The U.S. Supreme Court will hear two cases today; scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. east coast time. Link to listen to the audio when it goes live:

There is also a possibility they will issue some rulings also around that time and a link to read those will be on that same site, under ‘Opinions.’
The first case is Martin vs United States. Petitioners are the innocent victims of a wrong house raid conducted by an FBI SWAT team in Atlanta, Georgia. They filed a lawsuit and a lower court said the claims were barred due to sovereign immunity granted most government action;
there are two questions before the court: the first, “whether the Constitution’s Supremacy Clause bars claims under the FTCA, a federal statute enacted by Congress when the negligent or wrongful acts of federal employees have some nexus with furthering federal policy and can be reasonably characterized as complying with the full range of federal law?”
the second question is “whether the FTCA’s discretionary function exception bars claims for torts arising from wrong-house raids and similar negligent or wrongful acts by federal employees?”
The second case is Laboratory Corp. of America vs Davis. This question is “whether a federal court may certify a class action when some of its embers lack any Article III standing?”
(I’m wondering – is the Supreme Court going to use that second lawsuit as a ramp to make a larger ruling on federal courts creating nation-wide class action lawsuits, ala these current anti-remove-the-illegal class action lawsuits various lower courts are creating? Is that why the Supreme Court is dragging its feet, to play cute with the powers of the Article II branch’s authorities to weaken the Executive branch and strengthen the Judicial branch with powers it does not possess? It’s just a theory given how I’ve seen in the past these courts live, and die, by creating precedents in previous lawsuit rulings to use in future moves and I have lost all trust in anything these courts do anymore so always wondering how they plan to usurp the will of the people.)
SCOTUS is an illegitimate US republic body if its sole function isn’t to adhere to and defend the constitution. Today, it is finding a way to avoid the constitution, which is a long term death of the republic.

There was one ruling issued today in a case called Advocate Christ Medical Center vs Kennedy.
It is a 7-2 ruling, opinion written by Barrett. It is about how calculations are done for providing hospitals with what is called ‘disproportionate share hospital (DSH)’ adjustments for the hospital when they treat a high percentage of low-income patients. There were about 200 hospitals that joined in the suit, wanting to obtain more money believing the way the govt. calculates how they get the extra payments was wrong.

Advocate Christ Medical Center is a hospital in the south suburbs of Chicago, a town called Oak Lawn (unless they have another one with that name). They are not a nice organization…I equate them with United Health Care.
Remember, no judge has any power unless someone with a gun enforces their ruling.

Southern California has its problems but compared to the crime rates and demographics in Georgia, Maryland, Illinois, Mississippi and Alabama California is paradise. Property taxes are capped based on the original cost of the house and 2% inflation and Social Security is not taxes. Even the state income tax isn’t too bad if you’re not in the high tax brackets.

While wage theft can affect anyone, my Denver Labor team has identified several industries with higher rates of minimum wage and wage theft violations. One is the construction industry.
City contractors and subcontractors involved in public construction work on behalf of the City and County of Denver must pay their workers at least the prevailing wage. This is a combination of an approved hourly wage rate and fringe benefits that is assigned based on the type of work being performed.
My analysts audit 100% of payrolls submitted by city contractors to ensure payment according to the law. In some instances, we also receive wage complaints that allow us to identify additional compliance issues and underpayments.
For example, recently, my team received a wage complaint because workers under a duct and coil cleaning services contract at the Denver International Airport were misclassified and paid at the common or general laborer rate. Upon our investigation, we confirmed the workers had been misclassified for more than a year and were significantly underpaid. The case closed with Denver Labor recovering $185,539.50 in restitution for 24 employees.
This is not an isolated case. In 2024, my staff helped 2,107 workers in public construction projects recover a total of $1,050,605 in Denver.

We might not agree or like his opinions, but in general he stands for what he believes is better for the country. His Dad did too. I have not read his thoughts on why he opposes the tariffs yet but he has always been willing to go alone on his actions. So be it.

I grew up south of Detroit. I have personally witnessed the destruction of the automotive industry moving south and out of country, plus the destruction that unions cause.. Through layoffs, and temporary shutdowns in July. I was a kid and I always asked my parents why everyone was leaving. I told my parents “they” were stupid to be moving out of the country and relying on other countries. We should be self sufficient. Again, I was a child and I thought this. As an adult, it infuriates me.

It is of interest that the media is using the performance (and impacts) on Retirement Instruments as the means sway public opinion against President Trump. Yet, my sympathy for those who have never paid attention to their Retirement Investments wore out LONG AGO.
I retired about 10 years ago and my retirement investments survived 3-major market crushing down turns among other economic issues. They survived because I learned enough to pay attention as well as identify the “SAFE POSITIONS” that I could ELECT in my savings plans, to at least protect my principle. The MAGA Right no longer admires Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett. Over the last few weeks, the Trump appointee sided with the liberal justices in crucial cases concerning the administration. In March, Barret, along with moderate chief justice John Roberts, ruled against the Trump administration’s attempt to defund USAID, the notoriously left-wing government agency. Last week, she sided with the liberal justices again over President Trump invoking the Alien Enemies Act to deport migrants. She’s also ruled against the Right on cases concerning January 6 and presidential immunity.
Some Trump supporters want to impeach her, a proposal with zero chance of happening, but one representing the base’s anger. ACB is now widely mocked by conservative pundits and right-wing shitposters alike. This contrasts sharply with how Barrett was treated by the Right when she was first nominated. Out of all of Trump’s nominees, she received the most glowing treatment from conservative media. Conservatives saw her as their own Ruth Bader Ginsburg. They overlooked her glaring flaws. First, Spain’s electrical grid has apparently suffered some sort of collapse. There is not, as I pen this, an explanation of what happened other than that it originated in their very-high-voltage transmission system, but there is a fundamental problem with nearly all “green” energy — it lacks a flywheel.
A steam generator is a flywheel — the turbine is very heavy and its spinning, so it has a lot of rotational momentum. This in turn means it resists rapidly changing speed; the stored energy in that flywheel is immense, so when there are momentary disruptions (e.g. a short, a very heavy but very short-term spike in demand, etc.) the flywheel contains enough energy, along with all the others, to prevent it from going seriously out-of-sync with everything else.
If the system goes out of synchronization protective relays open automatically because if they didn’t the consequence would be destruction of lots of very expensive equipment — and now you don’t have a blackout that can be picked back up as you have to replacement the equipment first (if you have it.)
Solar of course has no flywheel at all; the only option a solar system has when under excessive stress is to either disconnect or the electronics will be destroyed if it goes out of sync. Windmills have some, but they will trip as well as while they’re quite heavy they don’t have anywhere near the rotational momentum of a traditional steam-driven generator — and if they trip then their rotational momentum addition they do have is lost.
And just before it occurred most of their power was coming from no-flywheel sources — a risky bet that there will be no disruptions such as heavy loads or shorts, either of which can force a protective disconnect that then overloads the rest and causes a cascade failure — which is exactly what happened.
You can add flywheels, of course, to the system to replace that which used to be there inherently and are there if you run steam turbine generators, whether powered by coal, nuclear or natural gas — but since adding a powered flywheel with a motor/generator (so it can stabilize the grid) to make up for the lack of same produces no power and does consume some, they add quite a lot of cost and also add losses to the system as a whole.
We’ll see what we find out as to why Spain had this problem — but from what I can find thus far that’s almost-certainly what caused it.

In these works of popular nonfiction, Professor Allison “proves” that the only way for the United States and the People’s Republic to avoid a war is for America to accommodate China’s rise. To Allison, China’s rise to global dominance is inevitable and has already happened. America must work hard to prevent a war from taking place.
