems require a fascist government to operate.
This is the reason; the media, academics, leaders who identify as “communist” and those who run the show in nations that identify as communists ONLY discuss the everything in terms of “communism the socioeconomic system” and NEVER discuss the form of government needed to make it work.
The warm reception that is often reserved for “Socialism” would not be so warm if the who story was told concerning the FORM of GOVERNMENT needed to make it work.
Good point.
Loved her!
I’m trying to think of the last thing I purchased from an EU country. I believe it was an item made in Germany that I bought last November.
Do they make anything over there that we can’t make here or get elsewhere besides things that brand snobs insist on like BMWs?
Germany makes, historically, excellent precision tools and instruments. I used a lot of German stuff in the shop over the decades.
Today, when I tinker with electronics as a retired old fart, Knipex tools and Rhode and Schwarz equipment loom large. Also, Fein, Festool and Wiha.
I don’t have the machine shop anymore but I do have a number of Bosch power tools out in the garage. I also have a ton of American made stuff, and American machine tools like Cincinnati, Bridgeport, Hardinge, Greaves, Southbend, etc, dominated the shop. I can’t deny, though, that Germans made, and likely still make, excellent machine tools, tooling and precision instruments.
Yup, and surprisingly France makes some great tools too.
Facom makes a variety of vise grips that are quite unique and useful.
Those guys in that picture look gloomy. Maybe some Coke would brighten them up. 😀
Contrast the quiet carefully reasoned answers Scott Bessent gives to the attacks by Democrat politicians in hearings and their insistence on getting the answers they have predetermined. It is high time that politicians get booted out – expelled – from hearing where they are so obnoxiously rude. They need a soccer system: a yellow card warning and then a red card excluding them from three games – hearings – and missing three votes.
EU can always start WW3 in retaliation.
Don’t even go there! Many old prophesies have Russia and Europe at it, with France bringing it out!
We should have left the China tariffs in place while we’re at it. They’re the last country we should be giving preferential treatment.
The rest of the EU countries will need to raise their retirement age to 70 (those born after Dec. 31, 1970) like Denmark to keep all of their socialist garbage afloat.
I thought the Marshall Plan was expiring in June/July — no?
I’ll need to get educated. I thought it expired a couple years before I was born. Maybe there’s another plan. I was thinking of the one at the end of the war.
