I find this a very difficult concept to comes to terms with. While I certainly agree that God can and will “blot out” our transgressions, I seem to feel that these are “sins” between Him and us – IE disobeying or going against His commandments. Let me put it another way – say somebody lies about you to your boss/company and you end up getting fired. This in turn leads to you losing your family, your livelihood, and next thing you’ve lost everything and are living in the street. Does it seem fair that the “liar” can just get off with a “sorry Jesus” if one day their conscience bothers them?? – and all the while your life (and family) is destroyed? Surely, and to my thinking/understanding ONLY once the perpetrator has made “repentance” to the one they hurt can forgiveness be considered – and by repentance I mean a serious effort to at least try to rectify and promise to God and the victim never to repeat said “sin”again. IE I plead guilty and humbly ask for mercy. There has to be a quid pro quo, it’s the law of the universe – a balance.
Forgiveness isn’t just for the sinner who repents and asks God to forgive him, promising to “go and sin no more”. Forgiveness is also a gift for the one who has been wronged. As a Christian, a sinner saved only by the grace of God and due to no merit of my own, I am to forgive those who have hurt me. I say it is a gift for the one who has been wronged because to carry unforgiveness in your heart causes you to feel anger and anxiety, possibly moving you to act in ways that would be sinful as well. Whereas to forgive someone is to let go and be at peace in your heart and mind. There is no way for you to know if the one who has wronged you has repented nor does your forgiving them depend on that, nor does your forgiving them mean you are condoning what they did to cause you pain and strife. Our relationship with God is a personal one-on-one, so if the other person remains unrepentant, his relationship with God will suffer. God wants us to make amends (Matthew 5:23-24) to those we have wronged. Forgiveness of our sins is one of the many merciful graces God bestows upon us, but our repentance must be heartfelt (God knows the heart, so we cannot fake it). As in Matthew, we must acknowledge the one we have wronged, apologize and make amends in some way, but it is not necessarily possible to undo any damage caused by what was done (as in your scenario), nor is it a requirement of God’s mercy that we do so. There is no “law of the universe”. There is only God’s Law for He is the creator of said universe. If you turn to God for help after you have been wronged and ask Him to help you forgive the person who hurt you, He will give you inner peace and He will guide you in the way of healing you and your circumstances. Oldspeak, I’d add to what Cheryl says above. Your act of forgiveness is not only asked, demanded by God who had every wrong against him and forgave, but it is something you can think of as paying it forward. Our forgiveness of those who trespass against us can often be the needed catalyst for the sinner to repent. Not just because they see your forgiveness, and are moved by it, but also because you give your participation in the supernatural grace of God at work in the world.
In doing this, the good God draws us all to himself, active members of the Body of Christ.
I have forgiven a family member who stole jewelry in excess of six figures from my home. I was trusting and left it in the back of the guest room closet. When they left I found the closet ransacked and everything open and the jewelry missing.
I asked about it and the response was they were looking for blankets.
Although I’ve forgiven the theft I can’t trust them to be guests in my home in the future.
I’m torn that I’ve lost family members although we still communicate.
Trust and forgiveness are two different things.
Lorraine – I can truly imagine your pain, as family members who break our trust hurt us the most. Trust will only be restored if they acknowledge the theft and the hurt it caused you, asking your forgiveness and attempting to make amends, hopefully by returning the jewelry. However, it will take time and prayer on your part, as a work of God will need to be done in your heart in terms of trusting again. They will also have to act in ways that show they are truly repentant and are worthy of regaining your trust. I hope all will one day be well and you are reunited in love and loyalty as a family.

You point out that forgiveness can take a while, and no one should be forced to hurry the process.
I also have wonded how Restitution fits in all of this.
Part of the act of contrition is paying restitution by the person comitting the sin against the victim of their behavior.
Restitution seems to be required but I am not clear on how much or when.
The scriptures do seem to say that we must forgive even in the sinner does not ask for forgiveness.
But I do not believe that we must act as if the sin had never been committed as some teach.

I expressed the need for the guilty party to admit what they’ve done rather than continue to be dishonest. I’d already forgiven them.
I do feel betrayed. The jewelry itself is incidental since I never wear it.
Ironically, I was keeping it for my granddaughters to inherit.
They are four young girls, my daughter’s are
6 and 7. My son has two, 7 and 9.
The necklaces, watches and rings were gifts to me from their late grandfather.
You are right, I’m hurt, disappointed and disillusioned about all of this.
Forgiveness is supposed to bring peace of heart but I feel sadness at the damage to our relationship.

Forgiveness is one thing and reconcilliation is another.
If you find out that close male relative who use to sit with your children has been convicted of cild sexual abuse and who has asked for forgiveness and has been given forgiveness wants to sit for your little ones again you would be crazy to let him do so.
You are also wise to be concerned about the behavior of the ones who stole from you, and quite possibly have little to nothing to do with them.
Using discretion to protect the innocent and vulnerable among us is important and we will be judged on how we care for and protect those who we are responsible for.
Allowing a child abuser to care for our children or allowing family to take our property that we need to care for our children and elderly parents is not something Christ wants us to sacrifice for.
We are told to turn the other cheek but we are also told to Stand For Righteousness.
Sometimes you can’t blame the parents for what the child does, if this is the situation.
Also….don’t leave any temptation out.

Well said, dear Anne . . . While, if asked, I’ll always speak about being a strong —though unchurched—believer. However, that said, once I explain how there are many different pathways to faith and how we can each experience Our Lord in so many unique ways, I don’t think I’ve been particularly successful at winning converts. So be it. 🙂
No, they’re talking to each other, just approaching the topic from different perspectives.
I’m thinking of the story in the gospels of the unjust servant, who owed a debt to his master that he could never repay, and faced the prospect of spending the rest of his life in debtor’s prison, having everything he owned taken away from him. The master had pity on him and showed him grace, something the unjust servant could not merit on his own.
Then, the servant goes off and encounters a fellow servant who owed him a trivial amount. Rather than taking a lesson from the forgiveness he’d been given, he has the fellow servant thrown into prison, showing no mercy. When the unjust servant’s master found out, he was filled with wrath and had the US (Unjust Servant) hauled before him. He reminded him of the astronomical sum he forgave and asked why the US could not in turn show mercy to the other servant, being owed such a relatively trivial debt, after himself being forgiven. The master had the unjust servant thrown into prison until he could repay what he owed – which is never. You can read the story in Matthew 18:21-35.
We forget that all sins (offenses) are ultimately against God himself, who demands that we be perfect, as He is perfect. And yet, we sin. But God, knowing that we could never satisfy the demands of divine justice, sent the second person of the Trinity, Jesus Christ, to pay the penalty for the sins we could never pay on our own. And that is the context in which Jesus tells us, in teaching us how to pray, “Forgive us our trespasses (debts) as we forgive those who trespass against us.” The wrongs others inflict on us are not trivial, especially when they’re occurring. But matched against the enormity of the forgiveness offered us in the death of Christ, the eternal Son himself allowing himself to be brutalized and nailed to a cross to pay for OUR sins, perspective demands that we be ready to hold out forgiveness for what others do to us.
No one said that it’s easy – it’s not. That’s why, as Cheryl and Menagerie indicated, we can ask the Lord for the strength to forgive and that very act of forgiving what sometimes seems unforgivable can be the restoring act for the one who trespasses against us. That doesn’t mean that we excuse the wrong done to us – sin is sin. There may be continuing repercussions for some wrongs done, and that person might still face the demands of temporal justice – that’s the insidious nature of sin. But in forgiving, we agree to forego bitterness and anger and we free ourselves, if we’re Christians, to continue to be molded into the image of Christ who, on the cross, being more unjustly wronged than any person has EVER been wronged, said “Father forgive them, they don’t realize what they’re doing.” (Luke 23:34)
Every sin incurs a debt against divine justice and God will demand an accounting for every one. And that accounting will result in either justice, in which the sinner must pay for his own sins through eternal separation from God in hell, or mercy and grace and an eternal home with the Lord for those who’ve accepted the offer of Jesus Christ to accept that He’s paid the penalty for us. There is no middle ground – none. So is it hard for me to sometimes forgive? Yes, I’m human! But I always have to come around and do it because I know I’ve been forgiven so much. My forgiveness, though, doesn’t automatically make the forgiven one trustworthy, as Lorraine indicated. We are not naive. But it does free my spirit up from the bitterness and rancor which can take hold in such situations.
I don’t know what this will do for you, Oldspeak, and I pray that your heart is opened to receive the forgiveness of God offered in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. But for my brothers and sisters out there reading this, I offer the following verse:
“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” – Phillipians 4:8
If we follow our brother Paul’s admonition, even when severely wronged, we will keep the wrong in perspective and at some point we will be able to forgive. And this is pleasing to God our Savior.

The pattern we follow is that of God Himself: Jesus did everything perfectly His entire life, and was tortured to death on our behalf. God the Father restrained Himself and did not wipe out the entire planet of sinful humans at the time, but instead allowed Jesus to suffer and die in our place. I am extremely grateful that my eternity does not depend upon my being treated fairly.
True repentance should never be a “I’m sorry that I feel bad” sort of thing.
God considers sin against another person to be a personal sin against Him also:
Numbers 5:5-7 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the children of Israel: ‘When a man or woman commits any sin that men commit in unfaithfulness against the Lord, and that person is guilty, then he shall confess the sin which he has committed. He shall make restitution for his trespass in full, plus one-fifth of it, and give it to the one he has wronged.”
Acts 9:3-5 As he journeyed he came near Damascus, and suddenly a light shone around him from heaven. Then he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?”

Matthew 5:23-24, 48 Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. To not be truly penitent is a sin, and God will address that. To not be forgiving is a sin also.

Remembering the old Dry Creek store on Mt. Bonnell. I moved to Austin for grad school in ’72. It was one of those life changing experiences that we can sometimes actually anticipate. Here I was at a world famous university, one of the very best in the entire world. And, against everything happening to me at that time, I felt like I was where I belonged. Soon, I found myself emersed in Austin’s now celebrated decidedly laid-back Texas university culture. I have to say, I fit right in.
One of my favorite places was this old store on Mount Bonnell. An old hippie favorite, it was well known for its cool upper deck which afforded a chance to view the wonderful Texas sunsets. You can fill in the rest of that movie scene all by yourself . . . 🙂

The notion of ‘Old Austin’ is a funny thing. For me, I picture the early aughts, when I moved here to attend college. Back then, the beers were still cheap, and the rent was still affordable. But others wax poetic on the cosmic cowboy era of the 1970s. And some go even further back, remembering the 1950s, when true hole-in-the-walls like Dry Creek Café and Boat Dock opened. I experienced that all-too-familiar sting of nostalgia when I heard that the beloved West Austin dive bar (est. 1953) would be closing for good at the end of the month. On Tuesday, a few of my friends and I went to give it a proper sendoff. Even after nearly seven decades in operation, the laid-back bar feels frozen in time. Here, you can’t use a credit card, and there are no QR codes to scan. You also won’t find any photo opps tailor-made for Instagram or TikTok. Instead, it’s just a chill, cash-only bar where you go to drink a longneck, eat a bag of chips, catch the sunset on the upper-deck patio, and select a tune or two for the jukebox. As we lose iconic establishments one by one in our ever-evolving city, we’ve all felt a twinge of sadness and a longing for what our town used to be. Luckily, people have a final chance to say goodbye to Dry Creek this weekend, which celebrates its last day on Oct. 31. Naturally, Halloween costumes are encouraged for all in attendance. After all, the bar stayed authentically weird until the very end.

Biography: Scott Joplin is known as the “King of Ragtime”, famous for such compositions like “The Maple Leaf Rag” and “The Entertainer”.
A travelling musician, Joplin was at the Chicago World Fair in 1893, where Ragtime became a national craze. He went on to publish his own Ragtime compositions before starting his own Opera Company and composing operas, self-publishing his ” Treemonisha” opera in 1911.
Joplin’s music was largely forgotten after his death in 1917 but rediscovered in the 1960s and 1970s. The film “The Sting” (1973) featured music inspired by Scott Joplin and Marvin Hamlisch won an Academy Award for his soundtrack. His version of the “The Entertainer” then became a top ten hit.

American physician and surgeon who pioneered blood plasma research and developed the blood bank concept, dies in a car crash at 45
Biography: Called the ‘Father of the Blood Bank’ Charles R. Drew pioneered research into the process of blood transfusion and developed techniques for blood storage, including large-scale blood banks.
In 1940 he was appointed head of the ‘Blood for Britain program to send blood plasma to Britain to tend the wounded during WWII. Later Drew was put in charge of a successful three-month trial program in New York that turned into a blueprint for the National Blood Donor Service.
As an African American Drew faced considerable racial prejudice throughout his career. Prejudice he publicly objected to and fought against. He protested at the Blood Bank’s initial refusal to accept blood from African American and later its policy of segregating that blood. His career was cut tragically short after he died in an car accident in 1950.

It’s available as a prescription drug and dietary supplement. DMSO is easily absorbed by the skin. It’s sometimes used to increase the body’s absorption of other medications. I don’t have the paid subscription to read the entire article, but it is a start.
I am not a doctor, but as a lay person with a chemistry background, DMSO makes more sense to me for topical applications.

Good morning Deplorable Infidel. My familiarity with DMSO was when my Vet used it on horses that had inflammation problems with joints. She also gave it internally in certain cases. It did a fair job when used properly, but stunk to high heaven when the horses sweat!

I intend on trying it for my post traumatic osteoarthritis (bilateral ankles), as well as bunions and hands.
About 2002 or 3, a friend gave me some shark cartilage to try. I probably did not take it long enough, but that product caused my urine to have a really foul oder, so I did not continue.
Glucosamine & chondrotin did not help when taking for about 6 months.
Probably due to losing much of the articular cartilage in the ankles that makes the synovial fluid which lubricates the joints.
I recently read that taking a hot bath with epsom salt and Borax added to the water will help take away chronic body pains.
I have both, but never heard of that combo. I have the Borax for a laundry booster and curing fish eggs for using as bait.
It has been some time, but over the years I have had to soak in a tub with HOT water to relieve overdoing it on my ankles. I am 6 ft tall, I would LOVE a huge long bathtub!

Many vets do swear by DMSO, and at our house, the humans use it pretty near every day for various and sundry issues. And…….woo doggies, that smell is quickly detectable on skin and breath: actually demonstrating how effective DMSO is at skin permeation.
There is copious information regarding DMSO and its effectiveness/safety etc. It really is a personal decision folks should make after doing their own research.

The most active Ingredients:
MSM, or methylsulfonylmethane, is an odorless, non toxic metabolite of DMSO that is responsible for the good things associated with DMSO, but it does not leave you smelling like dead fish. Allergy to sulfa drugs is not a contraindication to the use of MSM.
Arnica, an herb that has a long history of use for both acute injury and chronic pain. It is approved by the German Commission E for external use for these purposes. MSM and Arnica appear to be synergistic when used for pain control.

You can get arnica gel or cream at rite aid, or whole foods, or amazon. Gel absorbs better.

Good advice, ms Idaho. For some, myself included, the MSM just doesn’t work as well as the DMSO. Wish it did as that smell is vile! 🤮
Actually, adding arnica gel to the DMSO can be really effective for reducing pain.
One of the surgical practices I worked for put patients on arnica homeopathic pellets before and after surgery – also bromelain which is very good at reducing swelling and resolving bruising.
the specific lotion has additional helpful ingredients and essential oils – like peppermint

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.

Wind is calm enough here at my Indiana home that I’m burning a lot of cardboard and wood scraps off in my fire ring.
Took the dogs for a walk in the back field and then heading home approaching the big cotton wood in my back yard where I put out the critter feed, there was Rocky the fox squirrel at the bottom of the tree feeding and enjoying the sunshine. Buckley saw him but didn’t try to go after him. I just walked around far enough that the dogs couldn’t get close to him and ole Rocky didn’t move but just kept on feeding while keeping an eye on us. It really surprised me.

I did Rough Terrain parachute training. The padded suit helmet with cage and all. The suit has a seat harness built into it with two straps with D rings coming out at waist height in front.
You have a big zippered pocket on your left calf in which is a 100 ft. of 1″ tubular nylon with a carabiner tied on one end and one loose carabiner When you get hung up in a tree you pull the carabiner attached to the end of the tubular nylon out of the pocket and run it through the V the risers of the parachute form and hook it to itself. That’s your anchor point. Then you pull out the loose carabiner and clip it into the D rings attached to the suit and then run pull the rest of the 100 ft of tubular nylon out and let it stream out to the ground. You then run the tubular nylon through the carabiner rigging fro rappel. Holding the tubular nylon in the brake position you release the two quick releases that connect the risers to the parachute harness. Then you lower yourself down.
This short video shows a some of the procedure. Notice how there is a strap integrated into the suit which crosses the crotch to prevent a limb that one may straddle from smashing the family jewels. Rigging up and doing that stuff on a hot day is one sweaty miserable thing to do because that suit makes it hot as hell and your exerting yourself physically.
I should mention that rough terrain jumping isn’t just for places where there are trees. Being on a mountain team means you may well be jumping onto terrain even above the tree line where there is nothing but rock. Descent in a parachute is significantly higher in that thin air and thus you will hit the ground considerably harder than you will jumping onto a DZ that is dirt at say 1,000 ft above sea level.

Heavenly Father, thank You for bringing me through this day and Lord, forgive me for the times when I have wandered outside Your best will for me, instead of trusting You implicitly.
Thank You, that You are such a gracious Shepherd to me and that You come and rescue me even when I lose my way and stray from the path that You have laid out for me.
As I look back over today, I know Lord that there were things that I should have said and done differently, and times when I reacted in a manner that was not honouring Your holy name. Forgive me I pray, but thank You, Father, that You always faithfully prepared to gently bring me back to Yourself.
Give me a good night’s sleep I pray, knowing that there is no condemnation because I am in Christ, and may I wake up in the morning refreshed and ready to do Your will. In Jesus’ name I pray,

Heavenly Father, as I lie down to sleep tonight, I pray that You would guard my sleeping and protect my mind from wandering thoughts and unnecessary planning. Teach me to wait for Your perfect timing and not to try to plan my future in my own strength.
