A couple of comments regarding current administration policy approaches. to Deportation of illegal immigrants. Clearly it is what the American people voted for and I am in full agreement. Plus, starting with the most violent illegals is the proper PR move and has put the opposition in a particularly bad light and exposed the real problem on the judicial side. However, not sure the rounding up of all illegals is the best approach going forward. This will just waiste precious time for this administration and divert focus. With estimates up to 78 years or more to rid our country of all illegals, clearly a different approach will be needed. Is the President reluctant to pursue the business community approach enforcing verification of emmployee work status? I know the current administration is removing incenttives such as welfare and medicaid, but also need to remove the work incentive to really motivate self-deportation. Most illegals who are not criminals will simply remain in the US, work and know that it will take decades for the US governement to come knocking before any consequences will even matter and by that time, they will be established as good working “Americans.”

My son obliged his father and secured a useless degree. He really didn’t have a clue as to what he wanted. Joined the Navy where an aptitude test positioned him as a airplane mechanic, mechanics being something he was never exposed to anywhere and for which I had no idea he would show a talent. He was very good at it.
He saw the world…as per that old Navy slogan about enlisting…and when he returned to civilian life, by a quirk of fate (or most likely not), found himself employed by an HVAC company, an apprenticeship I suppose I could call it, while at night he attended night school to become certified.
He has gone from strength to strength, poached by a well known AC name, and is making an incredible salary doing something he is very good at and which he loves.
I often wonder if such classes had been available to him in his junior high and high school years whether he might have found his passion and not wasted time and money in a college.
How many young people who have neither inclination, ability, or funds to pursue further education and who fall through the cracks might discover a talent and interest for a lifelong skill which could provide a good living and a pride in self sufficiency, Sharon?

When I took Home Ec it was divided into a sewing semester and a cooking semester. I never turned into a seamstress though I guess I can do the basics, and my cooking, while not gourmet, is usually passable or better, and always needed.
But as I have assumed full obligation for running our household (my husband is quite elderly) REAL economics would have been by far the most useful. I wish I would have learned about the amortization schedule (and the huge effect of varying interest rates) before we bought a house, learned about the power of compound interest, investing, etc. while young. I have lumbered along in life seemingly learning everything the hard way – first hand.
Had I come along even a decade later I might have found the digitized world less intimidating and paperless organization a little more understandable. As it is, I have never deposited a check via text, posted an item for sale online, or used a cell phone payment system; I’m a definite outlier. And our family photos would be better sorted.

No, I don’t think it wasn’t suicide.
She wrote her post about not being suicidal back in 2019, right after Jeffrey Epstein’s extremely suspicious death and before the NY Maxwell trial, and before her case with Prince Andrew was settled.
Both of those things were over and done with, and she had already told investigators everything she knew, even spoken publicly about it.
There was no reason to try to harm her at this time.
I think this extremely troubled woman, who could not overcome trauma in her early life, deserves not to be remembered as a footnote in the theories still swirling around the Epstein saga, and I think the best way to end that is to just hand over everything the government has on that man, “national security” be damned.
We either have open government or we don’t, and anybody who had a hand in enabling someone like Epstein in ruining the life of Virginia Giuffre before it barely even started, needs to pay for it..

During the 17th and 18th centuries the Swiss Guards maintained a reputation for discipline and steadiness in both peacetime service and foreign campaigning. Their officers were all Swiss and their rate of pay was substantially higher than that of the regular French soldiers.[11]
The Guards were recruited from all Swiss cantons. The most famous episode in the history of the Swiss Guards was their defence of the Tuileries Palace in central Paris during the French Revolution. Of the nine hundred Swiss Guards defending the palace on 10 August 1792, about six hundred were killed during the fighting or massacred after they surrendered. One group of sixty Swiss were taken as prisoners to the Paris City Hall before being killed by the crowd there.[13]
An estimated one hundred and sixty more died in prison of their wounds, or were killed during the September Massacres that followed. Apart from less than a hundred Swiss who escaped from the Tuileries, some hidden by sympathetic Parisians, the only survivors of the regiment were a three-hundred-strong[14] detachment that had been sent to Normandy to escort grain convoys a few days before 10 August.[15]
The Swiss officers were mostly massacred, although Major Karl Josef von Bachmann, in command at the Tuileries, was formally tried and guillotined in September, still wearing his red uniform coat. Two Swiss officers, the captains Henri de Salis and Joseph Zimmermann survived, and went on to reach a senior rank under Napoleon and the Restoration.[15]
There appears to be no truth in the charge that Louis XVI caused the defeat and destruction of the Guards by ordering them to lay down their arms when they could still have held the Tuileries. Rather, the Swiss ran low on ammunition and were overwhelmed by superior numbers when fighting broke out spontaneously after the royal family were escorted from the palace to take refuge with the National Assembly. A note written by the King has survived that ordered the Swiss to retreat from the palace and return to their barracks, but they only did so after their position became untenable.[16]
The regimental standards were secretly buried by the adjutant shortly before the regiment was summoned to the Tuileries on the night of 8/9 August, indicating that he foresaw the likely end. They were discovered by a gardener and ceremoniously burned by the new Republican authorities on 14 August.[17] The barracks of the Guard at Courbevoie were stormed by the local National Guard and the few Swiss still on duty there were also killed.[15]
The heroic but futile[13] stand of the Swiss is commemorated by Bertel Thorvaldsen’s Lion Monument in Lucerne, dedicated in 1821, which shows a dying lion collapsed upon broken symbols of the French monarchy. An inscription on the monument lists the twenty-six Swiss officers who died on 10 August and 2–3 September 1792, and records that approximately 760 Swiss Guardsmen were killed on those days.[18]

In 2008, the Department of Homeland Security issued a rule requiring all states to conform to the unconstitutional federal law and issue REAL IDs for driver’s licenses and identification cards.
More than half of the states REFUSED this usurpation of states’ rights—25 states passed laws prohibiting compliance and 12 states passed resolutions opposing REAL ID. Federal deadline after deadline passed with little state compliance. In 2016, President Obama issued the “You can’t fly” lie. In 2017, U.S. Senator Rand Paul sponsored a bill to repeal REAL ID, but it did not advance (Senator Paul is now the chair of the U.S. Senate’s Homeland Security committee).

having meant to read more about Samuel Morse, that prompted me to go read the Wikipedia page about him –
did you know –
that in addition to being a painter and an inventor, Samuel Morse also wrote an article which appeared in the “New York Observer” in January-February (in parts) in 1834, titled:
“Foreign Conspiracy Against the Liberties of the United States: The [Brutus] Numbers … ”
The Wikipedia page says that it is in the public domain; I will endeavor to read it from the Wikipedia page or perhaps I can find it through newspapers.com and read it from the “New York Observer”.
Interesting also his changing views on Federalists (which his father had always supported) – if I understand correctly, Morse and others were looking with increasing suspicion at the Federalists, that they were actually in league with the British and using a powerful federal government that would ultimately thwart the ideals and purposes upon which the Founding Fathers based this new government.
