There is a lot of speculation about the potential for President Trump to remove National Security Advisor Mike Waltz following the SignalGate fiasco. However, I doubt it will come soon.
Yes, CTH predicted in January that Waltz would be the first to get fired; but that prediction was due to the easily identified conflict between Waltz’s ideological mindset and his responsibility to execute a President Trump national security policy that is seemingly counter to Waltz’s worldview.
President Trump is unlikely to dismiss Waltz until some time has passed and his removal doesn’t look like a win for the media narrative operation. Currently the SignalGate issue is diminishing. However, watch what assignments Waltz is given – that’s where we will likely see a shift in responsibility.
I suspect Mike Waltz will no longer have a critical role in the Ukraine-v-Russia conflict that President Trump is trying to bring to an end. If Waltz has lost effectiveness or the trust of President Trump, his role as National Security Advisor will be visibly lessened. The influence of JD Vance, Marco Rubio and to a smaller extent Steve Witkoff will be more prominent.

The Nat Sec Advisor is a very powerful position, if used correctly. The absolute power of the President toward the intelligence community in the executive branch is carried by the Nat Sec Advisor (NSA). The NSA has the ability to reach into every silo and control every element of every decision therein.
The NSA organizes the finding memos which authorize all covert intelligence operations globally and domestically. The NSA can shut down bad things in the IC, cancel black-op operations, and essentially hold omnipotent power within the executive branch over every aspect of the 17 intelligence agencies who operate therein. The NSA can also determine what is, and what is not, a national security matter.
As a former House Intel Committee member, Mike Waltz comes from inside the IC machinery and there is a lot more to be concerned about than there is to be optimistic about.

(dod does not officially regard signal or any other app as appropriate even for base floor level comms..because it is not very easy to train face people with the best methods to lock it down. and besides, some of the code is “borrowed” from github and not secure in that view).
there is a series of steps to secure group chat with these apps and it’s non trivial to demonstrate that you actually have performed adequate stress and pen testing. Just clicking a few drops down is not enough.
likewise, you need authentic high level hackers to PROOF the comms FOR THAT SESSION is in fact demonstrated secure. Again, the emphasis here is that off the shelf code is not reliable or trusted.

When I set up a conference call, the participants are placed in each time and verified; they don’t just “sit there” in a ready-made chat group for weeks as Goldberg apparently did. Retired New Jersey Superior Court Judge Andrew Napolitano told Newsmax on Friday that British foreign intelligence agency MI6 might have been involved in the Signal imbroglio that has vexed the Trump administration.
“This has really produced an uproar in the intelligence community,” Napolitano said on “National Report.” “The Guardian of London says — are you ready for this? — it was MI-6. It was the British intelligence that doesn’t like Donald Trump that wanted to embarrass him.

The National Security Agency issued a special bulletin in February that warned that “Russian professional hacking groups are employing the ‘linked devices’ feature to spy on encrypted conversations.”
“The hacking groups,” the warning read, “embed malicious QR codes in phishing pages or conceal them in group invite links. After gaining access via the malicious code, the groups add their own devices as a linked device. This allows the group to view every message sent by the unwitting user in real time, bypassing the end-to-end encryption.”

That’s a great question. His appointment was a big disappointment to lots of us and it gave us a sinking feeling that we would see a repeat of Trump’s first term in office on the foreign policy front.
Last May, Trump was against bombing Yemen. He was correct when he told Tim Pool, “It’s crazy. You can solve problems over the telephone. Instead, they start dropping bombs. I see, recently, they’re dropping bombs all over Yemen. You don’t have to do that. You can talk in such a way where they respect you and they listen to you.” Trump added to this that he thought that the reflex to bomb reflected a “failed mentality”. Lots of people voted for Trump because of remarks like this.
Now, Trump is just continuing the Neocon policy of dropping bombs all over Yemen. The policy isn’t less crazy, so my guess is that the neocons Trump surrounded himself with go to him.

Now I’m convinced that whoever recommended him to Trump needs to be given a pat on the back and a “see you around the campus, but buzz off” parting goodbye and Waltz a “thanks for playing, enjoy your retirement” party.

I was astounded to find key decision makers having conversations using commercial off the shelf software. STUPID! Past time for DJT to have Musk develope a secure phone that uses Starlink. I can imagine a phone that has the owners bio markers hardwired into that one phone. In order for it to operate at all, the phone has to recognize the owner. That’s technology already exists and is in use. Built in GPS, standard stuff. End to end encryption, already exists. If a group chat is needed it is set up by the owner or a designated person. When the group is assembled each member will get a live feed of each members location (map view) and a live video of their face. Before the conversation starts an AI algorithm is triggered to validate each user. Of course a SKIF or other face-to-face is better but not always possible.
