The University of Pennsylvania was found to have “violated Title IX by denying women equal opportunities by permitting males to compete in women’s intercollegiate athletics and to occupy women-only intimate facilities,” the Education Department’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) announced Monday.
The OCR said it will give the university 10 days to be in compliance with Title IX or risk facing a criminal referral to the Justice Department.
The OCR demanded that the school issue a statement on its intention to follow Title IX along with two other key actions.

The India-born Thanedar – a chemist and business owner – is now under fire over resurfaced allegations of animal abuse in connection with a bankrupt animal testing lab he owned and operated.
According to a 2018 Huffington Post report, approximately 170 dogs and monkeys had to be rescued in 2010 from an abandoned pharmaceutical testing lab owned by Thanedar – who had to shutter the New Jersey testing facility, AniClin Preclinical Services, after its Thanedar-owned parent company, Azopharma, went bankrupt in April 2010.
Three months after the bankruptcy, local animal rights activists learned that 118 beagles and dozens of monkeys were still stuck inside the facility, with lab workers allegedly jumping the bankrupt lab’s fences to provide food and water to the animals.
The situation was sickening according to local accounts.
“We believe that they have never been outside, ever,” said an unnamed woman in a video report by the Times Herald-Record. “I don’t think they’ve actually had their paws on the grass. When I walked in here it looked like they were walking on eggshells. They were kind of afraid to walk on the grass.”

Florida set to become second state to ban fluoride in public water
Lawmakers in Florida gave final passage to a bill banning fluoride in public water systems on Tuesday, with the state House voting 88 yay and 27 nay.
SB 700, also known as the Florida Farm Bill, doesn’t mention the word “fluoride,” but would effectively ban the chemical compound by preventing “the use of certain additives in a water system.” The bill now awaits Gov. Ron DeSantis’ signature.

Trump administration dismisses all authors of major climate report, throwing US assessment into limbo
The Trump administration has dismissed all the scientists and other authors working on the next authoritative look at how climate change is affecting the United States, according to an email sent to authors Monday and confirmed by CNN.
The move will allow the administration to either skip the congressionally mandated report altogether, or pursue an alternative, potentially far more skeptical take on what is otherwise widely accepted climate science.
Congress mandated these reports — conducted by a mix of federal and outside scientists under the US Global Change Research Program — be produced every four years. The next is due by 2027.
Before the dismissal of about 400 authors slated to work on the next iteration, NASA had already canceled a key contract with the consulting firm ICF to support the US Global Change Research Program, which produces the reports.
There is more than just the assessment process that may be modified, though, as the website for the Global Change Research Program states: “The operations and structure of the USGCRP are currently under review.”
