100% of state and local taxes should be able to be written off. All taxes sent to government in any form should be able to be written off. Having to pay taxes on taxes you are forced to hand over to government is simply wrong. I would throw mandatory fees in there too. What needs to be done is to audit these states and find out where the graft is as they cannot possibly need the amount of taxes they are collecting. NJ. And NY are about ten times what they are in mid west states.

The standard deduction [$30k for joint filers in 2025] covers all expenses listed on Schedule A – i.e. mortgage interest, state & local income and property taxes, medical expenses, et al. If the high-state/local taxpayers have $30k just for the state/local tax tax line on Schedule A and can then also deduct the other items on Schedule A, there is unequal treatment on taxpayers across the country, and the disparity is especially egregious on those that reside in lower cost states.

Did you see President Trump’s tweet today where he passed on a video that went through several of the deaths that surround Hillary and that are to her benefit? Maybe I shock easily but I was amazed he did that. To me it signals he’s kicking things up a notch. Maybe it had to do with the Supreme Court ruling about giving criminal illegals more notice/time or maybe the crap from crappy Comey. I don’t know, but I found it amazing that he passed on that video and on the day when he is basking in the Middle East trip and he had a new grandson. I think he also usually goes to Mar-a-Lago on the weekends and it seems he could have gone there from the Middle East to see the baby, but I think he went to ther White House, though I’m not sure of that. Don’t get wrong because I really liked that he did bring that video to everyone’s atention, but I was amazed.
Your idea is interesting. It seems possible that Putin and Trump would in some way look for common ground on how to solve the big issues that lead to all the choas and death, so I’d like to think you’re right.

A federal judge in New Mexico has dismissed the charges against dozens of illegal immigrants who were accused of violating security regulations by trespassing on a military zone along the U.S.–Mexico border, according to court documents filed this week.
Chief U.S. Magistrate Judge Gregory Wormuth ruled that the federal government had failed to demonstrate that the illegal immigrants knew they were entering the restricted New Mexico National Defense Area (NMNDA).
According to court filings dated May 14 and 15, the government argued that it had placed signs in both English and Spanish to declare that the area is a military zone and that any unauthorized entry is prohibited.
But Wormuth stated that this was insufficient to prove that the illegal immigrants knew they were violating security regulations when they entered the areas, as the defendants may have missed the signs.
“As the United States concedes, the NMNDA spans over 180 miles of ‘often difficult and mountainous terrain,’” the judge stated.
“The mere fact that some ‘signs’ were posted in the NMNDA provides no basis on which to conclude that the defendant could have seen, let alone did see, the signs.”

Taiwanese scientists conducted the study, drawing on a huge medical records database called TriNetX, which includes over 116 million American patients. They chose 1.16 million people who had received Covid jabs in 2022 and 2023 and matched them to an equal number who didn’t, making sure the two groups had essentially identical medical histories.
After a year, they found that the vaccinated group had almost 4,000 additional cases of hypothyroidism, or underactive thyroid, and about 100 additional cases of hyperthyroidism. They published the paper online in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism in late January, but it has received almost no attention. (Papers that find long-term problems with the mRNAs almost never do.)
The researchers also looked only at a subcategory of 900,000 people who had received just one Covid shot in a year, excluding anyone who had been revaccinated. That group was more likely to have problems after a year — a unsurprising finding, since people who developed problems after getting vaccinated would be less likely to get another.
In that subgroup, about twice as many mRNA-jabbed people received a diagnosis of an underactive thyroid a year later, and about 25 percent more received a diagnosis of an overactive thyroid.

So I read @DouthatNYT’s frightening talk with the AI researcher and I am more confused than ever. If we’re so close to superintelligence, why do AI’s results remain so weak/uncreative in writing – the field I know best? Are we really so close? Not trolling, very serious question.
These large language models are incapable of validating anything against reality. It follows that they can be made to support anything (kinda like college professors). They also have the moral sense of a 20-something Silicon Valley techie, i.e., no moral sense.
Similar to human beings – they are the product of their education and the information they are provided. The difference with humans is that human beings can use skills not available at this point to AI to discern the difference between truth and BS.
However, AI can be dumber than a box of rocks and still pose an existential threat to all we hold dear in their ability to process and collate vast oceans of data and extract requested bits of information – i.e. be the tools of a totalitarian state.
For the same reasons, they can be useful TOOLS to perform time consuming, low knowledge tasks of repetitive natures and as reference works when giving carefully curated data – instead of being fed oceans of junk data and trained for aiding evil.
And so, with the election of Joe Biden, the American people actually got “none of the above.” This is what the Robert Hur tapes evidence shows, in his interview with the non-President.
What was the result that can be learned from this episode? Entropy. The American country, absent a sentient president, began to decline into disorder. The government went crazy. The economy flickered at the abyss. The Democratic party of Biden became a Diddy Freak Out party. Dogs and cats, lived together. Laws were discarded helter skelter. Republicans lamented the approaching apocalypse.
Now that President Trump is safely in office, order is being brought from chaos. The effect is to turn a neglected woodlot into a well-tended garden. Progress is being made on all fronts. Peace is breaking out. Law and order is restored. Our experiment of self-government has once again proved a success.
The lesson to be learned is that our country cannot long endure without a real President to govern it. It seems obvious, but some formerly regarded very-smart people thought otherwise. We must mock them.

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker has issued a sweeping executive order barring state agencies from collecting or sharing autism-related data unless narrowly required by law, claiming the move protects the rights and privacy of individuals with autism.

He is attempting to look “Presidential” by “protecting” individual information and privacy.

Thinking about the whole Air Force One stuff again.
The rationale for taking the plane from Qatar is to have a backup should one of the old 747s now in use go offline for any reason. Right?
So why not just be prepared to use one of the **4** 757s currently used for Air Force 2? Sure, not as big and don’t have the range…but they ARE used as AF1 once in a while when a destination can’t accommodate a 747. And the flight range IS over 5000 NM.
